WOMEN IN ANUPAMAA

Indian soaps glorify female leads they say. I started watching this show as it appeared to be a tale tracing the journey of a woman from servitude to liberation.

The ensemble cast has been good and occasionally well crafted tracts making it a great show.

When I look at the way the creatives have made each character unique in their own way I'm look at the way the female characters are delineated.

ANUPAMA

The protagonist whose life journey is traced is naive, sentimental , and empathetic soul. She has allowed the family to trample on her based on the values she was raised. She was broken and not given even her rightful place as wife and mother by her family. She is blind in her love and respect for her family. A sacrificial lamb whose consciousness requires a wake up call every now and then. A selfless giver.

KAVYA

An educated well employed professional. Married to a fairly decent respectful soul whom she cheats on to carry on an EMA with her boss for almost a decade. She hoodwinks the family. She is manipulative has never done anything for anyone. Is obsessive at times and is the antithesis of Anupamaa. Is a dimwit at times and attention seeker at all times.

LEELA

A typical mean mother in law whose middle name should be control freak has double standards in all matters. Looks down on others and thinks she can get away with murder exploiting anupama. She does no good to others is rude, manipulative and loves her son blindly and can see no flaws of his and wants him to be centre of the universe for everyone. She is dictatorial, unreasonable, selfish and a bitter soul who thinks only of her and her sons needs.

KINJAL

Started off as a bright practical young girl. Born with a silver spoon used to a life of luxury. Craved for love and affection. She could the shah family charming yet noticed the way Anupama was treated and voiced her objection. A big supporter of Anupama in whom she found the care and attention she craved for. She refuses the job and wealth of her mom. Accepts and adapts herself into the Shah family. In this journey she seems to be losing out on her unique qualities.

NANDINI

A broken soul living on her own. Saw through the manipulative ways of her aunt and questioned her. Supported Anupama unconditionally.

Treated badly by Baa and her ladla. Found in Anupama the mother figure she craved. In her present state without Anupama will be I'll treated by Shah's.

PAKHI

The spolt brat in shah family. Acts like a typical teen very sensible and caring at times very selfish, rude and immature at others. Blinded by the love for her father who pampers her to a fault. After her estranged from mom track seems to appreciate the sma) l steps her mom is taking towards success.

DEVIKA

A Genuinely caring friend who stands up for her and helps her heal and move on. The first to alert about Vanya but be rebuked by Anupamaa. Fiercely independent go getter. Has been extremely nice to those she loves. Calls a spade a spade. Her candid outburst has never sat well with the shah's who consider her sensible questions as an affront to their authority And right to trample over Anupamaa. A friend wr all need in our life.

The Cupid in Maan.

RAKHEE DAVE

A modern version of Baa. A Vile manipulative woman whose defin8tion of women empowerment is yelling at her husband in front on an international gathering. A control freak who unnesarily intereferes in the affairs of the shah. Wants to humiliate and put them down at any cost. Can stoop to any level to have her way. Kept her husband away from their daughters wedding. Invited Kavya intead to ruin the function.

Diabolic in nature and thinks affluence gives her the right to humiliate others.

ANUPAMA S MOTHER

We have seen her few times. Anupama claims she has received more love from her in laws. She got Anupama married young lives a few streets away. Learnt of the EMA from others. Spoke sensibly questioning the shahs on how they treat Anupama and giving her pov on the role of a mother in law and pointing out how Leela was a failure.

DOLLY

Vanrajs sister. A successful working woman who though at times shows the shah streak seems to be a sensible woman supportive to Anupama.

SARALA AND OTHER FRIENDS OF BAA

Useless gossip mongers with archaic values. Think they are good only when they suppress and put down other women.

PRINCIPAL

a woman who faced difficulties stood up and moved on in life. Has cordial ties with Devika even after she divorced her brother.

Each woman is unique and adds to the flavour of the tale.

I feel for Nandini the most,she has suffered from childhood and still is.Her father left after her birth,so she never experienced father's love. Then the accident,then lost her love,now when she fell in love with Samar,objection,insult taunts and character questioning from Baa and her ladla

Whatever Anupama had to suffer before divorce was started from her late teens,and no sympathy for what all she is hearing after divorce because she chose it by her choice. But Nandini is suffering taunts from her birth,she still is and will also have to if Anupama does not come out of her Baa bhagwan hai Jaap and support her against Baa and also not teach Nandini to listen to Baa's taunts and be quiet like she has done for Kinjal .

absolutely agreed one difference between Anupama and Nandini is the unconditional support of Samar and her MIL ...Anupama.
