An imaginary scene came to mind on this lazy Sunday so I thought I would add a little fiction to the mix. A bit of a spoof for fun.
Prem and Tejaswini were standing behind a hidden passageway in the mansion keeping an eye on Preeti and listening in on her conversation with presumably, Mandira. They were in a secret room next to Preeti's bedroom and what looked like an unassuming picture of elephants hanging on the wall was actually a spy hole cleverly camouflaged in the scenery of the picture with access from the room where Prem and Tejaswini were standing.
Prem looked through the spy hole and could see Preeti sitting on a chair and speaking on her phone. He couldn't hear very clearly what she was saying but he wasn't worried as they already had the room bugged and her conversation was being recorded as she spoke.
Teja pulled on his sleeve and nudged him to the side so that she could take a look. She looked through the hole and saw that Preeti was still talking on the phone and was now pacing back and forth across her room and flaying her arms in the air in her usual dramatic fashion.
"Seriously, I could just strangle her," she told Prem. "I should have figured it out sooner that she was this way. Do you know that when we were teenagers, there was a boy in school who had a crush on me and she went all crazy then too. I only just realized it now. She would..."
Prem interrupted her by swinging her around to face him. He looked intently at her and narrowed his eyes. "Who is this boy? What is his name?" he demanded.
"What? He was just a boy in our school. I think it was Eduardo."
"Eduardo? What kind of Indian name is Eduardo?" he asked.
"Well, it isn't. He was from Brazil and his father was transferred here for his work. Why are you asking?"
"So, you were in love with a foreigner," he spat out. "Did he hug you?" he glared at her and his fists were balled up. He pressed her against the wall next to the spy hole.
Teja rolled her eyes and shook her head, placing her hands on his chest. "Prem, calm down. He never hugged me and I was never in love with him. I was only 15 years old when he moved to India and attended my school! What I was trying to say was that back then, Preeti conspired and manipulated evil schemes just like she is now."
Prem leaned in to her, his face just a breath away from hers. "You are mine. I don't want to hear about any Eduardo ever again. Do you understand? There isn't any room for anyone else in your heart but me. My love for you is like a consuming fire, Tejaswini," his breath brushed against her skin as he nuzzled his face into the base of her neck.
He took in the scent of her hair and sighed. "Your hair smells exotic." He sniffed again. "Do I detect mango?" he asked.
"Yes! It's a new shampoo that maa sent me. Doesn't it smell delicious! It also has papaya in it and some exotic fruits that I've never heard of. It was imported from the Amazon," she said as she giggled when Prem's stubbled face tickled her neck.
He pulled his face away from her. "The Amazon? Isn't that in Brazil?" he said with an underlying anger in his tone.
"Now Prem," she cooed, willing him to not erupt again. "It's just a coincidence. Nothing can come between my love for you," she said as she looked adoringly into his eyes. Just then, they heard a loud noise coming from Preeti's room. Prem took the position behind the spy hole and saw that an unknown man had entered her room and was speaking to her in a noticeably angry demeanour.
"A man is in her room. I don't know who he is but there is something peculiar about him. He isn't Indian," he told Tejaswini.
She nudged him aside so that she too could take a look. She looked through the hole and then abruptly pulled back, letting out an audible gasp before her hand covered her mouth. Her eyes widened and she looked sheepishly at Prem.
"What is it?" he asked her.
Barely a sound above a whisper, she said, "It's Eduardo!"
The lines in Prem's face hardened and his posture stiffened as he looked like he was ready to do battle.
