Singh Rathore?

Just started watching this show and am a huge fan but there is one thing that makes no sense. Why is Prem's middle name Singh (a Punjabi name) and last name Rathore (a Rajasthani/Marwari name)? His character is Gujarati and nothing in the show suggests that he is Punjabi and just happens to live in Gujarat. Also Guju people's middle name by tradition is always their father's first name whereas I know in Punjabi families everyone's middle name is the same bc it is a family name. So everyone's middle name would be Singh, Rai. etc. I am Gujarati and this seems so jarring to me. Unless i am mistaken and there are other Gujus who have singh as middle name and Rathore as last name. Did anyone else notice that?

Hey😊! (HUGE DISCLAIMER) I am not a history buff by any means but I did have a class which touched upon this slightly. Apparently, Singh (mostly as a middle name) and Rathore have been used by Rajput clans so that isn't so surprising. Being gujarati, myself, I have not seen these names used BUT maybe it can be related to how families describe themselves? For example, Kshatriya's include all regions of india and Singhs can fall into that definition. My Masa is punjabi and brahmkshatriya (as is my Masi and the rest of my family) so yeah I can see the "singh rathore" connection but not towards a gujarati, unless by a faaar stretch.

Someone else might have a better answer but this is my guess (hopefully it came across as PC as possible) 😆☺️

I was wondering the same: why is their family's middle name Singh? I am an NRI Gujarati and I did have a friend once who was also Gujarati with the last name Rathore. But the Singh part didn't make sense to me either.

If you do a google search there seems to be a lot of Singh Rathod/Singh Rathore, so it seems pretty common,but i don't know if it is Gujarati or not, even Anil Kapoor's character in 24 is a Jai Singh Rathore. From what I understand its a Rajput name , so maybe they are a Rajput family settled in Rajpipla for many years!
