The Night We Met

"Yeh Karan bhi naa. Geet, can you please go to Khurana Constructions and collect our payment? Now I have to meet that akdu again. Babaji! Why does it have to be me always?" Geet mumbled to herself in anger, irritated with the fact that she had to meet him again after the morning incident.

She stepped inside the office and directly went towards the reception. "Hey! I am from M3 Event Management Company. I have come to collect the payment for the party we conducted last night."

"Ma’am, you can go to the MD’s cabin. Please take the lift to the 5th floor, and you will find his cabin on your left," the receptionist informed with a smile.

Geet nodded her head with a thank you and pressed the lift button to the 5th floor. She went inside the lift and kept thumping her back restlessly against the left wall, still cursing Maan.

Maan was busy reading a file for his next project when he heard a knock on the door.

"Please come in," he said in a gentle tone, giving Geet a heart attack and leaving her in a daze that he could talk so politely.

His head shot up, feeling her fragrance in the air as she made her way inside his cabin.

He smiled mischievously, watching her look at him in anger. "I can’t believe my luck today that we are meeting again."

"Don’t have high hopes, Mr. Khurana. I am here to collect a cheque on behalf of Karan," Geet said, standing behind the chair opposite him.

"I see, please have a seat. I’ll sign the cheque," he pointed towards the chair and pulled out a cheque book from the drawer.

Geet sat down on the chair and watched him fill in the amount and then scribble his signature.

Her face twitched in pain as she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. She clutched her abdomen and then looked downwards, feeling liquid flowing down her legs. She stared at her yellow dress, horrified to see it getting covered with blood. The only thought that came to her mind was the baby.

"Maan," he heard his name from her mouth in a painful voice.

"Geet," he shouted, seeing her face filled with tears and came to her side.

"Please save my baby." Those were her last words, which he heard before she lost consciousness, falling lifelessly on the chair.

"Baby," Maan murmured in shock, and just then his elbow hit the reports kept on the table. The sonogram dropped down on the floor, and realization hit him hard as he looked at the sonogram one more time before paying attention to Geet.

He looked through the glass window at Geet, who was being treated by her doctor. He took a step back and slumped on the bench, hiding his face behind his palms, lost in his thoughts.

"Mr. Khurana," the doctor called out, stepping out of the emergency room.

Maan stood up and stared at her with hope in his eyes.

The doctor smiled and kept her hand on his shoulder. "The baby is fine. It’s Geet’s first trimester, and some women face bleeding issues during this phase. She is absolutely fine, but she needs complete bed rest during this pregnancy. No stress for her until she gives birth."

As the doctor left, Maan smiled in relief, but the next moment, his facial expression changed to an angry one, ashamed of himself for putting her in this condition.

"How could you, Maan? You are the sole reason for what’s happening with Geet. What have you done, Maan? You could have given her money as a loan instead of using her compulsion to satisfy your desires. You have failed as a man. You failed Dadimaa, Maan. You failed your parents as well, Maan," he thought in remorse, hitting his hand on the wall.

He stared at his reflection on the glass door. He could see a pathetic soul behind this face, who destroyed Geet’s life for his attraction towards her.

"You need to take responsibility for your actions, Maan," he felt so guilty for ruining her life.
