It was a night for television stars to come together. A grand stage setting (mostly in pink) and Mona Singh dancing in her Jassi avatar marked the beginning of the 7th Indian Telly Awards in Mumbai on Friday. The event had Mukesh Khanna and Smriti Irani swaying to the title track of OSO. Hosted by television actor Ram Kapoor and Roshni Chopra (who looked glam in a blue sari), the duo kept flirting with each other for the sake of being funny. Amber and Dhara managed to pull off the act by skipping all around the stage. Sayatani Ghosh had the audience wanting more with her dance. The Saloni girl Rajashri Thakur in a striking red outfit was mediocre. Akashdeep Saigal (who was robotic and stiff) and Dimple Jhangiani were the tackiest of all, mismatching their steps with the dance group. Jasveer Kaur danced to a popular peppy number, but her companion Kamya Punjabi did a poor imitation of the classic Mehbooba song. Smriti Irani won the "Best Ensemble Cast" for the soap Virrudh. She thanked all her co-stars, but also mentioned that she owes the most to Ekta Kapoor. Ekta, who cheered for Irani when she took the award, blew kisses to her. As Ekta took the award for "Best Production House of the Year", she mentioned that Irani was a big producer. Bigg Boss won the "Best Reality Show Award" while Rakhi Sawant (who was not present at the event) took away the award for television personality of the year. The "Best Actor and Actress" went to Ram Kapoor and Prachi Desai from the soap Kasamh Se. The evening highlighted the standup comedy act by Shakeel Ahmed Siddiqui (a comedian from Pakistan, who starred in Comedy Circus) and Urvashi Dholakia, which made everyone laugh. www.deccan.com |
