Chapter 4
Connor
Something
is changing in her. Luna, I mean. She, she's not slow anymore. She's
super fast, almost up to the point where you can't see her, cause she's
so fast. Believe me, I know it sounds crazy. Also, she's getting really
beautiful. Her skin is almost translucent. Yeah, that's how pale she
looks. In a ghostly way, she's really beautiful. And her eyes are
getting even more purple. Or is it just me? I know it sounds weird
coming from her best friend, but it's only the truth. Sharp cheekbones
and white teeth. Long lashes that match with her dark hair. Oh my god,
am I falling for her?
No,
of course not, that's ridiculous! We've been best friends ever since we
were born. Of course I am a year older than her. Oh god, I gotta talk
to somebody. Is it just me or is she really changing into something
that's not of this world? Normal humans just don't look like her. And
now with this whole being fast thing, it's really, you know, just
weirding me out. She looks like a ... an angel. That's the only way to
describe it. It's not just her beauty, you know? It's something else. I
can't quite put my finger on it, but I get a weird feeling that her
changing is not yet done.
Of course, I wouldn't let our friendship die just because of this. We're almost like siblings, you know?
I
lay on my bed, trying to finish my history homework, when my cell phone
rang. I looked at the clock and it was almost 12. Who would call this
late? I looked at the caller ID and it was Luna. Hm, weird.
"Hey,
looney, what's up?" looney was my nickname for her. I had made it up
when we were little. I know it's such a stupid name and I only call her
that because she hated the name so much. But to my surprise, she was
hysterical on the other end. She was crying.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" I asked her, now getting a little concerned. She took a big breath
and then cleared her throat.
"My
mom was in an accident and I'm at the hospital right now. She's in the
ER. I'm so scared," she said really fast. Then she started crying
again. Oh my god, her mom in an accident. I gotta do something.
"Oh, baby, I'm so sorry, I'll be right there, what hospital?" I asked, while getting dressed.
I hung up the phone, told my mom what happened and she offered to drive me there.

When
we finally got there, Luna was in the waiting room. She was the only
one there. She was wearing jeans, converse and a cotton t-shirt.
Apparently, she had stopped crying. I rushed over to her and we hugged.
She looked tired and sad.
"What happened?" I asked
"She was coming home from work right? She was driving, but some idiot ran through red light and ... and ..." she trailed off.
"Where is she now?"
"The
doctors are operating on her right now, I'm so scared, what if
something happens?" she asked me and with that her eyes filled with
tears again. I hugged her tightly and told her everything was going to
be all right. And we waited like that for about an hour, before Luna's
aunt arrived. Aunt Clara was the only relative they had. It was so sad.
"Oh,
baby, are you ok?" she asked Luna as she pulled her in for a hug.
"Connor, so good to see you again, though I had not imagined it would
be like this," she said sadly. She said hello to my mother and said
that we should go home.
"No,
no, we'll stay, we don't mind," said my mother. She knew how close Luna
and I were. Besides, she herself was Elizabeth's close friend.
"No,
I really don't wanna cause trouble, please, thank you so much but I'd
rather that you guys go home," Aunt Clara insisted, but my mom was just
as stubborn. In the end we got to stay.
Just then a doctor came out.
"A close family member to Elizabeth
Jones?" he asked. He was a tall guy with thin glasses.
"I'm her sister," Aunt Clara stood up, " and this is her daughter," she pointed to Luna
"Just you, then please," then they walked away to a corner.
"Oh god, what do you think had happened?" asked Luna
"Don't worry, dear, your mother's will to live is strong. I'm sure of it," said my mother
Chapter 5
Luna
God,
what was taking them so long? I was itching to know what they were
talking about, but I couldn't hear anything. They were too far away.
All of a sudden, the world went spinning. Everything was a blur. I
thought maybe I was going to faint, but I didn't. I looked at Connor
and he was looking at me with a serene expression. So he doesn't see
it, then it's just me? Then suddenly everything was back to normal.
Well not exactly normal, cause now I could hear what they were talking
about. Perhaps, they were talking loudly now or maybe I was closer to
them.
"So, she will be able to walk?" Aunt Clara said
"Yes,
but it will take some time for her to heal. She was after all in a very
bad accident. Leg broken in two places, concussion and internal
bleeding aren't exactly counted as minor." the doctor was saying. Then
Aunt Clara turned around to look at me with the strangest expression. I
looked away, sensing that Aunt Clara knew about me hearing their convo.
I looked at Connor and he whispered wondering what they were talking
about. Then he couldn't hear it. Great, now I was the freak who could
hear for miles. Just then Aunt Clara thanked the doctor and walked back
our way. She was smiling. I pretended that I didn't just hear what they
were talking about. Though I was astonished at my ability. How did I do
that? She told us what I'd just heard, minus her injuries. No details.
Just that she was going to have to stay in the hospital for a month or
two.
"Can I see her now?" I asked the doctor
"I
don't think so, she's resting. The operation just ended so she's very
weak now. I suggest you guys should all leave and get some rest
yourself," with that the doctor walked off.
Aunt Clara was going to live with me while mom was at the hospital. Awesome.
