The format of having auditions for so long (6 weeks, it seems) doesn't quite seem the right way to go. It would only tire people out, and if the singing is mediocre, as would be expected in auditions, then people aren't going to stick around. Yes - it may improve after the final 32 are chosen, but who has the patience to stick around for that long?
I would have felt the same way about Zee had SRGMP's auditions gone on for so long. In fact, on SRGMP, many people can't remember contestants who were introduced 2 weeks ago. So do you expect people to actually remember SVOI contestants who auditioned in the first episode, when they are re-introduced in the main round 6 weeks from now??
Some of you argue that holding auditions would help viewers identify with and get familiar with contestants, but don't stretch them so much that people end up forgetting the contestants. Let's not forget that there will be 64 contestants who audition and 32 who are selected - a very much overcrowded field compared to SRGMP, who have 24 contestants, all of whom were introduced in 2 episodes.
I think Gajji is still stuck in the C2005 mode, where we had a similar (but still less exhaustive) introductory round. I know it worked in C2005, but even C2005 didn't enjoy good TRPs initially. Also, there was no like-for-like competition for it on TV at the time. Here, SVOI comes in when we already have 2 talent hunt shows on air. Zee adapted to the realities and decided to cut out their audition and initial elimination rounds, moving straight into the business end of things. Gajji, unfortunately, has been slow to realize and adapt. By the time SVOI moves into the main event, SRGMP will have gathered too much momentum, and it will be hard to displace it.
