Chapter 8

29 October- 08:00

Aakash woke up with a jerk and felt sweat beads running down his forehead. The dream was still fresh in his mind. Ananya was in a storeroom, tied down to a chair and hurt badly. And then the kidnapper entered, lifted up a knife and... He couldn't think about it. It was only a dream. But why did it seem so real? Why did he feel Ananya was calling out to him? Aakash got out of bed and went to wash his face. He needed to find Ananya, at any cost. There was no other option. And he only had today and tomorrow. He went towards the window of his hotel and all the moments he spent with Ananya started flashing through his head.

The time when Anaya had walked out from the shower flashed through his head. He hadn't been able to take his eyes off her.

Hai kya yeh jo tere mere darmiyaan hai

Andekhi ansuni koi dastaan hai

The dinner they had shared together, the few precious moments when everything had been fine.

Lagne lagi, ab zindagi khaali

Hai meri, lagne lagi har saans bhi khaali

Her infectiously pretty laugh, something he missed so much.

Bin tere, bin tere, bin tere

Koi khalish hai hawaon mein bin tere

The last moment he had spent with her, when she had walked off, without even looking back. He wished he hadn't just let her go. A few more moments and she could have been safe, with him.

Suddenly his phone beeped, bringing him out of his reverie. Aakash checked his phone and saw one message. From Shefali. "Yes. Finally some solid lead," he thought to himself as he opened the message and downloaded the recording. Aakash sat down with a piece of paper and started listening to the recording.

"Oh, we don't want money. We just need you. You, sweetheart, are the main part of our plan," said, who Aakash could assume to be, the kidnapper.

"I don't get what-" Ananya was suddenly cut of as a sickening crunch was heard. Aakash could only guess that Ananya would have been unconscious by now.

He then heard some really muffled words. Damn, why couldn't they have talked louder? The recording finished and Aakash had been left with what he had started with. Zilch. Nothing. But he had to keep trying. So he listened again. And again. It was only by the third time did he pick up a faint tapping sound, which was in some kind of pattern. As he listened to it some more, a switch flicked in his brain. It was Morse code! It was necessary for all officers to learn Morse code, something which would serve him well today. It took 4 more times for Aakash to get the whole Morse code down. But it was just a mix of dots and lines. It would still need a lot of work to get it into a form he could understand.

He looked at the piece of paper in front of him and started decoding it. But all he got was a jumble of random letters. Great. First a jumble of dots, now of letters. He stared at the paper for some more time. What the hell could he do with this?! That's when the second light bulb in his head flicked on. He shifted all the letters back one and saw a transformation. He let out a gasp. He had done it! He had found Ananya's location. HE HAD FOUND HER LOCATION! He hurriedly called the organisation.

"I hope you have something important to say Aakash,' the voice said on the other end of the line.

"Yes sir. I found the location. I need backup."

"What? The location of the Mastermind?"

"Umm. No sir, the location of Ananya."

"Oh, Ananya. I see. But do I have to remind you that you have to find the Mastermind as well?"

"No sir, I remember. But right now Ananya's life is in danger. I request permission to lead a small group of officers into the kidnappers' hideout and rescue her sir. And I'm fairly sure that I would be able to find a clue about the Mastermind during this time as well."

"I hope you know what you are doing Aakash. I will send you a few officers. But make sure this is successful. I don't want to lose any of my officers. They will meet you at the location in 2 hours."

"Of course sir, thank you." Aakash heard the man hang up. Today would be a long day for him and he hoped he would be able to survive.
