The Night We Met

Part-7

Geet stirred open her eyes feeling a bit lighter. She tried to move her right hand to feel her baby but felt a manly touch on her skin. She tilted her neck and found Maan sleeping, keeping his head on her hand. She stared at him for a second and then pulled back her hand slowly, not wanting to disturb his sleep, but he woke up feeling her hand slipping from under his head.

“Geet, tum theek ho?” he asked, straightening himself and sitting back on his chair, keeping distance between them.

She nodded her head and then looked at him with teary eyes, murmuring, “Baby.” He shook his head, guessing that she was thinking she lost her baby.

“Baby is fine. It was normal bleeding that sometimes happens in pregnancy, but as you are facing this complication in your tenure, you need to rest fully,” he informed with a straight face devoid of any emotions, feeling guilty of making her go through this situation.

He watched her as a smile tugged on her lips hearing her little one is fine. He saw her palm sliding on her abdomen, feeling the baby. A tear escaped his eye, feeling her love for their baby. She was not paying any attention to him; she was busy celebrating her little happiness inwardly.

“Geet,” he called out, eager to have a conversation with her.

She looked at him, smiling, still lost in her baby. His breath got stuck in his throat watching her beautiful smile. In spite of everything that he did with her, she was still smiling and had accepted their baby as her own.

“We need to talk, Geet. I know this is my baby and I want to take responsibility for you and the baby,” he declared, fearing her reaction.

She was as calm as before; there was no change in her facial expressions. “Maan, you need not do this. You have your own life, and the baby is not a result of love that you have to take responsibility for. It just happened, Maan. I was in dire need of money, and you gave it to me in exchange for” she stopped, turning her head to the other side and taking a deep breath.

He lowered his eyes as he felt more guilty now of his deeds.

He cleared his throat, gulping down the thick lump in his throat, “I want to, Geet. I know I have committed a crime; a mistake that shouldn’t be forgiven ever, but please forgive me, Geet. I don’t know why I even gave you that offer when I never did to a girl ever.”

He held her hand in his and made her turn towards him. “Will you marry me, Geet?”

She closed her eyes and started crying, feeling overwhelmed with emotions.

He looked at her for a moment, unsure if he should take this step without her permission, but then he did. He gathered her in his arms, bending a bit over her body. His right hand went around her waist, and the other cupped her nape, hiding her face in his chest.

“Please, Geet, just one chance. I promise I’ll never disappoint you,” he mumbled in her ear. She clutched his shirt tightly in her fists and sobbed, feeling his warmth around her cold body.

She nodded her head against his chest. She was exhausted, tired of facing so many things in her life at such a young age. She had tried to keep herself strong for her little sister and even her baby, but she desperately needed a shoulder to cry on and somebody to hold her hand in this situation. She would have done this alone, giving birth to her baby, raising her kid; she was that strong, she knew, but she has always believed in forgiving, and when he was repenting so much, she decided to give him a chance.

“This is not a great start to our life, Geet, but this is my promise that I’ll fill your life with colors, Geet. You will be the only girl in my life, my wife,Maan pressed a loving kiss on her head.

She slowly separated herself from him and traced her finger on his jawline as if capturing all his features in her heart. “We will start afresh, Maan. I’ll never let our past ruin our present and future. Promise me you will forget everything and stop feeling guilty; this was written in our destiny, so this happened, and now no more repenting.”

He smiled, agreeing with her, and hugged her close to his heart. She closed her eyes, submerging her body into his, and wrapped her arms around his nape.
