Will our reactions be still same had the story started differently?

This thought was going around my mind from yest so posting it here. It isn’t character analysis, it’s about us audience- Why are our reactions like this? Would it have been different if story had been told differently?

Whitewash of V- I am trying to understand why we all are so resistant to it and making every effort of makers to do that as futile🤔

I think it’s all makers fault. The 1st episode totally reminds me of the visual where villagers had tied bleating goat to lure the prowling tiger. Villagers are makers , goat is Anu and tiger is TRP audience, yes not V.

When they had launched the show, their quest was to attract audience and get attached to Anu. for that they had shown Anu as delicate flower and V as tyrant who crushed her under his feet with no remorse. So as they say first impression is last. Ppl loved Anu and hated V. They continued making this plant called “Hating V” grow into more strong, deep rooted tree with his narcissistic, chauvinistic and flip-flop nature.

Now when this is a full fledged tree, makers are overnight trying to fertilize it and make it bloom. It sure not gonna work.

I remember seeing the scene where A and V were going on a bike ride.

So on contrary to what they had shown in 1st episode, had they opened the show with this scene, will our reactions be still same? If they had shown them as a couple who grew apart and then he cheated and then turned egoistic or whatever he is now. Will we still be strongly opposing this whitewash ?

I don’t know how many of you would be interested in this topic but I wanted to add fodder to our thoughts from a different direction. I wanted to discuss US, the audience not characters and story so posting it. There are many more things I wanted to add but that’s all for now.

If the story was different, would our reactions be different? Yes my dear..it would be but we are talking about a hypothetical na..in that case, the very sketch and graph of Vanraj would be distinct. The reason to not cheer for him is not just the fact that he cheated..there are so many mainstream heroes who cheat on their spouse and yet we do forgive them like SRK in KANK...Vanraj was not just a bad husband..he was a sadistic husband. I still remember the episode where she had removed the mangalsutra after seeing him cheat and Baa points out and asks Vanraj to tie it again. He has this dirty smirk on his face despite knowing she is broken from the previous night..he dint have a cell in his body that carried remorse or guilt just coz she made it clear she will not wear his mangalsutra again and his reply was mein tumhara zidd aur tumhe thod dhoonga..On one instance, she got back home a little late from her maternal home and he shut the doors on her face after accusing her of sleepinh with someone (the visual of this scene has been repeated many times in the show).. all this coz she was half hr late. I can count many instances like this. Everytime he hurt Anu it left a scar of that wound with us too. This is why the viewers loathe him and hence the resistance to change. If he is consistent with this new skin, we might forgive him further down the show but do I accept him wholeheartedly in 3 episodes??NO!! He did the same thing to Kavya as well. If he had reasoned the divorce with both their mistakes, it would be a case of marraige where both tried to make each other happy but couldnt..we all saw the way he pinned every single blame on her and took pleasure in insulting her in front of the whole family. His core hasnt changed even a bit. For now, he is a catalyst in MaAn story and thats all he is to me. Sorry for the long post dear🙂

I second Sunny's thoughts here. It not just the few months as honestly I haven't seen those....if I just go last 3 months with Anuj in picture, still Vanraj was shown as male chauvinist, egoistic person.

Sunny has already highlighted few incidents. In my memory, his accusations which led to Anu leave Shah house was worse..

first bhumi pujan and then day, what right did he had then, they were divorced, He slept with Kavya for 9 years being married. Deep down, he knew Anu would never do that still he had the audacity to say.

He has never apologized properly so far. And now with Kavya we can see that he hasn't changed. This soft corner to Anu Anuj, definitely has some reason behind it.

All the bad deeds of years, one can repent but that repentance can be FF in few seconds. It needs to shown properly, which hasn't been done so far.

Yes when I used to catch a few episodes earlier by mistake, I thought it's about how a couple becomes parents before they can become family in arranged marriages in india, and over time they grow apart because of responsibility then the restrictions on women cause them to be left behind while the husband is so far ahead in his success that emotional distances creep in. The consequences is ema or atleast seperation with or w/o ema.

Now though going on different tangent. (I love it personally 😂)

The only thing that irritates me is no character growth for V... Only small glimpses of kindness (that's why I think the term white washing was coined.)

Great topic.

Thanks girls a lot for your thoughts. Reading through the posts itself makes V so cringey to the core 😬

I said earlier, I haven’t watched from beginning and even now in last 3 months also I skip through such cringe scenes. Shouting, yelling , character assassination just triggers my brain so strongly that I feel 🤯 it will explode. So mostly I stay away from it. Maybe that’s y this thought came up.

Right now, I feel I myself opened the gutter to suffocate myself. Ewww 🤢

sorry sister i have no energy as such to write now, i will do so tom,, but i concur with Sunny here.

I believe that people can change but that needs to be communicated properly with time so that we can digest it. So if at all he is changing we need to see more, much more before we can come to any conclusion.

Here its not that case even though at the moment V is bearable. I dont know what is his motive or why he is supporting Anu. I frankly have not given this a deep thought. I am looking at him from the perspective of a human lending a hand to another human momentarily without any thought of his motives. He has effected Anu for 26 years, hence him giving that last nudge will in a way solidify her thoughts. So I am ok. Plus its also a closure of sorts from his end.

If his arc was different with many shades, then i would have given some more thought...but he has been consistent in the fact that he is egoistic, sadist, loves himself beyond everyone, dominating, and a MALE C P....

So i dont give him any thoughts at all...I ignore him hence him hugging Anu does not matter to me as its not imp.

I always feel that in every story hero's greatness depends upon a strong villain.. And vanraj was always that.. I have cried with anupmaa in the first two episodes

.. Once I was talking to my niece and she said that "anuj itna popular isliye hai ki vanraj itna ganda hai"..

I think people would still love Anuj a lot irrespective of vanraj being good or bad.

Anuj's characteristic are very very different from the normal good guy next door or the typical male characters shown on TV.

His classy and dignified attitude, his unrequited love for Anu from past 26 years, he has an old world charm, and I suppose that's what makes people love him more.

I think yes, everyone would be kinder to Vanraj had he been a normal person and I feel like makers would have justified his actions at every turn. However if he had still cheated, I would not have any sympathy for him anyway. I feel like cheating is the boundary for me and it's just unacceptable. Esp on a spouse who you have 3 kids with. Even if he was a nice person, I'd hate him because he managed to hide that for 8 years.
