Another interview with Gaurav Chopra

Jhbdesi caught up with him in between fashion shows to gain more insight into this complex character(Is he complex, he is very sweet, i guess). So how did he get into the business of acting...well behind every successful career there lies a story. Here's Gauravs.

Having started off studying fashion design at well renowned National Institute of Fashion and Technology in India, he soon realized that he was more suited to the ramp than in design.(good realization, well in time, otherwise how could we spot him) It was also around this time that he got involved in stage productions…enjoying the different challenges acting brought with it. And as they say in show business...the rest is history.( Aisa des hai mera is a history.....😭, I am missing it...😭)

As he ventured more into acting the challenges became greater...at one stage he was acting in four different TV serials. ( Where was I at that time....)Hectic schedules and little sleep did not deter him as he is a person driven by new challenges. All this hard work led to what possibly could be his biggest break thus far…a role opposite multi award winning Leonardo Di Caprio. Blood Diamond, which is shot in Mozambique, will soon be released. ( Hard work is going to earn him much more....👏)This is Gaurav's first break into mainstream cinema, and despite it being only a 10 min sequence…he is thankful to have had the experience. And like he say's, 'nobody is a small actor...'( Atleast he is not a small actor)

When asked about South African Indian culture as compared to the culture of India. Without hesitation he replied, 'You're a lot more Indian than we are.' For us it seemed hard to believe…but here's how he substantiated his answer. For him culture is not about going to the temple, nor is it about praying in a certain way. That is religion or ones' spirituality. These ideals often become packaged as rules that one is expected to follow…thought to be the manner in which culture is preserved. But at the same time the world is changing, becoming smaller, and cultures are intermingling and influencing each other. It is not that India is losing its culture but rather culture is evolving. ( I love it......)

So does this bold statement imply that South African Indians are somewhat afraid of this change and integration of cultures…could it be that they're afraid their culture isn't strong enough to withstand the process of change and therefore hold on that much harder? Or is the belief that despite the changing times, ones culture should remain steadfast? This remains open to discussion...

What car do u wish u had? Just saw the Mercedes SLK…not yet available in India…looked like a dream…busy calculating whether it is affordable on my salary (Mercedes SLK.......ranges from 30000 to 50000 GBP, around 25 to 45 Lacs INR)
Cd or Tape? Cd…but wait a minute…I have a feeling of nostalgia about my tapes…especially the ones made by former girlfriends ( former girlfriends, how many so far......)
