She's had enough!

Alka Yagnik quits Voice of India. She can't bear the unpleasantness and the 'chillum-chilli' that comes with being judge on a music reality show

Alka Yagnik
Alka Yagnik has decided to quit Voice of India to avoid the unpleasantness that comes with being a judge on a reality singing contest. She co-judged the show along with four other judges, Abhijit, Jatin Pandit, Lalit Pandit and Adesh Shrivastav.

A source says, "Aadesh, Jatin and Lalit were of the opinion that singers today do not have the range of yesteryear's maestros. This also mars music directors' creativity. Alka and Abhijeet however were of the opinion that the music directors today do not have the talent that the people in the golden era had. This led to an unpleasant debate. Alka felt that the music directors were being unfair."

An exasperated Alka says, "Unfortunate as it may be, I have decided to quit. There is too much heat there, the arguments and the noise only gets uglier. Everybody forever is trying to prove their point."

"I don't want to name any particular name but I have really had it. Healthy arguments are welcome but I feel people should not have crossed the line. People have started disrespecting each other. The friendships I have maintained over years are more important than a TV show and some money. Koi majburi nahin hai. I was excited about grooming new talent but this is too distasteful. I'd rather save my relationship with people rather than witnessing so much chillum-chilli," Alka adds.

How have the makers of the show taken to her decision to quit? She says, "I am quitting gracefully without any hard feelings. The makers are upset about it and have been requesting me not to do it but I must quit. In real life, I have been a fighter but this is something I can't handle."

The show will definitely miss Alka as she is the most popular judge on the show. "It's unfortunate as we had some talented contestants, but I cannot judge participants at the cost of my dignity," Alka says.

what a sensible decision 👏👏👏 i am glad she did so - these judges were getting so much intolerable... they have started personal fights and got so cheap... at least now they might realise... she puts it so well that the relations maintained over years r getting sour just due to these silly fights...

Good decision since Alka wants to maintain her years and years of friendships. Its the MDs (Aadesh, Jatin and Lalit) versus the singers (Abhijeet and Alka) on the show and also off. Too many controversies. Its really pathetic at times.

Does this mean the arguments and fights are not entirely scripted and there is some truth to what we see on the show? 😕

Will someone replace her?

this is unfortunate..she herself said a few days back that "main un sab par bhaari hoon"..it has to do with lathaji's presence in the show..it must be unnerving for her and she would not want to be in a position where there is even a chance of confrontation.

i read in a previous thread that lathaji will be the super judge and her decision will be final..this may be or become an uncomfortable position to be in..

this mahaguru business is not working..we have already witnessed it..iam sure alka has too..

i would say smart move alka 😊

The drama content has to definitely come down. Gajji please understand that people want to hear songs, not watch a drama.

On this report of Alka quitting the show, I think this is good for the show. With due respect to her, she was not at all a good judge. She showed it in SRGMP....she has this rather strange habit of giving harsh comments to female participants, especially if she sings songs of Kavita-ji or Sadhana Sargam. She brought her personal professional jealousy into judgment, and that was sad.

I would be more happy, if Aadesh is thrown out of the show. I am sure he was drunk in the Lucknow show. His eyes, and his behavior related that.

i would like to have 2 female and 3 male judges..srgmp doesnt have any..and alisha doesnt do II3any favours at all..

really disappointed that alka is leaving because she seemed comfortable in the mens company..and to be fair to her ,she doesnt have a problem with ALL the female contestants..i. last saturday, she was so thrilled with saptaparna and aditi..she is very fond of abhilasha we can see that..

to be very fair i didnt like priyanis 'na ja mere humdum"..and neither did the judges seem very enthusiastic..the stars of saturday were vipul, rahul, saptaprna and kaushik..

could have been some ego hastle

This is news to me... I have mixed reactions to this; Alka seemed biased at times esp to some female contestants, but overall she was at times the one who would try to contain the arguements between Abhijeet and Adesh... I actually agree to the statement she made, that its the lack of MD sensibilities that was taking the singer judges for a ride! This is not a good news for Abhijeet as well as he may be completely bossed by the other MDs on the show and we may see more nasty fights as a result...

I hope to see that someone does replace her, and actually like Ankita's suggestion that there can be 2 female judges on the show to strike a good balance.. Sadhana Sargam can be a good choice but she can really by dominated by the likes of Adesh and all... Kavita Krishnamurthy would be a great choice...
