Waseem : i owe a lot to producer rajan shahi

Actor Waseem Mushtaq who is currently seen as Tej in Rajan Shahi's 'Amrit Manthan' wanted to become a singer.

In the third season of 'Indian Idol', Waseem qualified from his home state Kashmir, but after that when he finally came to the next rounds judges Javed Akhtar, Alisha Chenoy and Udit Narayan rejected his voice and interestingly composer and judge Anu Malik told Waseem that he should try his luck in the acting field. After completing his MBA, Waseem came to Mumbai and started working for a channel.

"I was working at the town office and was for the music channels under the Zee banner. One day I was not sitting with my colleagues because of shortage of seats, and was in the programming department. That is where Sukesh Motwani, the fiction head saw me and approached me for an audition for the channel Zee Next."

Though the channel shut down, but Waseem went on for various auditions.

"I was a bit frustrated at that point of time as I was not sure what to do. Then I shifted to the Andheri office and again started going to work daily. But my heart was not supporting the ten to five routine. My room mate who is a struggling actor, was going for an audition one day and I also accompanied him and that's how I got my first role on television in Karol Bagh. I also owe a lot to Rajan Shahi who gave me the character of Tej in Amrit Manthan. When it had been offered to me lot of people from the channel also told Rajan Shahi that my sweet face will not go with the power of an army officer. But I am grateful that he listened to his inner voice and casted me for this show. After few months people have accepted me as Tej and as an actor that is a great reward."
