Heer stood infront of the mirror and looked at herself. Pale faced,Red eyes, Dark black bruise like circles under them. Her wet hair was pulled into a messy knot over her head. She looked a real sight and a harsh laughter escaped her mouth. Somebody looking at her would think she has totally lost it but she knew if she didn't laugh right now she would end up sobbing. She couldn't let anyone see that it took her every ounce of energy to just pull herself off the bed and go through the motions. Instead of facing everyone she had chosen the cowards way out. Last three days after what happened in that shiv mandir she has closed down. She did go back to the gang, stood there while they chatted and did their stuff. No one realized anything was wrong till she during the return trip went and sat beside Nihaal. She knew he wouldn't ask her any questions. She felt everyone's gaze on her while preet tried to confront her she maintained silence. She saw preet look at prem accusingly but there were no confrontations that day.
After they all came back, she went straight for her room that night and none disturbed her. Next day she got up at 5am , did her regular chores and after telling her mother that she was going to maya's place and then she would go to college from there she left. Her mother has placed a hand on her shoulder asking her if she needed to talk. She just shrugged and left. That's what she did for three days. Left the house while everyone slept, went to maya's place who took her in without any questions and then they went to college and she worked herself to exhaustion. She came back to maya's place, worked over her assignments and came home after everyone have already finished their dinners. She dreaded that someone would be waiting for her, to question her, talk to her, but it seemed everyone got the cue that she wanted to be left alone.
Everyone had unanswered questions about what happened but the only thing, which was clear to everyone, was she and prem were over. The marriage, which was postponed, was never going to happen. Her heart was broken and there was nothing anyone could do.
Heer took a breath and banished the thoughts. She told herself, " another day heer, just go with it, don't think."
She put on a pair or jeans and a shirt and took her bag, she didn't find meher in her bed this morning. Maybe she was with veera. She left the door ajar of her room and was passing the hallway when preet came out of the study and blocked her path. She just stood there for a minute looking at him blankly when she realized that others were also there. Everyone from meher to maya and harman as well as nihaal and veera were standing in the study, looking at her.
A chill ran down her spine and she wanted to run. She didn't want to hear what they have to say or tell. She let out a breath and spoke quietly, " preet mujhe college ke liye der ho rahi hai."
She waited for him to move away but instead he caught hold of her hand and looked at her while tears spilled down his eyes. He slowly bent down and sat on his knees infront of her and sobbed. Heer was baffled for a moment seeing preet crying like a baby and then she looked at the others and the same tears reflected in everyone's eyes. She knew what was to come, her instincts were screaming at her. Yet she sat down beside preet and slowly hugged him, while he spoke the inevitable, " bhabhi, PB ne wapas jaane ka faisla kar liya hai. He wants to go back today. Yesterday he told everyone that there is nothing left here. He just wants to move on."
Preet kept murmuring the same thing and a stone settled on heer's heart. She knew this was coming yet the words felt alien to her ears. She wanted to give in and sob with preet on that floor but that won't do any good to her or anybody. Slowly she cradled his face in her palms and spoke lightly to him, "it's okay preet, it's okay little brother. We all knew it was coming. Your PB is not in love, so there is no reason for him to stay back here."
Heer kept a straight face and started soothing preet while her own heart screamed to deny everything. Preet hugged her tight " do something bhabhi, anything. If he goes away then he will never look back and I know he will be the one loosing the most in this. Stop him, we all were waiting for you here,don't go anywhere today. We have a flight to catch in the noon, there is lots of time. Just stop him bhabhi."
Heer wanted to go knock on prem's door and scream at him, plead him, beg to him, instead she slowly let go of preet. All eyes were on her and she knew too many hearts were breaking but she was not the one to mend broken hearts. Hell she couldn't even mend hers. She stood up and spoke in a calm, soft voice, " I can't do anything anymore. I love him, I always will but I can't stop him." With that she turned on her heels and went back to her room, silently closing the door behind her. It was the day she dreaded, it was time to say goodbye. He will be gone and he won't look back while she will be trapped in time. She will be trapped in love with Prem Juneja Forever.
