Versatality is important for a singer as he/she can get a bigger audience and will last longer and will not be monotonous. It definatley requires a lot of skill and technique to be able to sing all types of songs.
Stereotype singers may be good but will not hold your interst for a longer time.I am sure a couple of big hits will be there but in my opinion I would any day go for a versatile singer. After all variety is the spice of life.
In previous competitions they use to have diff rounds of singing to prove there vesatality. Now all these vague guests visit the shows and these singers are made to sing songs catering to please the guests. How can we guage there singing skills if they do not sing diff types of songs.
I would def want a versatile singer who is melodious and sings in SUR to win and not the one who is popular or sings just sings one kind. I feel the finals shd only be by outside judges for there performance to be evaluated.

all rounder in singing as well as performance as we can see how much importance has been given to performance in this show....

going by the original concept...they should be able to sing all different genres of songs so that when they do get a chance to sing playback, they are well prepared....

this business of co-ordinating songs depending on the guest judge is just a waste of time coz sometimes 2-3 guest judges may be singing only one type of song...how can this be versatile?

versatility is lost cause today in any field.you have to find your niche, make an identity and stand out.

a child who is a straight A student throughout, great in all subjects..would still have to make a choice later, and then according to the market demands or personal interest, specialise more and more, and try to find a niche...

a small town might want a restaurant serving continental,chinese,mughalai..all in one! but in a city no one will go there-we dont want garam masala flavour in our chinese soup.

sunidhi, shreya, udit, sukhwinder, abhijeet, alka, sonu, shaan and others, barring very very few songs sing their own type of songs..there are so many voices to choose from, and no one has time to experiment..

sunidhi on an interview yesterday(aaj tak)said that she has sung over 2000 songs, but only in chameli did she get to sing all the songs! She feels so blessed to have sung "bhage re re mann"..but has she sung any more of those songs?..she is back on track with the crazy, beedi kind of songs.

i think in todays world except in gadgets and technology etc, versatlity is an overrated virtue.but wait!.. these gadgets too are made by super specialised people 😆

What is versatility? Md. Rafi and Asha Bhosle... 😳

Does it have a lot of significance in today's world? Probably not... Sunidhi to Shreya to Shaan to Kunal.. all have created a niche.. Sonu seems more versatile than the rest... 👏

I think more than versatility, what stands more important is originality... When one already has a Sunidhi or a Shreya, would you need a similar voice? I would rather hear Arshpreet or Abhaas who make the song different and add their own touch to the same.. 😊

Maybe Jack of all and master of One 😆 I dont see anyone be perfect in every type of songs, everyone has his area of stronghold and nothing wrong with that as long as you do well in that...

Extremely important, IMO.

A narrow genre singer can grow out of fashion very quickly. A versatile singer lasts longer. Countless examples exist - Shamshad Begum, Runa Laila, Anup Jalota etc. etc. As great as they were - their careers stopped prematurely!

But even more importantly, for a singer to be truly great, they should be able to a GOOD job on ANY song, in addition to a GREAT job on their speciality!!
