Entertainment is a rough business for stars - up one day and down in the dumps the next. Television sitares especially, are susceptible to rapid declines in popularity, witness Amar Upadhyay, Mihir of Kyunki.., who had India at his feet one week and the next, with the twist of a writer's pen, was offloaded by the wayside, as the serial's story turned away from him.
5: Manish Goel
We knew him on Kasautii Zindagi Kay as a mean character dependent on his wife Poonam Narula and that was the role that defined him. Later, he won acclaim for his sensitive portrayal of husband Tilak in Bhabhi on STAR Plus, before leaving that show as well. Manish was runner-up on Nach Baliye I and his last role was playing Vedanta in Betiyaan Apni on STAR One, before being written out of that show as well.
4: Gaurav Chopra
He played businessman Kabeer Jairath in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Prem in Piya Ka Ghar. His last serial was Aisa Des Hai Mera, which went off air on December 26, 2006. He paired with Narayani Shastri on Nach Baliye II before sinking into the abyss of anonymity. But Gaurav puts up a brave face: "I have been receiving offers for a dance show and all will be revealed in the coming weeks", he says.
3: Manasi Joshi Roy
Manasi, part of a legendary family in Gujarati theatre, is the daughter of Arvind Joshi (who played one of Sanjeev Kumar's sons in Sholay, who were shot by Gabbar, remember?). She played the main role of Sudha in Sony's serial Saaya before becoming the second Kkusum. Her last appearance was in Nach Baliye I.
2: Mauli Ganguly
Mauli was popular as Shaina of Kahin Kissi Roz. After that she was seen in Saakshi and Sarkar. Her last serial was Reshm Dank and she's not been seen on television since.

She is the Aishwarya Rai of the small-screen, Kashish of Kahin To Hoga. Amazingly, this has been the only role she has ever played, starting September 2003 and ending last week. She is off the screen for now, though talks are on with Sony for her to lead a serial in which she will play a more hip and less desi role.
