Annyoyed Kashish
The family's first stop was the vibrant city of Los Angeles, where they spent three action-packed days exploring the city's iconic landmarks and attractions.
On their first day, they visited the iconic Hollywood Sign, which Khushi had only seen in movies and TV shows. She was thrilled to see it up close and personal. Next, they strolled along the famous Walk of Fame, where Khushi searched for the names of her favorite celebrities on the stars embedded in the sidewalk.
The TCL Chinese Theatre was another highlight of the day. Khushi's eyes widened as she saw the handprints and footprints of her favorite celebrities in the forecourt.
The next day, they spent a thrilling day at Universal Studios Hollywood. Khushi squealed with delight as they rode the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster, which had her screaming with excitement. Arnav and Kashish even got to try their hand at flying a broomstick in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
On their second day in Los Angeles, the family visited the famous Santa Monica Pier, where they rode the historic Ferris wheel and played games at the arcade. Khushi's face lit up when she won a giant stuffed animal at one of the games.
Kashish teased her, saying, "Wow, Khushi, you're so strong! You can carry that huge teddy bear all by yourself!"
Arnav, who was walking alongside them, chuckled and said, "Hey, Kashish, leave Khushi alone! She won something. Why do you always tease her?"
Kashish crossed her arms and scowled. "She's my sister, and I can tease her if I want!"
Khushi, who had been watching the exchange, chimed in, "Hey, Didi, don't be mean to Arnav! He's just trying to help."
Kashish stuck out her tongue at Khushi. "Mind your own business, Khushi! This is between me and Arnav."
Arnav laughed. "I think Khushi is just trying to stick up for me, Kashish. You're not going to scare me off that easily!"
Kashish rolled her eyes, but a small smile played on her lips. "Whatever, Arnav."
Nalini, who had been walking ahead of them, turned around and smiled. "What's going on here? Why all the commotion?"
Kashish crossed her arms and scowled. "Ma, I don't like it when Khushi acts like this. She's always so dramatic and attention-seeking. Can't she just calm down for once?"
Nalini's expression turned sympathetic. "Kashish, I know Khushi can be overwhelming at times, but she's just excited to be here."
Khushi looked down, feeling a bit hurt by Kashish's words. Arnav put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
***********************************************************************************************As they walked along the pier, Khushi squealed with delight at the sight of the sea lions lounging in the sun. "Ma, Ma, look! Sea lions!" she exclaimed, tugging on Nalini's hand.
Nalini smiled and nodded. "Yes, beta, aren't they amazing? Let's go get a closer look."
Khushi bounced up and down with excitement as they walked towards the sea lions. "Wow, they're so fluffy! Can we feed them, Ma?"
Nalini chuckled. "No, beta, we can't feed them. But we can watch them and take pictures."
Arnav, who was walking alongside them, pulled out his phone to take a photo. "Say cheese, Khushi!" he said, snapping a picture of Khushi grinning at the sea lions.
Khushi giggled and made a face at Arnav. "Stop taking my picture, Arnav!"
Kashish, who had been watching from the sidelines, finally spoke up. "Yeah, yeah, it's nice and all a piglet with sealions." (She get irritated and changes the topic) But can we go get some food now? I'm starving!"
Nalini smiled. "Okay, beta, let's go find something to eat. What do you feel like having, Khushi?"
Khushi thought for a moment before responding. "I want 2 cotton candy and 5 popcorn, Ma!"
Arnav chuckled. "You're going to eat all that? You'll get a stomach ache!"
Khushi grinned mischievously. "No, I won't! I have a big appetite, Arnav!"
Kashish rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right. You're going to turn into a cotton candy and popcorn machine or something."
That makes Khushi sad as she asked so much to share with Arnav and Kashish.
After exploring the wonders of San Francisco, the family headed to Santa Monica, where they unwound and relaxed at a stunning beach resort for their final few days. Their days were filled with laid-back bliss as they lounged by the sparkling pool, played lively games of beach volleyball, and took leisurely strolls along the sun-kissed beach.
Khushi was in heaven as she built elaborate sandcastles, collected an array of colorful seashells, and spent quality time with her loved ones.
Arnav and Kashish, being the energetic 10-year-olds they were, spent their time building their own sandcastles and tunnels, and then had a blast destroying each other's creations, laughing and shrieking with delight.
As the sun began to set on their beach vacation, the family gathered together to watch the breathtaking views and cherish the memories they had created together.
Once they are back in India, Khushi was busy explaining her experience to her grandparents.
Khushi sat on the couch in her grandparents' living room, surrounded by photos and mementos from their trip. Her grandparents, Nana and Nani, sat across from her, their eyes wide with excitement.
"And then, Nana, Nani, we went to Universal Studios and rode the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster!" Khushi exclaimed, her hands waving wildly as she spoke.
Nana's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Arre, Khushi, you're so brave! I don't think I could have handled that roller coaster."
Khushi grinned proudly. "I was a little scared at first, but Arnav and Kashish were with me, and we all screamed together."
Nani chuckled. "I'm sure you did, beta. And what about the sea lions at Pier 39? You told us about those on the phone."
Khushi's face lit up. "Oh, Nani, they were so cute! We watched them swim and play, and I even got to see them up close."
Kashish is annoyed "You gave every detail on phone and explaining again? I hate being with you in same house."
Khushi's face fell, and she looked hurt by Kashish's harsh words. "Didi, why are you being so mean? I was just excited to share my stories with Nana and Nani."
Kashish crossed her arms, looking sulky. "You are always getting attention and I'm sick of it."
Nani's voice was firm but gentle. "Kashish, attention isn't a limited resource. There's enough love and attention to go around for everyone. Khushi was just excited to share her stories, and you should not speak to her like that."
Khushi's eyes welled up with tears.Kashish dosent care and she walks to her room. Khushi's face crumpled as she watched Kashish walk away. She felt a lump form in her throat as she tried to hold back tears.
Khushi sniffled, "Why doesn't didi like me, Nani? I try to be nice to her, but she always says mean things."
***********************************************************************************************Arnav sat in his grandparents' living room, enthusiastically recounting his adventures in California. His grandparents, Dada and Dadi, listened with wide smiles, their eyes twinkling with delight.
"...and then, Dada, Dadi, we went to the Golden Gate Bridge, and Khushi was so excited to walk across it. She kept saying, 'Arnav, look! The bridge is so big!'"
Dada chuckled. "Arre, Arnav, it sounds like Khushi was quite the adventurous one."
Arnav grinned mischievously. "Yeah, Dada, she was! And Kashish was being her usual grumpy self. But I have to admit, the Golden Gate Bridge was really cool. We even got to ride a cable car in San Francisco."
Dadi's eyes sparkled. "Oh, I've always wanted to ride a cable car! What was it like, beta?"
Arnav's face lit up. "It was so much fun, Dadi! We held on tight and screamed as we went down the hills. Khushi was laughing and screaming the whole time."
Just then, Khushi walked into the room, still looking a bit down after her earlier encounter with Kashish. But as she heard Arnav's enthusiastic recounting of their adventures, a small smile began to form on her face.
Dadi's eyes sparkled with amusement seeing her. "Khushi, looks like you enjoyed a lot"
Khushi's smile grew wider after hearing this, she nodded eagerly. "Yes, Dadi! I had so much fun!"
Dada chuckled. "I think Arnav's already told us more than enough. You were looking a bit down earlier when you came. Why?"
Khushi's smile faltered for a moment, and she glanced down at her feet. "Didi and I had a fight," she said quietly.
Arnav's expression turned sympathetic. "Don't worry, Khushi. She's just weird sometimes."
Dada spoke up to cheer Khushi, "Arnav, beta, it's clear that you and Khushi had a wonderful time together. Next time, we can plan a trip for just the two of you at our farm house?"
By that time Kashish was sent to Arnav's home to give special home made sweets brought by her grandparents.
Kashish mocks "Ya ya, he can clean her mess there...."
Arnav's eyes narrowed slightly as he heard Kashish's mocking tone. "Hey, Kashish, that's not nice."
Khushi, who had been quietly observing the exchange, spoke up. "Didi, why are you being so mean? We are siblings and are supposed to love each other, right?"
Kashish replied "I don't like you" she walked over to the coffee table and set down the plate of sweets. "My grandparents sent these over. They're homemade," she said, her tone a bit gruff.
"Hey, Kashish, what's wrong?" Arnav asked, noticing her mocking tone earlier.
Kashish rolled her eyes. "Nothing, Arnav. Just Khushi being her usual annoying self."
Arnav chuckled. "Oh, come on, Kashish. Khushi's not that bad."
Kashish raised an eyebrow. "You're just saying that because you never stay with her all the time"
Arnav shrugged. "I would love if she stayed with me in our house."
Kashish snorted. "Whatever, Arnav. Just don't expect me to start being all buddy-buddy with her anytime soon."
She leaves from there abruptly. The room fell silent, with Dada, Dadi, and Khushi exchanging worried glances. Arnav looked thoughtful, his brow furrowed in concern.
Khushi's eyes welled up with tears, and she whispered, "I don't understand why Didi hates me so much."
Dada softly tells "So much anger at small age?"
Arnav sighed, looking concerned. "I know, Dadi. She's always been a bit jealous of Khushi."
Dada's expression turned thoughtful. "Jealousy can be a powerful emotion, especially at a young age."
Dadi nodded vigorously. "Absolutely. We can't let Kashish's behavior continue to hurt Khushi. I will speak to Nalini."
Khushi, who had been quietly listening to the conversation, spoke up. "I just want didi to be happy and not scold me always."
