His friend, Savio, who died in the same encounter, makes him realise that he's a link between the world of the living and the world of the dead and that it's up to him to use this power. In his unique mission, Ranvir has his own network of informers, dead people spread out across the city! On occasions, Ranvir gets cases from the dead people themselves, wanting to know who killed them. His life's mission then is to try and unearth the crimes and book criminals even though the victims are dead. He finds himself in a bizarre situation when the victims themselves do not believe they are dead.
The police are cynical about his powers but find themselves forced to come to him when there are certain impossible and unsolvable crimes. Ranvir solves these crimes using normal detective techniques along with his supernatural powers.
Akela also deals with the many relationships in Ranvir's life. His lost love Kinnari, who is torn between her husband Dr. Rohit and her former lover, Meghana, a researcher who works with Ranvir and finds herself falling in love with him, his dead mother who talks to him, his best friend, Savio with whom he shares a different relationship in life and now in death too, Ranvir's mentor DCP Paras Aditya, who does not believe in spirits but continues to support Ranvir.
This unique supernatural drama with murders, mysteries, unrequited love and profound emotions brings alive the story of Ranvir whose life becomes a constant struggle to make people believe in his unusual powers while fighting to live a normal life.
According to B P Singh, producer-director of the show, 'Akela will be a serial with a difference. We are trying to break new grounds by bringing in the supernatural element. We've done popular thrillers in the past but with Akela we are attempting to move in to different areas.'
