Chapter 1
The Unbreakable Bond
(Banner credits go to Appy!)
"You just have half an hour Vrinda! Have some rest and be back to the sets on time." yelled out Karan Johar to Vrinda.
Yep guys... you guessed right (if you did!). Vrinda is working with Karan Johar on her debut movie "Pyaar ki ek Dastaan" alongside the handsome hunk and her dream actor, Siddharth Malhotra.
"Okay Karan! Will be on time!" she yelled back, as she made her way back to her vanity van.
Suddenly, something hard poked her back, I mean, literally stabbed her back. She turned around to find Siddharth, sweetly called "Siddhu" by her, laughing uncontrollably at her annoyed expression.
"What's so funny?" she asked to the yet laughing Sid.
"Tumhari expressions, Miss. Gujju!"he said, making her smile. It was hard to be angry with Sid for long. He seemed to be one of the few people in industry, who knew how to handle her, that too, in such a short time.
She waved a bye to Sid and got into her vanity van to get some much needed rest after 3 days of continuous shooting. As soon as she shut the door close, she fell on her bed with a sigh. She closed her eyes to drift off to sleep, but none came.
"Hey Krishna! This continuous shoot is making me restless!" she shouted to herself, when her words came echoing back to her.
She smiled as she remembered her first ever dialogue, "Hey Krishnaji!!!!!!!!". The dialogue which brought her to where she is now. The show which gave her whatever she had now, "Dil Dosti Dance", she thought lovingly. It had been 5 years, 5 whole years since she left those sets behind, 5 years since she left those wonderful memories behind and most importantly, 5 years since she left her best friends behind. All these memories, she had shoved to the back of her mind, because they hurt a lot. D3 was the show which gave her almost everything she could ask for, but it also made her lose many things. Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of those wonderful memories, but whether they were happy tears or sad, she couldn't make out. But then, she remembered his remembered his words to her before she left the sets of D3 forever, "Vrinda! Tujhe toh patha hai na, ki ek cheez pane ke liye ek cheez ko khona padtha hai. D3 has given you the push you need in your life, and its time you make your mark somewhere else. Don't think ki this is the end. Ek din, hum sab theatre mein honge, tumhari acting dekhne ke liye!" he told her, while consoling her.
She smiled through her tears as she remembered him. Shantanu Maheshwari, the best friend anyone could wish for in their life and she was lucky that he was her best friend. He was as sweet as his character Swayam... or maybe sweeter. No one understood the sort of bond she and Shantanu shared. But they did, and they were happy with it. The bond they shared on-screen as bro-sis Swayam and Taani was sort of applicable to them in real life, but it was a blend many bonds. With accordance to time and situation, they were sweet siblings or best of friends or sometimes worst of enemies or even mentors to each other, but at the end of the day, they enjoyed each other's company immensely. They were the inseparable twosome in the sets of D3, as their co-stars often said, but destiny had played its part well in separating this duo. And now, it has been almost 3 years since she had spoken to him.
"Kahan ho yaar tum? Main tumhe bohot miss kar rahi hoon Tannu!" she said, tears pouring down her eyes.
He was the only person who knew her in and out. He knew her much better than she knew herself. The best thing about him was that, he was faultless and that was his fault. He was a gem of a person, someone who could be seen in maybe a book or movie. She still remembered the warm hug he gave her as she entered the sets nervously. He was her first friend on the sets and was the best one. No one could make her happy like he did. Her mind on its own accord wandered to the last day of her shoot in the sets.
~Flashback~
Vrinda was surrounded by the whole cast and crew, showered with goodbyes and kisses and not to forget tears... tears welled up in her eyes too, as she remembered that this was the end of her journey here. Everyone was around her, wishing her luck and feeding her stuffs and waving her bye. All but Shantanu and she was hurt. Here she was, waving goodbye to everyone on her last day, and her supposed bestie didn't even want to say goodbye to her. Angered by his behavior, she went to him...
"Tere ko cholesterol kuch zyada hi hai na?"she asked, sarcasm coated in her voice.
"Arre nahi! Main fit aur healthy hoon, dekh..." he said innocently, to which she would have laughed, if she weren't murderously anger with him.
"Oh just shut up Tannu! Aaj mera last day hai, aur tum mujhse goodbye kehne ke liye bhi nahi aa rahe ho. Kaisa best friend hai tu?" she asked, fresh tears forming in her eyes.
"Offo Vrinda!" he said as he wiped her tears. "Mujhe tere ko goodbye kyun kehna hai? Main tumhe itni aasani se chodne wala nahi hoon. Main tere ko har roz phone karke tease karunga. Aur agar tum chahte ho ya nahi, main tere saath touch mein rahunga. So, mujhe goodbye kehne ke kya zaroorat hai?" he asked, making her smile instantly.
"Tannu! Tu kabhi sudharega nahi na?"she asked, all her unhappiness vanished in a moment.
"No ways! Yeh kaisa sawaal hai?" he asked her, bewildered, making her laugh even more.
"Tannu!!!!" she said in a irritatedly happy tone, giving him a friendly punch in his stomach.
"Anyways, once or twice a month toh, mujhe tere ghar aana hi padega na, classes ke liye."he said in a casual tone, astonishing her very much.
"Class! Kaunsi class?" she asked, totally clueless of what he meant.
"Offo stupid! Garba classes, obviously. Maine kaha tha na, ki mujhe tumse hi garba sikhna hai. Bhool gayi tum itni jaldi?" he asked, in a fake wounded tone.
"Nautanki!" she said, before she gave him a bone-crushing hug again.
~Flashback ends~
Her trance was broken by a sharp knock on the door of her vanity. Surprised, she glanced at her watch. Drat! Her half an hour was already up. It was time to get ready. Before she could get up, came another sharp knock, making her jump, along with a voice which said...
"Oye Miss. Gujju! Kya kar rahi hai andhar? Buck up lazy bones, you just have 10 minutes to get ready." he shouted.
"Coming Siddhu!"she shouted, as she went to the door to let him in.
Sid gave her a frustrated look before he went in. He made himself comfortable on her bed while she started applying her makeup.
"Are you okay Vri?" asked Sid, concern coated in each and every syllable of his.
"Yep... it's just the tiredness." she said, in a matter-of-fact voice.
"Really? Doesn't seem so..." he said.
He knew her too well. Within 2 weeks of the shoot, she and Sid had bonded fine. So fine that they knew and understood each other too well. Just like she did with Shantanu. She sighed as she thought of Shantanu again.
"How long has it been since you spoke to him?"asked Sid, as if he had read her mind.
"What?!!" she asked astonished.
"You are behaving as if I just asked about your love! I didn't mean Amar." he said, with a smile on his face.
"What the hell?!!!!! Tum bhi mujhe Amar ke saath link up kyun kar rahe ho?" she asked, because she had never mentioned about the crush she had on Amar to anyone... anyone except Shantanu.
"Will you answer my question or not?"asked Sid, tapping his foot impatiently.
"3 years... it's been 3 years since I spoke to my Bhai!" she said with a smile, glad to change the topic.
"Vrinda! I don't know why you are not in touch with Shantanu now. I can understand ki tera bohot busy schedule hai, half the time you don't stay in Mumbai, etc, etc... lekin main itna jaanta hoon ki yeh waqt wapas nahi aayega wapas. If you really want to make time for him, then you will get one or the other reason. I think it's high time you talk to him. You'll feel better. Trust me." said Sid, seriously.
"Siddhu! Tujhe patha hai, main tumhare saath itna comfy kaise ban gayi?" she asked.
"Kaise?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
"Kyunki tum bilkul Shantanu ki tarah hi ho. Bohot simple, bohot calm, humble aur..."she was interrupted by Sid.
"Arre bhas kar yaar. Bohot hogaya."he said, amusing her very much.
"Aise situation mein Shantanu bhi yeh hi kahega." she said with a smile on her face.
"Arre meri maa! Agar hum time pe nahi pohunche toh patha Karan kya kahega."said Sid, with a comical look.
"Tum jaao. Main 2 minute mein aajaungi." she assured him.
Sid left, giving her an approving look, because he knew that she is going to do the right thing. Vrinda switched on her mobile and hit the dial button. It was time to make a phone call...
