Just one judge - would that mitigate the risk? Not sure really... All depends on what is the judgement capability of the person... Imagine having Alisha as the only judge in Indian Idol, and we know without any contest who would have been the Idol this year,.. Doesnt that thought scare you? We have already seen the judgement from single judge in srgmp, where one singer with very less or no control on sur and taal got through to the finals just because she had more fans or she appeared more confident... Imagine having just one judge in VOI, where one contestant would probably get a perfect 10 even though she was not perfect and there were others better than her on that day....
I think - the chances of getting a wrong judgement is much much higher with a single judge.. Not everyone is a Asha Bhosle or Shiv Hari... I would rather live with a combination of judges who would mitigate the risks of extreme whims and fancies and 'dil ko chhuna'... Chances are that atleast one or some of them will give a musical judgement and that increases the chances of a more sensible decision...
