Annu Kapoor slapped a unit member of Kids' Antakshari, on being hit by the flying lid of a confetti can. Here's a blow-by-blow account

All was going on well on the sets of Kids' Antaakshri on STAR Plus at Filmcity until it was the time to celebrate. Says a source, "A production unit member opened a compressed confetti can and the lid burst open and flew straight towards host Annu Kapoor, hitting his arm." Queer as it may sound Annu Kapoor mistook it as some kind of bomb and reacted accordingly!

Adds the source, "Annu Kapoor thought it was some kind of a bomb which hit him and without batting an eyelid he went straight to the guy who had popped the lid and slapped him hard. This came as a complete shock to the unit member. In a fit of rage he almost headed to the workers' union leader to file a complaint against Annu." But the production heads and the producer of the show quickly intervened and saved an ugly confrontation.

Says Momita Basu, head of production operations, "Annuji, surprisingly, over-reacted saying he was very hurt and that his hand was swollen but we didn't see any injury. The production guys pleaded with the lightman and stopped him from registering a complaint with the union."

Says Prem Singh Thakur, the chairman of Majdur Union, "Had this matter reached us, I would have stopped the shoot immediately and Annu Kapoor ko baja dalte the."

The production team intervened to explain that it was just a celebration, nothing more. Confetti showers are done at every birthday party. Producer Gajendra Singh commented, "It might have been a spur of the moment reaction. It's quite amusing that a confetti shower should have evoked such a reaction from him…I am quite surprised!"

When contacted Annu Kapoor said, "The confetti blast hit me from a close range. 200 children and toddlers were there, it was dangerous. I had to go to the doctor as I had lost sensation for two days. I was scared that I may have been paralysed, but by the grace of God I'm fine."

But why did he have to hit him and react so violently? "I just yelled at him and pushed him, which was nothing compared to his mistake that could have harmed the children and their parents."

Adds the source, "Gajendra Singh was very upset with Annu Kapoor because he claimed that his hand was fractured even though it wasn't."
