Chapter 2

"It's so lovely ... the ground covered with the soft white snow carpet .. the trees devoid of leaves yet looking so beautiful with the snowflakes on them giving them the appearance of white tiny flowers …Hmm " she inhaled her hot brewing morning coffee " And the chill breeze and the feathery snow falling soundlessly .. I just love winters " she sighed happily looking out of the window from her grandmother's house ..

"Kria , I am so happy you could make it here " Her grandma said ..

Kria smiled and tried to snuggle more into her over-sized sweater and still pressed her nose on to the window .. yes she felt light and good today .. she couldn't remember after how long she was smiling ..

"You seem to be in good mood .. Last year I really missed you .."

Kria's smile faded a bit as she remembered some of her miserable memories ..

"Grandma ,I was just not in the correct frame of mind .. I really didn't want to trouble you with my problems .." she said without looking at the old lady ..

"Ok so now your problems are alien to me " .. her grandma made a sad pout ..

"No no .. But I just wanted to be alone .. Anyway this time I am here till new year so will have great time together " Kria turned to cheer her grandma .. she was her only relative in India .. her parents were in London .. And her own stubbornness had got her to India .. she had graduated in fashion designing from London .. but she wanted to design Indian clothes as she just loved them .. She came down to Delhi and enrolled herself in a one year course here .. which gave her the opportunity to work in Mumbai later .. She wondered if her decision to come to India was the right one .. If she hadn't come she wouldn't have been nursing a broken heart ..

"Hmm .. I just wish this new year brings you all the happiness you have been seeking in your heart .. " Her grandma's words brought her out of the trance ..

"By the way grandma, has the house opposite to ours , is it sold ? .. I could see a car and yesterday when I came I saw the lights on " she quickly hopped on to another topic ..

"Yes it's bought by a young and handsome writer .. He moved in 6 m back .. and he is still a bachelor .. " She winked

"Writer ?" she enquired raising her brow .. a warning bell going off in her mind ..

"He writes books and he is really helpful " her grandma added ..

Kria didn't give a reaction ..

"He is really nice " Her grandma pestered ..

"Please ... Don't you start your match finding session for me .. I have already told you am not interested "

"I really find him good and .. "

But Kria didn't let her complete the sentence .. She interrupted

"Ya Ya .. every handsome and eligible bachelor seems nice to you .. good to you " she laughed .. "So are you eyeing him ?" she turned the tables on to her grandma who looked miffed at her bold granddaughter's comments ..

As she was going to retort , the door bell rang ..

"You sit , I will see who is it .. " Kria spoke as she got up from her breakfast stool ..

She opened the door only to shudder and flinch back as a strong gust of biting cold wind blew in, But, the wind had little effect compared to the man leaning at the wall in front of her with his lopsided grin ..

Her jaw dropped seeing him .. but her heart .. yes the stupid ridiculous heart performed a couple of back flips just to prove that it was still as unreliable as ever ..

How can he manage to look so devastatingly attractive in something so casual a hooded jacket and jeans .. she wondered ..

More than a year had passed since she left Rey in the blaze of anger and pain ..

By now, for heaven's sake, her body should have learnt its lessons .. but no ..it was a mass of nerves and her mind was jittery blank ..

She was more annoyed with herself than with him. She was so over the whole ridiculous mess of being in love with him. Why couldn't her body at least try to cooperate with this entirely sensible decision?

"Kria who is it ?" her grandma asked from inside ..

She was still in a state of shock to even hear her grandma ..

"It's me Rey , granny .. " He said coolly as he walked past Kria inside the house

"Oh Reyaansh . What a pleasant surprise early in the morning " she smiled

"Well I got you a Christmas tree , you wanted to decorate one ,right ?" as he kept the tree in the living room ..

"Thank you so much " as she came in the living room .. , He helped her in her rocking chair and gently kissed her hand ..

"The pleasure is all mine .."

"And before I forget I hope the heater is not giving you any trouble .. " he asked with concern ..

"No after you had a look , it's working perfectly fine .." she looked gratefully at him ..

All this while Kria was standing still holding the door .. she was just staring and listening to the conversation between Rey and her grandma ..

"Oh Kria I forgot to introduce you , " Her grandma saw the confused look on her face .. "This is Reyaansh and she is my granddaughter Kria , she is a fashion designer and a very successful one too " Her grandma beamed and Kria simply made a face and settled next to her grandma ..

Rey smiled .. "Hi Kria .. " Kria simply nodded and looked away from him , then he looked at her grandmother and said " we met yesterday when her car got struck in the snow .. "

"Great so you both have met .. and didn't I tell you that he is very helpful .. " her grandma stressed on the word helpful a bit more ..

"Hmm " Kria gave a least interested remark and got busy sipping her coffee ..

"Would you like to have coffee , Reyaansh .. ? " her grandma asked much to the irritation of Kria who would have loved to drive him away from the house as soon as possible ..

"Sure would love to if Kria makes it " he immediately said and sat on the sofa .

Kria scowled and left for the kitchen .. she could hear both of them laughing merrily and having a good conversation .. she wondered how does Rey know her grandma that too so well .. he seems to have been coming home quite often .. but she was in no mood to ask him and lead a conversation with him .. she wanted to keep him far away from her ..

"Kria he is the one who bought the house opposite to ours ... " her grandma said when she kept the coffee mug on the center table .. she almost dropped the tray hearing this .. but composed herself and sat on her chair ..

"Yes ..of course .. he is a rich man .. " she said sardonically ..

"This coffee is really good " Rey smiled without being affected by Kria's words .. which irked her to no end ..

"Granny , I actually came to invite you for dinner at my place .. on Christmas eve .. " he said in his honey dipped sweet voice and that nauseating smile on his lips .. even though he was not looking nor addressing Kria , she just couldn't pull herself away from the urge to look at him ..

"Thank you .. but I can't come .. My oldies group , we have decided to meet and go to the church for the mass .. "

"Ok , no problem , but you take care of your health , ok ?" he made such a sad face but his concern for her grandma's health was genuine .. Kria narrowed her brows and looked at him curiously ..

"We can do one thing .. Kria can come .. " her grandma said ..

Kria almost jumped at her place … "No .. never " she hadn't meant to but it came out in a very rude manner ..

Her grandma was confused at Kria's reaction .. whereas Rey just gave a sweet smile ..

Kria felt a bit uneasy too .. "Well I didn't mean it that way .. I can't come as I am busy .. "

"Kria .. your grandma said that you were very fascinated by that house .. you wanted to see the inside of that house .. but since it was locked by the owner , you couldn't .. so maybe you could come for that reason .. " Rey again spoke in his smooth and yet confident voice ..

Kria was shocked .. she glared at her grandma .. how can she tell things about her ..

And her grandma instead of being guilty took Rey's side .. "What a charming young man Kria , he wants to show you his house .. it's beautiful , I have seen it .. I am sure you will love it .. "

Kria gave a sinister laugh and said "Yes , he can charm any and every woman who comes in front of him , he is such a professional "

"What " Her grandma asked in surprise and confusion ..

"I mean he is a writer ... So he has a way with words .. that's what I meant " she seemed flustered as she answered her grandma .. she had never been this kind of a girl who spoke this way .. she realized that this last one year had made her like that .. she had learnt her lessons too well .. she had become this glum and sulking girl from the happy go lucky and smiling girl .. a girl who would love to bring a smile on other's face had turned so rude and cynical ..

And all her rudeness was now being directed on Rey .. but to her surprise he seemed to be unaffected by her comments .. he simply smiled mischievously at her grandma and said "Maybe I need to try harder to charm your granddaughter even for a dinner " and gave one of his infections laughter ..

"Whatever .. My answer is going to be a NO " Kria said while walking off to her room ..

"I just came to give you your cell , it was lying in the living room " Rey said as he knocked and entered her room ..

She turned in a shock to see him lock the door behind him ..

"Rey , I don't want to talk to you .. nor see your bloody face .. so please just get out from here " it hurt her immensely to push him away from her .. but yes she had done that once .. she can do it again .. she made all her effort to let her bitterness out as she snatched her cell from him and stood at a distance from him..

He just stood at the spot and looked at her whereas she tried her best to avoid those melting eyes because only she knew how dangerous it was to look into them and not get drowned .. she wondered what was going thru his mind because he seemed to contemplating about what he was about to say ..

Finally when her patience was running out , he spoke softly .. "Kria .. "

He had just called her name which seemed to wrap around her in a seductive coil and she forgot all her defenses and looked into those spellbinding eyes ..

His gaze met hers .. his eyes more intense than she had ever seen .. she could feel the tension building up in the room .. There was almost a foot of space separating them and he made no effort to close the gap, but she felt his physical presence as powerfully as if he'd put his arms around her and dragged her against his body …

"Kria .. I know what happened between us can't be changed or reversed .. "

"What I want to do is just try to bring all the shattered pieces together and for that I have waited for you for more than an year .. "

"Damit !!! I have literally hunted you .. you just cut me off from you .. you wouldn't see me .. you wouldn't answer my calls .. and then you threatened to get a court order against me for harassment…"

"What choice did you leave me? I couldn't trust you anymore .. and there was nothing left between us .. You were harassing me…" she realized that her tears had spilled from her eyes ..

"I am sorry , Kria " he said unblinkingly and she didn't know when he had moved forward towards her .. it was only when she felt his thumbs brush gently against her eyelids, and then she felt the wet of her own tears on his fingers , did she realize that he was so close to her ..

Hell !!! she was through with crying over this man! She jerked away from him but he put his arms around her and pulled her hard against him …

She felt torn between a burst of anger and a sensual response .. but her anger took over her body and she pushed him with all her might .. "Don't you dare touch me .. " she gritted her teeth ..

His comeback shocked her wits out …

"I will .. and I will do everything which you wanted me to do earlier and I never did .. " his voice hoarse and angry .. his eyes blazing with desire ..

For a moment her mind went blank with fear as she recollected one of their conversations ..

"Reyyy" Kria sang and flew into his arms when she saw him standing in her living room when she opened her front door ..

"Surprise .. " Rey gathered her tightly into his embrace and lovingly kissed her hair ..

"I love you .. " she said happily nuzzling into his chest ..

"I love you too … " and he cupped her face in his palms and gave her a long bone crashing kiss to which she instantly responded smiling into his kiss …

As they broke their kiss to gasp a few breaths .. he made her sit on the sofa next to him ..

"So how come you got time now for me .. that too weekends .. ?" she asked teasingly ..

"Come on Kria .. I am sorry .. I know I was busy .. but as soon as I got some free time .. I came here .. " he winked ..

"Ya ya .. I know .. to bring a smile on this poor Kria's face " she made a sad pout .. made her eyes droopy and twitched her nose ..

"Kria .. aren't you happy that I came .. " he asked a bit concerned ..

She immediately whacked him on his head "Of course I am .. you Idiot .. " she smiled .. "I was just joking .. "

He sighed ..

"So did you get something for me ?" she asked like a small child ..

"Well .. I was in such a hurry to meet you .. that I forgot .. " he ran his fingers thru his hair and gave an apologetic look ..

She turned her face away ..

"Ok ok .. See .. next month is your b'day .. I will get you whatever you want .. Pakka .. Please now don't be angry " he said softly ..

She immediately perked and gave him one of her best smiles .. and then pecked on his cheeks ..

"You know Rey .. you are so easy to fool .. I just have to pout and make a sad face and you immediately do what I say " she said laughing ..

"But .. I like to do that .. " he said earnestly .. not getting her joke ..

"I thought you write stories .. scripts for movies , tv shows .. you know you would be like those filmy heroes .. "

"What do you mean ?" he asked confused ..

"You know .. dramatic entry .. then some great dialogues to impress me .. or some action to make me gasp and make my heart beat go wild .. " she stood up to show him some moves .. she opened her arms in typical Sharukh Khan style .. then pulled him close to her .. with her index finger lifted his chin a bit .. and took out a manly voice "I love you KKKria " his eyes almost popped out seeing her act like that ..

Then she held his waist and gave him a dip and raised her one brow exuding sexiness ..

Instead of being aroused by her antics .. he seemed to be suppressing his laughter ..

She just dropped him when she saw that he was mocking her ..

"Ouch " he sat on the floor and started laughing ..

"You know Rey .. you are pathetic .. " she miffed and sat on the sofa taking the pillow in her hands ..

"You don't know anything .. it would be so seductive ..if you came looking intensely into my eyes .. and pin me to the wall .. and then kiss me as if you are hungry for ages .. you bit my lips so hard that they bleed and drink those drops of blood .. then push yourself onto my soft body crushing me .. or just .. or pick me in your arms .. no no .. put me over your shoulders and take me to the room .. you know how they do in movies .. Wow " she kept saying lost in her own thoughts and fantasizing and getting aroused by her own emotions .. her pillow almost crushed to an uneven shape ..

Rey looked at her with amusement .. He came close to her .. "Kria .. why should I do all this .. ?"

She blinked her eyes to look at him confused .. "What do you mean .. why ?"

"See .. when you see me .. you literally fly into my arms .. when its so good to kiss your soft delicious lips gently why should I hurt you .. why should I force myself on you when we can do the same things with love .. ?" he asked innocently and took her into his arms .. she simply sighed and relaxed against his chest … her fantasies would just remain fantasies only ..

She came out of the trance when Rey's head lowered and his mouth touched hers, softly at first and then with all the passion pent up during the 1 year of separation…

It didn't even take him a second to evoke a response from her …

She felt a series of emotions going through her ..

Anger .. because she apparanetly still couldn't resist Rey

Sensual Desire .. because she was an idiot who had spent the last one year yearning to be made love by this man who she didn't trust ..

Humiliation .. , it seemed he only needed to take her into his arms and her protective cover was blown away.. she was such a fool …

She felt Rey grasping her waist firmly almost making her gasp into his mouth .. maybe he knew that her knees were melting .. she found him playing and twining his fingers into her hair as his tongue searched deep into her mouth and his body pressed hard against hers .. giving her no chance to breathe or think ..

Maybe he knew how to play down her walls .. because she forgot everything .. her anger .. her questions .. her doubts and above all his betrayal .. as she was swept by the heat and the strength of passion of the man who was kissing her as if his life depended on her response ..

Her desire intensified and she met his urgent demands .. she had craved for his touch in these times of separation and had often wondered if he had also experienced a sense of perpetual emptiness .. and as he kissed her , she knew he had ..

When they broke apart, there was no point in trying to pretend that nothing had happened.

She had just provided irrefutable evidence to herself and to him of the fact that she was still physically attracted to him...

She felt disoriented, and no doubt looked thoroughly aroused…

He held her shoulders to steady her .. and then looked deeply in her eyes .. "I will be waiting for you at 7 pm .. Still there are 3 more days for the dinner .. I won't call you or meet you .. but if you don't turn up at my place .. "

His tone was icy and his look was that of if he was challenged he could go to any extent ..

Kria literally fluttered her eyelashes in alarm ..

"I will put you over my shoulders and then take you to my house .. " he completed it with an undeniable confidence ..

As he closed the door behind him .. she stamped her feet in anger .. "I won't go .. " she exhaled furiously ..

Suddenly the door opened .."Yes you will come , sweetheart .." he smiled and left ..
