Accidents and actors make for strange bedfellows. But they are bedfellows nonetheless! And yet another actor to be injured on the sets was Saumya Tandon, of the Sony daily Aisa Des Hai Mera. She was shooting at Kamalistan Studios and a scene required her to run down a flight of stairs. Instead, Saumya slipped and came crashing down.
No major injuries
Thanks to the fall, she injured her back and suffered several bruises. But despite the injury and the nagging pain, Saumya continued shooting and canned the scenes. What's more, she was back on the sets the next day to shoot a dance number that required her to do the tandav!
"Yes, it was scary," says Saumya, who plays Rusty in the show. "I had to do an X-ray and luckily there were no major injuries. But I was in a lot of pain and discomfort. I could not even walk properly," she says.
The unit was shooting late in the night four days ago when the incident happened. "This particular scene had me coming face-to-face with Samay (Gaurav Chopraa). It was pouring and the shot had me struggling with an umbrella and my dupatta flying off. At this particular moment, Gaurav comes to my rescue and returns my dupatta. I was supposed to act scared and had to run away from Gaurav via these concrete stairs. The next thing I knew, I had crashed to the bottom of the staircase," says Saumya.
What an impact!
The unit rushed to help the actress. "They told me that the _expression I had on my face after the fall was worth capturing. And I could barely walk after the fall!"
A day later, Saumya was at Film City doing a tandav for the show. "This scene required me to do a one-and-a-half minute tandav. I somehow managed to do it despite the pain. Don't ask me how but I did it," says Saumya, who has learnt kathak.
Adds producer Manish Goswami of Siddhant Cinvevision, "Despite the injury, Saumya continued to shoot. We were shooting this special tandav number with her and she was very sporting about it."
Incidentally, Chopraa's recent entry as Samay in this Sony drama was supposed to have a big impact. But Rusty, whose love interest he plays, already bore the brunt of the impact with her first encounter with him at the shoot!
