The format of having auditions for so long (6 weeks, it seems) doesn't quite seem the right way to go. It would only tire people out, and if the singing is mediocre, as would be expected in auditions, then people aren't going to stick around. Yes - it may improve after the final 32 are chosen, but who has the patience to stick around for that long?

I would have felt the same way about Zee had SRGMP's auditions gone on for so long. In fact, on SRGMP, many people can't remember contestants who were introduced 2 weeks ago. So do you expect people to actually remember SVOI contestants who auditioned in the first episode, when they are re-introduced in the main round 6 weeks from now??

Some of you argue that holding auditions would help viewers identify with and get familiar with contestants, but don't stretch them so much that people end up forgetting the contestants. Let's not forget that there will be 64 contestants who audition and 32 who are selected - a very much overcrowded field compared to SRGMP, who have 24 contestants, all of whom were introduced in 2 episodes.

I think Gajji is still stuck in the C2005 mode, where we had a similar (but still less exhaustive) introductory round. I know it worked in C2005, but even C2005 didn't enjoy good TRPs initially. Also, there was no like-for-like competition for it on TV at the time. Here, SVOI comes in when we already have 2 talent hunt shows on air. Zee adapted to the realities and decided to cut out their audition and initial elimination rounds, moving straight into the business end of things. Gajji, unfortunately, has been slow to realize and adapt. By the time SVOI moves into the main event, SRGMP will have gathered too much momentum, and it will be hard to displace it.

I agree to you Shady.. Its really stretched.. I wouldnt have minded the samething if they had one city audition per day.. Showing two days audition in the same city stretching to a 6 weeks audition will make the show unpopular.. The time they actually reach the contest, the other competitive shows might be reaching the final rounds.. Im quite expecting SRGMP to be in Brahmastra round that time.. And II3 has already started its voting.. So, not quite sure how popular VOI can be.. 😕

If we calculate -

6 weeks of audition - so, say during June end they finish with auditions
then we get 6*6 = 36 contestants.. Then hows the format going to be?? If we keep it to be 2 eliminations per week until we get 10 contestants for finals - we say - 8 weeks of elimination by judges.. then another 10 to 12 weeks of show.. so, on the whole its going to be 24 weeks of show that will be 6 months.. Pretty decent.. And this is what even its mentioned that it will be a 6 month show.. But the main point is

Within the time they reach the top 10, other shows would have caught up very well with voting.. Dunno whats in mind of Gajji.. But for sure, he must be having good plans of it to attract the audience.. or maybe his plan is if its too stretched then the time the other shows end, VOI will be in final rounds and for finals it will gain the popularity.. 😉

I do agree that the most optimal time for auditions would have been 1 day per city... That would have given good time to the singers and also speeded up the contest a little...

I will not mind listening to good singers over an extended period of time, and dont care much if another show gets a higher TRP just because they have already started audience voting or have crafted the show with an overdose of drama... Not sure if 6 singers will be selected from all the auditioning cities, but even if they do - they will select 36 singers in 6 weeks; i.e. by end of June... and that is the time when the other programs would already have almost selected the top 10 and would be gearing up for the final votes.. There is bound to be some split of votes between the 2 shows, while VOI would still focus on choosing the best out of a bunch of very good singers with its judges... And when it will probably start its final round of 10-12 finalists, the other shows would have already wrapped up, and the entire focus will be on this one... There it goes making up for all the TRP that it may be compromised on in the earlier rounds for choosing quality singers... I think, thats a very smart move by Gajendra Singh - who ofcourse knows the best secrets of the game!

Good point, but you ignore the possibility that by the time the other two shows wrap up and SVOI gets to its final leg, people will have gotten tired of talent hunt shows - especially if all their energy and money had been invested the other 2 shows, they won't have much of either to spare for the third.

I remember by the time C2005 ended, I was completely out of it, and didn't have the heart to focus my energies all over again into another show - Indian Idol 2. Even II2 started its final leg after C2005 ended, but it still didn't do well. C2005 was still fresh in people's minds, and II2 found it hard to reach that mark.

As far as your optimism about the SVOI singers go, I wish you had half that optimism when it came to SRGMP singers 😉. I believed in giving SRGMP singers a chance, and I will give the same chance to SVOI singers. Like the SRGMO singers have picked up, I'm sure, and I hope, SVOI singers will too. But I fear, given the long format, that it may be too late by then.

Well - depends on what the viewer is looking at and hence which show it follows... If drama and unnecessary sledging is what attracts the viewers to a reality show, then sure one will find their niche elsewhere... If not and they are actually looking for talent, there are all chances that they may choose SVOI over others in all the weeks to come.. Its about making a conscious decision on what you want to see... Given that, I think once the SVOI opens up for audience voting it will already have a solid fan base to go for it... The viewers shifting from the wrapped up shows will just be the added bandwidth!

I agree the 6 weeks of auditions only is way too stretched but people who do not want to go thru this can join in once 32 are selected. Should not be a problem there.

I guess, this show format is one which is making the show unpopular among the people.. They are getting bored of such audition rounds..
