Part 2

Anuj looks at Anupama holding Baa’s wrist firmly and is flabbergasted.

“Nehi Baa. Bohot hogaya!” Anupama leaves Baa’s wrist and walks in front of her.

Baa screams at Anupama, “Iss Anuj ke pyaar mein tu battameez hogayi!”

“Aur aap apne bete ke moh mein yeh bhul gai ki isne aapke saath kaisa suluk kia tha. Aapke muh pe darwaza bandh kia tha. Aapki bahu ne yeh ghar apne naam kar dia tha dhoke se. Tab kya aapka samaaj aapke saath khadha hua tha?” Pausing for a second, she continues, “Tab mein aapke saath khari hui thi. Aapko humesha samajhne ki koshish ki. Aapki 26 saal tak seva ki. Aapko apne khud ke maa se jyada pyaar dia. Aur aaj jab meri khushiyo ki baat aayi mein aapki kuch nehi lagti?” Anupamaa says in a high-pitched tone. She chuckles sarcastically and continues, “Jab parivaar ki baat aati hai, ghar ke kaam ki baat aati hai toh kaha hai Anupamaa, aur jab Anupamaa ke khushiyo ki baat aati hai tab kaun Anupamaa? Waah!” She slowly claps and mocks Baa.

“Mujhse---” Baa tries to interrupt but Anupamaa does not let her.

“Anupamaa, apni hadh mein raho.” Vanraj reminds Anupamaa.

“Hadh ki baat tum nahi karo toh accha hai Vanraj.” Anuj shuts him off.

“Tum---” Vanraj points finger at Anuj, but Anupamaa interrupts in a cold tone, “Sochna bhi mat.”

Anupamaa turns to Baa and continues, “Yeh samaaj tab kaha tha jab Rakhi ben ne yeh ghar harap li thi? Tab sirf aur sirf mere Anuj ne yeh ghar bachaya tha. Mukku ne Mishter Shah se partnership todh di thi, lekin mere Anuj ne Toshu ka bhavishya aur Kinjal ke hone wale bacche ke baare mein sochke Mukku se kaha Mishter Shah ko ek aur mauka dene ke liye.”

“Madat ki iska matlab yeh nahi hai ki tum log apni manmaani karte raho. Bhagwan kabhi maaf nahi karenge.” Baa yells at Anupamaa.

Anupamaa gazes Anuj and smiles. Breathing deeply, Anupamaa says while staring Anuj lovingly, “Kanha ji khud mere aur Anuj ke rishte ko aapna ashirwaad de chuke. Warna do baar ishara nehi dete.” She remembers the moments when Anuj accidentally dropped red colour on her forehead which filled her middle parting. Anuj smiles at her and gestures her to calm down.

Anupamaa sighs and looks in Baa’s eyes and says with sheer determination, “Anuj aur meri shaadi toh hogi. Mein ek beti, maa, daadi inn sab se pehle Anupamaa hu. Mein kisi ke liye bhi apni khushiyo se apna rishta nehi todhungi. Aur meri khushi, mera sukoon sab kuch Anuj se hai. 45 saal ki hu, mar nehi gai ki jeena chodh du. Sapne dekhna aur…” Anupamaa looks at Anuj, “…aur prem karna chodh du. Mein bhi insaan hu. Mujhe bhi taqleef hoti hai. Meine pehli shaadi mein dhoka khaya toh phir mein khud ko sazaa kyun du? Khud ko sazaa deke mein Anuj ko sazaa kyun du jinke paas mujhe dene ke liye sirf prem hai… humesha se.”

Baa shakes her head in disgust. “Toh phir aaj se yeh ghar aur main teri kuch nehi lagti.”

Dolly interrupts, “Mummy, last time aapne aur bhai ne bhabi ka apmaan kia tha tab pata hai na kya hua tha? Wahi galti mat kijiye. Maan chahie bhabi aur Anuj ji ke shaadi ke liye.”

“KABHI NAHI!” Baa screams.

Bapuji comes forward and warns Baa, “Toh phir Anupamaa aur Anuj ki shaadi tere bina hi hogi, Leela. Aur tu aisa kuch mat karna ki main phir se tujhse door ho jaun. Pichli baar laut ke aaya tha, iss bar nahi aaunga.” He becomes emotional, reflecting on the current situation. Baa is shocked.

Anupamaa holds Bapuji to console him. She then looks at Baa and says, “Mujhe humesha laga ki aap jaisi bhi hai meri maa hai. Aapke khilaaf mein kabhi kuch sun nehi sakti thi. Jab aapne Anuj ko apnaya tha tab sab se jyada khushi mujhe hui thi. Par aaj apne sabit kar dia kia aap sirf meri ex-saas hai. Woh saas jisse sirf apni bahu mein buraiyan dikhti hai chahe woh apna kalija kholke kyun na rakh de. Woh jo kabhi apni bahu ki maa na ban saki. Aur agar aisa hai toh ab se…” She pauses to gather all the strength she has, and says, “…Aap meri maa nehi hai.” Anupamaa’s eyes and tone seem devoid of emotions as if she has reached a saturation point and cannot tolerate her self-respect and happiness being destroyed anymore.

Anuj walks toward Anupamaa and intertwines his fingers with hers. Anupamaa seeks strength and courage from his touch. They walk toward Bapuji and take his blessing. Anupamaa says, “Bapuji mein janti hu aap mujhe iss ghar se vidaa karna chahte the. Lekin---”

Kinjal walks toward Bapuji, Anupamaa, and Anuj. She holds Anupamaa’s hands gently and says, “Mummy aap Anuj ji ke saath apne ghar jaiye. Main theek hu. Mujhe aapki zarurat padhegi toh main aapke paas aa jaungi. Par aap jaiye mummy. Main nahi chahti aap meri vajah se beriyo mein bandh jaaye.” Anupamaa cries as she feels heard and understood. Anuj places his arms around her shoulder and smiles at Kinjal.

Bapuji adds, smiling emotionally, “Haan beta tum dono apne ghar jao. Hum wahi aa jayenge shaadi ki taiyaariya karne ke liye.”

Samar, Dolly, Meenu come forward. Samar adds, “MaAn ki shaadi toh hogi. Zarur hogi. Aur hum bhi dekhenge koi kya kar sakta hai.” Samar glares at Vanraj, Baa, Kavya, and Toshu. He then looks at Anuj and hugs him and Anupamaa.

Anuj and Anupamaa walk to the door but before leaving, Anuj turns around and tells Baa confidently, “Ek baat kehna chahunga aapse Baa. Aap bohot unlucky hai… Meri Anu ki ahmiyat aap kabhi samajh nahi pai. Lekin jo bhi ho… Main aaj aapse yeh vaada karta hu ki meri Anu ko woh saari khushiyan milegi jo woh humesha se deserve karti hai. Jo khushi, pyaar, baraabari aur samman usse 26 saal tak iss ghar mein nahi mili, woh ab usse milegi. Aur woh apni khushiyan khud dhundegi, apni pehchaan khud banayegi independently jo aap sab ke opinions pe depend nahi karega.”

Anupamaa gazes Anuj in awe. Holding hands and intertwining their fingers with each other, they leave Shah house.

Anuj opens the door of his apartment and welcomes Anupamaa inside. Anupamaa walks in, exhausted and lost. Tears on her cheeks have dried. Anuj follows her to the living room and observes her body language and facial expressions.

Anupamaa sits on a dining chair and sobs silently. Anuj comes to her, and before he could say anything or bring a chair in front of her to sit down, Anupamaa embraces him by his waist tightly and cries louder. “Mein aapse bohot prem karti hu Anuj. Aapke bina reh nehi sakti. Mujhe yeh bhi pata hai ki Shah parivar mera mayka nehi mera sasural tha. Par itne saal uss ghar mein rahi, talaak ke baad bhi uss ghar mein rahi hu mein. 25 saal ka rishta todhna itna aasan nehi hei. Ek umar guzra uss ghar mein. Iss liye toh jab unhone mere charitre pe ungli uthaayi, phir Baa ne maafi mangi aur meine maaf bhi kar dia. Lekin maaf nahi karna chahie tha. Meine khud ko bezat hone dia, khud ko grant pe lene dia unhe. Aap sahi kehte the, itna accha hona acchi baat nehi hei.”

As Anupamaa pours her heart out, Anuj wraps his arms around her and silently weeps with her. After some time, he wipes off his tears, slides a chair in front of her and sits on it. Anuj cups Anupamaa’s face and wipes off her tears gently with his thumbs. Placing a kiss on her forehead, he tells her, “Khud ko dosh mat do Anu. Tum toh sirf sab se pyaar karna janti ho. Ab zindagi mein har cheez humare hisaab se nahi hoti Anu. Kanha ji jo karte hai soch samajh ke karte hai. Aur tum janti ho na ki main humesha… humesha tumhare saath hu.”

Anupamaa nods and a faint smile is visible on her lips. Anuj smiles looking at her. “Tumhe mere liye Baa aur Toshu se---”

“Humare liye!” Anupamaa corrects him, knowing how he may feel guilty about her argument with Baa. “Kyunki mein aapse prem karti hu. Aapke bina saas bhi nahi le paungi.”

Anuj becomes teary-eyed. Unable to hold his emotions, he wraps her in his arms, and she hugs him back. Few minutes later, they move apart.

“Bhookh lagi hai. Kuch hai khaane ko?” Anupamaa innocently asks Anuj.

“Haan hai main leke aata hu.” Anuj stands and walks to the kitchen. Suddenly, he turns to Anupamaa. A naughty smile graces his lips.

“Kya hua?” Anu asks confusedly.

“Ek baat puchni thi. Woh Holika Dehen ki raat jab maine bacche ki baat ki tab tumne kya socha tha?” Anuj teases Anupamaa.

Anupamaa is taken aback. She blushes but the next moment, she stands and walks near him. “Aap jo soch rahe hai mein wahi soch rahi thi.”

“Main kya soch raha tha?” Anuj teases her further but soon he becomes nervous as Anupamaa comes closer. “Bol du?” She whispers near his ears.

Anuj clears his throat. “Bol do!” He whispers too, unable to breath.

Suddenly, Anupamaa moves apart and chuckles, making Anuj cutely annoyed at her antics. He chases her and they childishly run around the living room. Soon they crash on the couch, exhausted. Anuj lands on top of Anupamaa. Gazing each other lovely, Anuj kisses her forehead. He slides next to her on the couch, and they cuddle, forgetting all the worldly problems.
