Firstly, thanks Vanaja to come back with the Reflections thread.. missed it last week 😳

I was out travelling for 2 days, and had just returned home when the show started yesterday and got 3 phone calls in between 😡 missed some of the performances😭 nevertheless, will comment on what I could see...

Sumitra - Is it the song that I dont like, and feel that however good the singer is - its wasting energy attempting that song; or was it that she did not sing well yet again?😕 She went flat in a couple of occassions (sorry, that may be wrong as the song itself is flat in many places)... Also, I felt that she was trying to hard to bring in that nasal tone to the song.. when she is not nasal at all... Probably that is something that will go against her, if we compare the same song rendered by Mauli (who is inherently nasal).. but - again if I could compare, I think technically Sumitra was definitely better... And I would still want to hear something else from her.. Eagerly awaiting 'Morni bagama' today (as Ankita said thats what she is singing today😊)

Irfaan - He did not go upto the level of Alvida or Guru... though he was again more or less technically correct with the song.. But missed I guess was the punch required at 'Roobarooo Roshani' and a little bindaas attitude.. he had that in his performance, but wish that had reflected more in his singing...

Abhilasha - Missed her performance😭 (So looking fwd to kuchh na kaho today 😳)

Ishmeet - Missed again!😕

Arshpreet - Just would catch the final few minutes of the song.. and I must say I was mighty impressed.😃.. Perfect on sur, taal, expressions and yet performing.. what a transformation from the shy Arshpreet we all knew... I think, her song selection was awesome and it just suited her a lot... Well done Arshpreet...👏

Toshi - Overhyped and overpraised? The feeling only syncs in deeper with every passing week... Yes, he was lot better than what Prashant attempted in II3 and Joy attempted in SRGMP, but he was never close to what Sharib did with this song... I would really want to hear something from Toshi where he gets out of the Sharib effect and tries to search his own originality

Prantika - This girl has an awesome voice, and I was really apprehensive of how she would perform with the club genre... She seemed visibly tensed to carry forward the performance burden on her shoulders, but am very happy that she did not let that reflect in her singing... I think, she really did well for a song not in her genre.. and is all ready to challenge the best and the favorites of the show👍🏼...

Prantik - Missed again!

Mirande - The call continued and missed this one too 😭

Harshid - I again felt the same thing that I had felt earlier.. perfect on sur, taal... but where are the expressions?🤔 And why does he have to look so serious while singing, esp when its a fun song? I am really waiting for one performance from Harshid where he really does justice to the amazing hold of sur and taal that he has.. the day he does that, it will really be tough to beat him!

Priyani - Did she seem more relaxed that Alka was not around? Perhaps.. Could she make more use of it in her singing? No! She was far better than Aanchal Khurana on this song, agreed... but as always, she lost sur, she went shrill on the higher notes.. and when everyone attempted songs from the club/disco genre; why was she given the leeway to stick to hre genre?😕 We will never know...

Abhaas - The best came at the end.👏.. He probably chose the worst song of all, and yet was the best with its rendition.😊.. Abhaas surely surely is a wonderkid of the show... It takes amazing credit from the singer, when he/she makes the viewer sit up and watch one of the most run-of-the-mill songs of today.. and Abhaas just did that...

Overall - quite a flashing start to the finals.👏. and looks very promising weeks ahead.😊.. Good to see that the Alka quitting drama has subsided and they have confirmed her joining back the show...

welcome back jaya.... i thought his was most enjoyable performance yesterday.... it was fun song and he was nt serious😕 in fact i thought that he and aabhas had real fun yesterday... and sang beautifully.... he even danced in Big B way😕

I enjoyed abhaas, mirande, harshid, prantika & Arshpreets performance

abhilasha, sumitra, toshi were good but not very good

irfan & ishmeet were average

I did not like prantik & priyani at all.

I liked toshi,arshpreet,priyani,harshit,abhas,mirande& prantika. The rest - abhilasha,sumitra,prantik,ishmeet,irfan...sounded quite ok,but not that good !

Abhilashas song did not appeal to me much but she was in sur and sang it well.She was very confident and did a good job.The sweetness and melody was missing I guess.Todays song I am sure will fill all the missing elements.But truly this girl can carry of all songs really well.She is truly gifted.

I am waiting for Vanajakshis input about Abhilasha.

This was a complete chat masala episode in short....the kind of zaayka you want when you go out on a walk and see a raod side pani-puri-phuchka-aloo chat- ragda pattis vendor....😆

Sumitra: Well, she actually got the ball rolling and set the tone of the evening. I will not go into technicalities here, because frankly, these kind of songs need more feel than technicality, and she had the whole atmosphere electrified. An absolutely thrilling performance. Having seen Mauli, I was a bit sceptical about her, but not only did she sing better than the original singer, she actually is now in a serious competition to be the next Maiyya girl !😆 Over all, a brilliant performance. 10/10

Irfaan: After Sumitra's scintillating number, his came a downer. He changed an inspiring song into a sad one......poor performance by any standards. The neighbourhood orchestra singers could have sung this better. 5/10

Abhilasha: This very talented girl was a total dissapointment today. Not only was her song selection wrong, she could not even bring the enthusiasm that could have lifted the song. The song, though by no means a great composition, has a kind of punch, which is almost violent. That was no where to be seen. 7/10

Ishmeet: He is better off crooning soft melodies.....total dud. 5/10

Arshpreet: This girl is a dark horse. Difficult to believe this girl was the same one who sang those beautiful soft numbers. This is a tough song, as many of it's lyrics have almost no music, just tuneful recitation, and she carried them with aplomb. She was the least likely candidate for such a racy and raunchy number. But boy! Did she surprise! The force, the quality of her voice, and the enjoyment which she sung it with.....it was awesome. And the cherry on the top being she has the best voice quality among the female contestants. She is one to watch out for. 10/10

Toshi: Not his best. Probably with him, the expectations refuse to come down. However, he has a unique quality - he can actually give shape to any composition just by singing it. He is effortless in his singing. Enjoyable performance, though there is still something which just stops it short of the top. 8.5/10

Prantika: A surprise. What makeover ! She looks uncertain, she sounds uncertain, is obviously painfully shy, but when she sings...my! It's as if it's someone else ! I thoroughly enjoyed her performance ! Rocking ! 9/10

Prantik: What is THIS guy doing in the final 12? Sorry if I offend any prantik fans, but this guy truly sets me off. He has no sur, no taal, no feel.....he got one of the better songs to sing, and he ruined it with flourish! No ratings for him, as I don't give ratings lower than 5......

Mirande: I like her singing....she performs like a pro, and has a special lilt to her voice. The way she sang 'Sajna ki vari vari', I felt like saying 'tujhpe main varu vari jaaun ri'....😆 Excellent performance!!! 10/10

Harshit: Hmnn....errr.....I am not sure...is it just me? I am even afraid to comment seeing the huge positive response this guy has....it makes me feel that my ears lack something which others have....😭....but this guy just does not work for me. He was good, no doubt, but it was not a setting a stage on fire kind of performance..I can't fault him on sur taal....he has a wonderful voice...but he is so dull! That is best I can say..there is something, something which is missing. I don't enjoy his songs, his singing, though he has the best voice among the male singers.

Priyani: She is actually turning out to be the female prantik.....I won't be surprised if she is the second one to go...first being prantik of course...😉😆. She sang it well, and she looks beautiful...so probably she is more eye candy than ear balm😉.......6/10

Aabhas: This guy is a wonder kid ! When he was singing, you could see and feel the fun he was having ! Sach me...suna jo tujhe yaar, dil me baji guitar !!! LOVED his performance. He gets a 10 not because he sang it perfectly, but because he literally made others dance to his tunes !! I would really like to see this guy grow very very big......

Overall, there could not have been a better start to the Bemisaal 12! What I liked best is that all the singers were made to sing songs from the same genre, or at least it's nearest family...and I hope to see this repeated when it comes to the heart of music - melody!

Vanaja, ur back and thnx for the analysis ... pretty much agree with most of what you have mentioned

unfortunately no IF for me on weekends 😭 so here's my 2 bits for friday's episode ...

its nice to see that almost everyone liked the epi and felt it was a good start to the bemisaal 12 ... but i somehow dont feel so ... maybe it was the choice of songs or i dont really know what ... but i didnt njoy it so much ...

now the singers -
Sumitra - i did like the song till the hype started ... now i dont ... and well comparisons will surely come up and i will not shy away from it ... sumitra is better technically no doubt, but still mauli came up trumps with this song ... its her voice i guess which suits this perfectly ... i wud definitely want sumitra to listen to mauli's rendition to see where she went wrong ... i also happened to hear mauli sing 'mast' on sat and again cudnt help compare ... she was much better than sumitra ... one more song that sumitra shud listen to and improve ...

Irfaan - definitely no Alvida or Tere Bina here ... it was more at his Ae Zindagi level ... lost both sur and taal ... but performance wise he is defnintely going up ...

Abhilasha - I kept saying No No No throughout the performance ... gosh i expect too much from this girl i guess ... wrong song ... ok performance ... very unclear lower notes ... wierd, not shrill, dont hv the right word, upper notes ... i hope she gets a better song next week ...

Ishmeet - he was not bad ... but he was slightly off sur throughout ...

Arshpreet - she was very good ... i liked her rendition and her new look's great too !

Toshi - cant help thinking of how well sharib sung this song ... and toshi disappointed yet again ...

Prantika - I must say i was surprised with this girl ... didnt expect her to sing so well at all ... she was very good ...

Prantik - No feel, lost sur at a couple of places, lost taal as well ... i like this song and he, well, i cud say almost killed it

Mirande - One of the two best performances of the evening ... she is also getting better ... but this song is from her fav genre ... waiting to hear sumthing different from her as well ...

Harshid - hmmm... expression ... but i dont think he was so lacking expression ... he did look like he was enjoying and thankfully did not sound like udit narayan presuming he was singing the newer version of the song ... though i wud rate him as after arshpreet and prantika in the list ...

Priyani - cudnt help thinking why is she here ... missing vipul/sanchari/arindam 😭
lost sur, taal, was she nervous again?? 😕

Abhaas - as jaya says, the best came at the end... his was the other best performance of the evening ... and yes he chose a lacklustre song and turned it into a master piece ... all the best to him and hope he goes a long long way !!!
