Article:VOI is not a POP SHOW

The TRPs of Star Voice of India are quite low.. I don't think a difference of 0.5 per cent matters. Besides, we're in a separate league and our loyal viewers know that. Your take on other talent shows? I normally avoid talking about rival shows. But if you look care- fully it's only Voice of India which , is on the look-out for genuine play- back singers. The others resort to all kind of stunts to boost their TRPs. They create controversies, and pay more attention to the contestants' looks.. that's not us. So VOI's only conditions are good vocal skills? Of course.. this is a musical tal- ent show, not some pop event! Do you think the audience is quali- fied enough to choose a winner? Ultimately, it's the public who buys the CDs or cassettes released by a singer.. so it's best if they get to choose. Could you make a wild guess about who'll win VOI? Sorry that's out of the question. .. Apparently, the channel is not very pleased with you. That's news to me. All I can say is, I'm grateful to Star for giving me this platform. How about Antakshari? It's going great guns. The zonal and daily formats have clicked well. What about your anchors? Annu Kapoor is the soul of Antakshari.. he's been with it for so many years. As for Juhi Parmar, I think she and Annu are a perfect combination. Also, Juhi's knowl- edge of Hindi film songs is phe- nomenal. Aren't Antakshari's rules a bit too harsh considering your contestants are children? No. Annu and Juhi try to be as nice as possible but we can't change the show's basic format. So, what's next on television? I have some projects in mind. Let's see.. all in good time. Lastly, what do you think of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge? (Laughs) It's.. it's nice.
