Chapter 4
28 October 2014- 17:00
Ananya shivered as the cold hit her. She could feel that she was tied onto a chair, but her eyes were covered with a cloth. She tried to move her hands but she realised that there was a rope cutting into her wrists and she felt a lump on the side of her forehead. Most probably from the gun, she thought. Now to think about what was going on around her. She tried to keep calm, because she knew panicking wouldn't help. Why was she targeted? What was her fate? What did the kidnappers really want from her? Just as she was pondering over the last question, she heard the sound of a door being opened and slammed shut. And that was all it took for her heart to start racing again.
"Good morning sleeping beauty. How nice of you to finally wake up and grace up with your presence."
"Not that you gave me a choice" Ananya muttered.
"What? What was that?" the kidnapper asked menacingly.
"I said, not that you gave me any choice" she said louder.
The kidnapper bellowed and raised his hand, but suddenly stopped. He panted, as if trying very hard to control his emotions.
"It's okay. It's okay." he said calming himself down. "I'll spare you for now. Just as long as you answer a few questions for us." She couldn't see his face but just from hearing his voice, she knew that he was grinning right now. And then she realised what he had said and a frown appeared on her forehead. What would she know that these people needed?
"Look, I have no idea who you are and I seriously doubt that I know anything valuable to you. Just let me-"
"Oh no, not this soon. You and me, sweetheart, we have a lot of talking to do. And I know that you are very valuable. After all, Captain Aakash is your...hmm...how should I put it...friend right?" he asked matter-of-factly.
"Aakash? How does he come into all of this?"
"Oh come on now, sweetheart, don't act all innocent. You know everything about him. Otherwise why would you have helped him?"
"Helped him? I have no idea what you are talking about. Just let me go." She struggled against the ropes, which just cut deeper into her skin, and she felt something wet trickling down her wrists.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. Struggling will just make it worse, and we wouldn't want that would we?" Ananya stopped struggling, and tried to blink back the tears that were threatening to spill over. Why was she in this situation? Would someone realise that she was missing and reach her in time? Or would it be too late?
Chapter 5
28 October 2014- 21:00
Ananya had no idea what was going on around her. She didn't know anything about what they were asking her. Why couldn't they understand?! She screamed out of frustration in her head. The kidnapper had asked her the same question over and over again. What were Aakash's plans? How did he know what was going on in their organisation? Did he have a spy in here? Why was she helping him? She didn't have any answers but they wouldn't listen to her. And the last question he asked was still ringing in her ears. Was she a part of the Defence Intelligence Agency as well? As well? Ananya wasn't stupid and the conclusion she came to was the only possible outcome she could think of. And it didn't please her one bit. Aakash was an officer at the Defence Intelligence Agency. It was the only thing that made sense. But this conclusion brought anything but answers. Why was Aakash posing as a commercial pilot? Was he undercover? And if he was, why would he need to be undercover in an airline? But this information brought one big relief. If Aakash was an undercover officer, then he was most probably trying to find her right now. And if that was the case then she was determined to help him.
Just then a spell of dizziness hit her. She had been kept without food or water since she had been abducted. Even though they had taken off her blindfold and untied the ropes (obviously the door was locked, she had already tried) she couldn't tell what the time was. She guessed it would be around 9pm by now. And she hadn't had anything since last night. The night triggered a lot of memories for her. The way Captain Aakash has given her the room and was willing to sleep on the couch, how they had shared a meal and the way he had allowed her to keep the lights on.
And then the way he had just got up and left her, without a proper explanation. That had made her mad. Why? She wasn't sure. The rational side of her brain was questioning her thoughts. She admitted that he didn't owe her an explanation. He was barely a friend, let alone someone who had to give an explanation to her. But the emotional side of her brain kept butting in. Why was she feeling so bad that Aakash was with Natasha the whole night? Why did it just feel so wrong? After all, as Aakash had said, they were best friends. Because of that, she hadn't had any food in the morning either. And then she landed here. Another wave of dizziness hit her and Ananya collapsed, her body unable to hold her up any longer.
"Hello. Hello. Anyone there?" Ananya called out, using the last of her strength. She hoped that the kidnappers needed her alive and wouldn't let her starve to death.
"Hello." Ananya was fast losing her strength, and her vision became clouded. "Anyone there?" she croaked, her eyes already closing. Suddenly, the door banged open and in came another man. He wasn't the same one from before. Ananya wondered how many of them were there.
"Please some water. I need water."
"Really now? Well why don't you come and get it?" The second kidnapper held up a bottle of water a few metres away from where Ananya was lying. She slowly dragged herself onto her feet and reached out for the water...when the kidnapper threw the bottle to the other side of room and laughed.
"Did you really think it would be that easy? Do you think we don't know how to handle people who won't tell us the information we need?"
"I won't ever tell you anything, even if I knew what you were talking about." Ananya said defiantly, even though she was swaying on her feet.
"Let's see how strong you are tomorrow, without water or food." He laughed again and left, leaving Ananya to collapse unconscious on the floor.
