Anita Hasanandani as Anahita comes across disinterested.
Saturday 11.00 pm, Colors

Anhoniyon Ka Andhera comes from producer Vikram Bhatt who has dealt with spirits, bhooth prth and pyaasi aatmas in his films before; now he unleashes them on us every weekend. Sadly, it's nothing we haven't seen before.

Anahita belongs to an upper middle-class family. She lives with her husband, mother-in-law and a maid. The house true to its title is perpetually dim-lit and everyone wears a morose expression. They go about their lives and lines almost indifferently till Anahita starts seeing a bloodied baldy with a scar on his face, two white marbles for eyes and a permanent scowl. He speaks in incomprehensible lingo (we are told later it's Malayalam, thank God it doesn't belong to any ara ra ra Gujarati or bhaisa bhabhisa Rajasthani, we are so sick and tired of) and is after poor Anahita's life. The mother-in-law meanwhile mumbles about some jaadu tona and kaali raat (it's during Diwali by the way) which has led to a series of mishaps - milk boiling over, her son getting an electric shock, lights going off (wonder what people who suffer load shedding would blame this on!) etc etc. We are then told that Anahita, by mistake, stepped her stilettos on some 'auspicious vada' (yeah, the edible variety) because of which one shaitani aatma has followed her home.

The family goes to some D'Silva, a silver-haired psycho (the clichd absent-minded mumbo jumbo type) who tries to offer a cure but gets killed in the process and so their tryst with the baldy aatma continues till viewers probably will get tired of.

Anita Hasanandani as Anahita comes across disinterested. The rest do not matter.

As for the 'horror' quotient, as we said earlier, it's nothing we haven't seen before (read doors that open and shut at will, a rocking chair etc). Besides, the story isn't engaging enough. Like after a point, you don't care if the aatma leaves Anahita or doesn't! By the way, must give it to the kaamwali bai, who is so loyal to the household that despite the aatma once entering her body, she still doesn't quit till the mother-in-law asks her to go!

Verdict: *

Switch off your lights at home and play planchette instead!
