[n]Update for Wednesday May 9, 2007
Dear Dasa, I am doing tonight's update. Yes, yes, I am in Singapore and we watch Anandham four days late, compared to folks in India. But you see, I got a phone call from a desparate Cheyar Ravi last night. He knows folks in this forum are upset with him and are telling him to jump into a ravine, etc. He told me that ACD's non-appearance over four consecutive episodes was due not to his being on vacation, his having taken time out to act in some other serial (maybe even a movie) or a slight indisposition (like hurting his big toe after dropping something that Shanthi had given him in that Prasadam scene, not after valiantly battling against some criminal). Instead, ACDs' non-appearance was due to feedback that Cheyar was getting about the direction that Anandham was taking. Cheyar was being criticized for losing his focus and taking the serial in all different directions, away from the RK family (even some members of this forum criticized Cheyar for this). So, Cheyar had to look for a plausible way of reintroducing ACD into the serial and establishing his relevance to the RK family other than as an AC who looks for missing or kidnapped family members. Cheyar also had to lay the groundwork for a reconciliation between ACD and Priya. So, he gave us a brief respite from ACD in order to prepare us for ACD in the real hero's role from tonight onwards. So here is tonight's update. From the horse's mouth.
ACD gets a call in his office from a tearful Karthik, who is trying to report Indu's disappearance. But Karthik is too emotional and incoherent. So, Priya grabs the phone and speaks in a very official manner. ACD's face brightens up at first when Priya picks up the phone. He gives that same killer smile. But later his demeanour becomes more serious when he realises Indu is missing. He assures Priya and Karthik that he will move mountains to find Indu (of course, our viewers will never believe ACD, given his track record of not even having moved molehills).
ACD hangs up the phone and puts on that famous furrowed brows look for exactly 60 seconds. Then, he barks some orders to the pot-bellied constables around him, fiddles with his laptop (maybe playing solitaire or freecell) and finally calls it a day and heads home.
When he arrives at home, he gets the shock of his life. Indu is comfortably seated in his hall, watching Kasturi on TV. Yes, you guessed it right. Indu has decided that ACD's s home would be the safest refuge for her from "murderer Karthik" and her "bad" mum Shanthi, who hid the truth from her (and who can only abhinayam pidi but can't act). Indu is also keen to stay with ACD because he indulgently gave her an extra helping of ghee when he appeared at her house while she was eating dosa one day. (Shanthi would have rationed the amount of ghee she ate as Indu is getting fat.) So, Indu pleads with ACD to let her stay with him.
Our hero, of course, says OK most willingly. He hasn't had anyone to chat with the past six months or so and he thinks he can now play badminton with Indu instead of JC. But he extracts a promise from her that she will continue going to school.
That night, after putting Indu to bed, ACD quietly calls Shanthi and reports that her daughter is well and staying with him. He suggests that Shanthi refrain from visiting Indu for some time while he tries to deal with her suspicions about and phobia for Karthik.
So, ACD now has become guardian and foster-father to Indu. He takes her to school daily and then gets home early from work in the evenings to cook junk food for her, which she is more than happy to consume. Cheyar at this point introduces a new character, a child psychiatrist, who works with Indu to address her fears. The part is played by Prathap Pothen, who was seen recently in the movie Raam, playing a pyschiatrist who is himself badly in need of a psychiatrist!
Meanwhile, Priya begins to have maternal stirrings. Remember that conversation she had with Shanthi a few episodes ago when she said that being with Indu was giving her a new sense of purpose in life? So, while ACD is at work, Priya steals into his house to check up on Indu. She brings along food, she cooks for Indu, cleans her book cupboard, etc. This becomes a daily routine in ACD's absence.
Of course, one fine day, ACD has to return home early to find Priya playing with Indu. And, naturally, Indu calls upon ACD to join them in the game. They are playing a game of catching or hide and seek, or whatever. It's got to be something that involves a lot of bodily contact. And, voila! ACD and Priya collide, they exchange shy glances and romance gradually blossoms. Dream sequences follow (Priya and ACD dancing on that same old beach, with Indu Satan occasionally appearing between them).
Meanwhile, Charu comes back from Malaysia. While in Malaysia, she had visited Marie France Bodyline and is now half her size and sexier. Back in Chennai, she goes to a granite factory in search of the best granite blocks for a new home she is building. There she finds a new safari-suit clad, wig-wearing man called Suresh. She thinks he looks suspiciously like SKPD but he denies it. Anyhow, Charu gets a crush on him as he is now a reformed man. For his part, Suresh (aka SKPD) looks at Charu with new lenses, now that she is slimmer and sexier. Soon, romance blooms between them.
ACD takes this opportunity to reveal the truth about Abhi, convinced that SKPD won't do her any harm now. Unfortunately, Abhi gets jealous of SKPD and Charu since they are more engrossed in each other and are neglecting their new-found daughter. So, Abhi's rage now turns from the RK family towards SKPD-Charu.
Finally, the RK family finds Anandham. And we, the viewers, find Anandham when in episode 700 Priya weds ACD, aged 60.
And now, please wait for the last word from Dasa. Cheers, Bonheur.
