All love and Kher

Kirron and Anupam Kher - perfect company.
By RANA SIDDIQUI IF YOU hear the story of the union of Anupam and Kirron Kher, you will instantly draw a parallel to the famous singing duo Jagjit and Chitra Singh's past life. In both cases the women earlier underwent a traumatic divorce experience and found their old-time friends standing by their side, lending emotional support. Both ended up marrying these friends. But Kirron Kher's story has a touch of what you might have seen in Hum Tum. They met and got separated several times before a final reunion. "We met at Department of Theatres in Chandigarh in 1974 when Balwant Gargi was its Head of Department. He was very lively and friendly. We became best of friends. I had come from Shimla and he from Mumbai. After we passed out from here, he went to join the National School of Drama and also taught for some time in Lucknow at Bhartendu Harishchandra College. But I went back to Mumbai and got married." This former badminton player who represented India at the age of 13, has a proud lineage. Her mother was a "great actress and Urdu scholar" of her times. She was captain of almost all games played in her college in Chandigarh. Kirron played badminton at university, state, and country level from 1968 to 1972. Her sister Kanwal Thakar was a national champion in tennis singles. Amandeep Singh, their painter brother, recently passed away. Kirron was pursuing her career in theatre when veteran actress Nargis introduced her to filmdom in 1977. Dharmendra's mother Diljit Kaur was known to her. She also did her bit to help her get acquainted to the film world. "But at that time great actresses like Suraiya ji and Nargis ji ruled the film horizon. For a newcomer like me there was no place. So I returned and resumed theatre," recalls Kirron. A common point What attracted Anupam and Kirron to each other was compassion for fellow humans. Though they end up behaving just opposite to each other at home. While Anupam is passive, patient and brave, Kirron is aggressive, blunt and yet timid. "I create a scene when I find something going wrong. I say things to a person's face and forget it after some time. But he keeps quiet and bears all my tantrums with great patience. He can work with NGOs associated with mentally challenged children but I can't do that. The sight of such children takes a toll on me. I keep crying thinking of their parents and siblings," says Kirron. They got married in 1985. "It happened only in one look." After working together in a play called "Chanadpuri Ki Champabai", they became very friendly. "After my broken marriage he took me to his guruji's ashram in Gurgaon. We also travelled to Kolkata once for a play. It was here, when after the play Anupam was packing his bags and he told me he was going back to Mumbai with a look that changed everything. I was not ready for the idea of his departure. He instantly proposed to me and we got married," reveals Kirron. "I have always admired her honesty and straightforwardness, compassion and integrity and that she is always a complete professional when it comes to work," says Anupam. Anupam also has a brother, Raju Kher who looks just like Anupam and has worked in a few serials and films. Now the duo works together with a clear division of labour. "He manages office and I manage home. While my son helps him in our production house" Kirron informs.

Now it's a proud family of three. "Three is company, not a crowd in our case," chuckles a vivacious Kirron.

Article no 2....

Anupam Kher and Kiron Kher

Anupam and Kiron Kher are another celebrity pair who shares what is commonly acknowledged as a successful marriage. A second marriage for each of them, they have both come a long way indeed, fueled by each other's drive, determination and talent. Anupam, a student of the National School of Drama, Delhi, first met Kiron, as a struggling theatre actor in Mumbai. In the other, they each found what they were looking for in a marriage partner. Kiron had one son from her previous marriage.

While Anupam was the gritty, talented actor with a burning desire to succeed, Kiron was the articulate, stylish wife with loads of pizzazz; together they made a lethal combination. The film industry soon realized Anupam's potential as an actor and he catapulted to fame. Kiron on the other hand was free to pursue her love for theatre. Today their marriage is described as one of the most stable ones in Bollywood. With a production company of their own, the couple has experimented with art films as well as commercial Bollywood fare, and their efforts both combined and individual have reaped rewards.

Their play 'Salgirah' by playwright Feroz Khan, in which they shared the stage, gave India its first taste of supper theatre. Kiron won critical acclaim for her roles in movies like Rituparno Ghosh's 'Bariwali' and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas'. Like most successful people, Anupam is more than happy to allow the world a glimpse of his marriage and climb to the top, with his home production - an autobiographical play called 'Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai', based on his life.

brilliant article JOJO 👍🏼 ....Thanks for sharing... 👏

So love exists and you can see it around😳....I am really happy to read the article😃....I have always admired Kirron Kher....her persona...her acting...her energy...her elegance....her warmth (just reflects from her mere presence)....she was brilliant in every character she played... 😊

And Anupam Kher..as well....I always wonder what brings two good people together on this earth...how do people meet each other who are just made for each other...here is an example....The way she said, "Just one look and changed everything.." 👏

But I want her to be stronger, when she said, "she keeps crying thinking about mentally disabled children and their parents..." while Anupam Kher is doing a lot for them...I wish lady can contribute more in this with her husband.😊..I know women esp mothers are very emotional...but mothers are the strongest people on this earth.👏..I have seen disabled people and their families from very close...may be, thats why I feel she can contribute more in this direction...because she has got everything to be a good human being😊....and this will help her being a satisfied soul inside out..😊

Hey Jojo, thanks for sharing.
But Kirron Kher did not do films in 1977 because Suraiyaa and Nargis were ruling the roost? 1977 is two years after Sholay.... there is something definitely wrong here. The journalist has got her glaringly wrong... how can these people cover films while getting their facts so wrong... ufffffffffffff.

Hey Vasu call me obsessive compulsive if you will but i just googled Sholay release date and it is 1975. But even if it were 1974, Suraiyya could not possibly have been the ruling star of the time. So i think something is wrong.

ya, sholay was in 1975..... 😊 ...but Suraiya was a part of black and white films...I guess....She was a singer too...I remember only one song of hers... 😃

"Woh paas rahein ya door rahein...nazron mein samaaye rehte hain...
Itna to bata de koi hamein kya pyaar isiko kehte hain..." 😳 😳
(Even I am surprised why do I remember this song...)

SO Sholay and Sauraiyaa can't be together....
yes shvetal....1975....Nargis and Saraiya shud not be there...Here Kiron Kher must be talking about them in different context...or may be some part is edited by the journalist, so this confusion. 😕
