The Night We Met

Part-5

Maan stepped down the stairs lazily, still yawning as he was unable to sleep the whole night. He kept turning and tossing in bed last night, just thinking about Geet. He was lost in his thoughts. Her image of roaming around the party was not leaving his mind. He couldn’t believe that he actually met her after two months and she was looking breathtaking in her dress with a certain glow on her face.

His thoughts were interrupted when he slipped on the last stair but steadied himself by taking support from the wooden railing. He heard a giggle and looked towards the room beside the staircase in anger.

An eight-year-old boy shut his room door quickly when he noticed Maan tilting his head to look towards his room. He jumped on his bed and lay down in fear.

Maan shook his head and left towards the dining area for his breakfast.

“Good morning, Maan,” Daadimaa smiled cheerfully, seeing her grandson take a seat. Maan just nodded his head feeling sleepy and kept his head backward on the chair, closing his eyes.

Daadimaa looked at him with a frown, noticing his sleepy state. She stood up from her seat and caressed his hair, standing beside him. “What happened, Maan? Is your head hurting?”

He shook his head no and hugged her by placing his face on her chest, feeling her motherly warmth. He was so confused with the emotions brewing in his heart, especially after meeting Geet at the party.

Daadimaa smiled at his gesture. She could imagine him as little Maan who always used to run to her for small things.

“I have a meeting, Daadimaa. I’ll meet you at night,” he mumbled, lost in his thoughts, separating himself from her warmth, and without looking back, left from there.

“Dev, you can come out now,” Daadimaa shouted as Maan stepped out of the huge gates, hopping inside his car.

Little Dev opened his room door and ran towards the dining area, dragging his bunny with him.

“Maan bhai doesn’t love me,” Dev sulked, pouting and lowering his face in sadness.

Daadimaa sighed, taking a deep breath and pulled Dev into her lap. “He loves you, Dev, but you know right how busy your bhai is. He just doesn’t get time to play with you.”

“Are you sure?” Little Dev asked, staring at Daadimaa with hope in his heart.

“Yes, Dev, he loves you a lot,” Daadimaa kissed his head and gestured him to eat his food.

“Geet, bye!” Pari shouted, running across the living room, collecting her stuff before she zoomed out of the house for her college.

“Pari,” Geet called out, stepping outside the kitchen in a hurry, carrying a tiffin in her hands.

She stared at the open gates of her house and shook her head at her crazy sister who just left without taking her lunch. “Pagal ladki.”

Geet kept the box on the dining table and took a seat, filling some food for herself.

“Oh my god! I have an appointment with the doctor. Quickly finish your breakfast, Geet,” she mumbled to herself, hurriedly stuffing bread in her mouth, finishing off her breakfast in a hurry.

She grabbed her bag from the couch, looking into it to make sure she had all her stuff. Locking the door behind, she hailed a cab and reached the hospital in no time as it was close to her house.

She felt her head spinning as she bumped against someone. The collision was so hard that the other person also lost his balance but regained himself and saved Geet from falling by clutching onto her arm.

“Not again,” Geet thought, rolling her eyes when she opened her eyes and found Maan staring at her with a smirk on his face.

“Hey beautiful,” Maan lovingly greeted, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to himself.

“You should learn some manners, Mr. Khurana,” she said angrily, trying to pry his arms off her waist.

“Am I that bad?” he whispered in her ear, bending his head downwards near her neck.

“Yes, you are very bad,” she pushed him away from herself and straightened her hair which was all over her face due to the collision.

“Stay away,” Geet warned again, pointing her finger at him and went inside the hospital after giving him a look.

Maan kept gawking at her retreating figure, rubbing his palm on his face, smiling slyly and picked up Daadimaa’s reports from the ground. When he was on his way to the office, he remembered collecting Daadimaa’s reports from the hospital and took a U-turn to reach the hospital.

His eyes fell on a sonogram lying near his feet. He got hold of it and stared at it in confusion. He couldn’t get anything out of it as nothing was visible except for a tiny dot circled by a marker.

He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, keeping the sonogram inside the folder along with Daadimaa’s report, not having any idea about what it meant.

He again looked towards the corridor where Geet went before leaving the premises.
