The problem is honestly not Vanraj's. Anupamaa is more at fault here.
There is a way each and every character can give a monologue on how hard their life has been.
- Leela is at a constant dilemma because most of her motivations are fueled by principles she learnt when she was young.
- Paritosh just wants peace of mind to be able to work at a job he could never have gotten by normal means but he did and now he wants to do justice to it, but is constantly disturbed by problems in his family.
- Pakhi is struggling with hormones, peer pressure and too many revelations that she is too young to handle.
- Kavya has struggled alone all her life and just wants love, she looked for it in Aniruddh but moved on to Vanraj when he got close to her in her vulnerability, and now all she wants is to settle down. She has no greed of any kind of property too.
There...
I gave a pitiful angle to each and every grey character in Anupamaa. But does that justify the wrong that they are doing?
In no bloody way!!!
So Vanraj's so-called pitiful monologue should also not sway anyone!!
Vanraj's mistakes may have been having an EMA or not being honest with Anupamaa.
But his deliberate evil acts were the constant belittling and chauvinistic taunts he made on her, his physical and mental harassment on her and using her as a punching bag for his other frustrations, that lowered her self esteem so much that she used to have panic attacks which she hid from the family up until the VanYa exposition.
The entire family was shocked at it, but viewers were not because they had seen her get those traumatic attacks twice before when she was kicked out of the house, both times by Vanraj.
Vanraj may have been unhappy with an incompatible Anupamaa, but did he ever bear it in silence? No!
He kept reminding her of it directly and indirectly and vented out all of his possible frustrations on her, so why is he justifying his affair as a way to make himself feel better after all his life struggle. Wasn't torturing Anupamaa all day enough??
After all this, if Anupamaa still sees the good in him and wants to give him a convenient closure at the cost of her son's happiness, it's Anupamaa's fault and no one else's.
