Kiran Bedi has received a good response for her new show Aap Ki Kacheri. The award winning former super cop tells us about her show and expresses her views on the aftermath of the blasts.
"This show provides variety on television and if the audiences are accepting it, then I am happy .Many people come with their life long disputes and get solutions in one session over here .It does take time to convince them to open up," says Kiran.
"Most of the cases have come from NGOs who have been doing counselling for both the parties. The NGOs suggested providing a forum like this to solve disputes. We don't force people to come here; we decide to include them on the show if they are willing to open up about their problems. Some of them resolve their dispute, some of them don't, it depends on the case" says Bedi, matter of fact.
So was it difficult for the producers to convince her for the show? "Not at all!" she replies, adding, "There was no reason to say no to this show. It gives me a chance to pass the message of rights and educate people about their rights. In fact it is part of my mission which I will continue even after the show. When I watch episodes of the show on television, you will not believe it but at that time even I get to learn something new from the show. Like I have realized women are becoming aware of their rights now, which is great. Moreover, I do not think there is any other medium as powerful as the television, so that was the other reason for doing this show."
Talking about her way of handling the show she says,"I try to solve issues with control and balance; I cannot be biased towards any party. I listen to both the parties carefully. If I am talking to someone with a particular body language, it is because I feel the person needs to be treated with that kind of body language. I do my research very well. I have come here after 35 years of experience which helps to resolve cases. Plus there is legal team too which also helps me in resolving issues."
Following the recent Mumbai blasts, she feels that the people and the media should make the government accountable for its actions. "We had the least resources with us when it all happened. Now, we have got new resources in the form of a new Home Minister, so we hope that things will change for the better. Further we are not moving towards success, and we should all work together for this crime justice reform movement which the media has started. They should make the government answerable for all its deeds, we should make citizens and the government alert and should not give up this movement."
Lastly, she also thinks political parties should pay for their own security. "Parties should fund their own security and as far as the government is concerned, if they are responsible to provide such security then they need to provide it but I am sure that things will change now and the Government better become more responsible."
