CHAPTER 16

"So when are we going to see her?" She asked Angad. She kept a smile on her face, still thinking of her old memories with her long lost friend. Her smile was different, Angad noticed. Tension rose through her body, she had too much going on at once. She needed to clear her head.

"Who? Saira…"

"Yeah, her and Mahek. I haven't seen her since…"

"Me and her broke up and she left you when your mom died…" Angad said quite insensitively. She remembered when and why she had left her, he didn't need to say it like that. That was exceptionally discourteous, she thought. She suddenly got quiet, Angad noticed the impromptu silence which filled the room, and guilt sank through him settling at his ankles. He felt bad about reminding her of her mother, especially at a time she would already be experiencing her absence.

"Kripa…" He put his arm around her waist.

"Its okay, Angad. Stop apologizing for everything," she laughed a fake gingerly laugh. She punched him lightly in the arm. She seriously felt bad about Angad apologizing so much; this was the man that never said please, thank you, or sorry. And now, she, Kripa Sharma had him saying it after every other sentence.

"Oh…" was all Angad could think of saying, he wish he could have came up with something a little more comforting.

"Angad…" she said, sounding a bit more cheery.

"Yeah?" He asked, trying to match her tone.

"Let's go shopping." She said cheerily.

"Great, just what I need, for my girlfriend to spend my hard-earned money." Angad and Kripa exchanged glances before bursting into laughter over the words hard earned.

They drove to the mall, with the music blasted in the car. She listened to Angad sing stupidly on the top of his lungs.

Take a look at my girlfriend! She's the only one I got!
Not much of a girlfriend! I never seem to get a lot

It's been some time since we last spoke,
This is gonna sound like a bad joke,
But momma, I fell in love again.
It's safe to say, I have a new girlfriend.
And I know it sounds so old,
But cupid got me in a chokehold
And I'm afraid I might give in
I think it's time that I let my friend get his wave in.

I mean she even cooks me pancakes
And Alka Seltzer when my tummy aches
If that aint love, then I don't know what love is
We even got a secret handshake
And she loves the music that my band makes
I know I'm young, but if I had to chose her over the sun
I'd be one nocturnal son of a gun

Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got!!!
Before he could get to the second line of the chorus, Kripa interrupted, "Yeah, I BETTER be the only one you got." She laughed.

"Oh, you're right. This song doesn't describe me at all." He changed the track.

Ima flirt,
Soon as I see her walk up in the club,
Ima flirt,
Winkin eyes at me when I roll up on dem dubs Ima flirt
Sometimes when im wit my chick on the low Ima flirt
And when shes wit her man lookin at me damn right Ima flirt
So homie dont bring your girl to me to meet cause Ima flirt
And baby dont bring your girlfriend to eat cause Ima flirt
Please believe it unless your game is tight and you trust herrrrr
Then dont bring her round me cause Ima flirt

Kripa laughed and laughed. Angad would have joined her if he had not been on the interstate.
"Oh yeah, what bout me?" She began singing. "Oh God, Kripa, not that!!!!" Angad wished he could cover his ears, but he had to handle the wheel.

Midnight creeps so slowly into hearts of those who need more than they get,
Daylight deals a bad hand to a penguin that has laid too many bets,
The mirror stares you in the face and says baby uh-uh it don't work,
You say your prayers though you don't care,
You sing and shake the hurt off!!!!!!!!

"If you sing another line from that dumb Happy Feet song, then I will…" Angad began to threaten. She looked at him questionably.

"Then I won't take you to the mall, we'll go somewhere else."

"Bring it!" Kripa said as she finally sang, "MAMBO! Boogie Wonderland!" They had gotten off the interstate and were on a minor light, so Angad thought the most obvious way of shutting Kripa up. He leaned over the side and closed his mouth over hers. She blushed slightly before her playful anger returned. She pushed him away.

"Hey, that's not fair! Angad!!!" Kripa whined. He took a sharp U-turn. "Where are we going?" Kripa asked, Angad smirked.

"Not the mall. Muhahahahaha" He chuckled, imitating a typical villain. They got on the Interstate again.

"Okay, Angad. We're going out of city limits, where are we going?" She bit her nails nervously.

"DELHI!" He said happily. It was a random thought, but we might as well he thought. Mumbai to Delhi, nice road trip he contemplated.

"WHAT?!" Kripa almost, jumped out of the car. "Are you crazy?! What about work?! And school?! And exams!? Angad, I am so damn close to getting my degree, I am not dropping out now! Take me home!"

"Chill Kripa. We'll be home in a day or two. It's only…a couple hours drive. It'll be fun. It'll be US time, time to clear our minds. What do you say?" He grinned expectantly. She frowned at him, he frowned back.

"If you want, I'll take you home." He said in a depressed tone, Kripa thought where was home anyways. Where her dad was? Was it where no one remembered her dead mom and sister, or Angad's house? If her home was Angad, then she might as well be with Angad here too. She smiled.

"Let's go."

"Really?" He smiled. She nodded back. "Yeah, we only have 700 miles to go. So speed it up bub!"

"Enjoy the drive, Kripa. You're such a bore."

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Hey Delhi's got some really nice shopping complexes you know."

"God, still thinking about shopping?" She nodded happily. The rest of the car ride was just playful conversation, flirting, and fun little arguments. It was fun, but not that fun that I'd give you all details. (Hehe.)

Night fell quick enough and Kripa's cell phone rang and she happily picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Dude Kripa, where did you disappear with my brother?" Kartik said on the other line.

"We're on a road trip?" She said unsure, she could imagine Kartik gasping. Infact, she think she heard him.

"Who is this?" Kartik said, unbelieving.

"Angad's girlfriend, but you know handsome maybe later me and you could…" she said seductively. Angad looked at her with a mocking hurt look, as if he had just been punched.

"Angad's girlfriend?" Kartik said thoughtfully, "You must be new, but hey if you're hot it works for me."

"It's me, Kripa. I'm anything but new. I'm sorry we had to leave our plans of eloping, but your oh-so-sexy brother talked me into this crazy going to New Delhi business." Kripa said flirtatiously.

Kartik returned the tone, "Oh well, it's quite okay. We both know which one of us you really want…"

"Of course, you're so much cuter than your brother. Much more sex appeal, might I add. And you make money, I've always liked lawyers."

"Oh well, as long as you're still up for grabs, you know I'm all yours babe." Kartik laughed, Kripa noticed his laugh was deeper than Angad's.

"Oh, I'm always available for you, Kartik. My boyfriend looks as if he's ready to burn a hole through us, would you like to talk to him?" She smiled.

"Of course darling." Kripa smiled at his reply and handed Angad the phone.

"What the hell man? Don't you know how to talk to someone else's girl?" Angad fumed over the phone. Kartik laughed on the other end.

"Whatever little bro. When are you and my…i mean YOUR girlfriend coming back?"

"Don't screw round wit me, Kartik. Eh. Next week, can you handle maa and papa?...Thanks. Bye."

"You and him, Kripa…" he saw Kripa's smiling face and knew she did this on purpose, he sighed. She loved seeing him jealous but he hated being jealous. "Never mind."

"Angad…" She giggled, he turned to look at her. "You know I love you?"

He sighed again, "I know."

She smiled waiting, "And?"

"And I wish you'd stop flirting with my brother." Kripa huffed. She got out of the car. They stopped at a hotel to stay the night. Angad happily followed at her heels.

They both stopped at the reception desk, a large smiling woman in a Benarasi sari sat there.

"I want a room." Kripa signed the register and took the keys. Angad did the same; Kripa looked at him with disbelief. She took the key from his hand and pushed his key back to the woman.

"One room will be fine thank you." Angad looked at her wide-eyed. She went in the room and plopped down on the bed. Angad followed her in, and sat far on the sofa near the window, he stared at Kripa scared, as if she were a mad woman.

"Ufff, Angad it's been a long day. Don't wake me tomorrow. I'll wake myself at noon." She lifted her head to look at him. "You're not sleepy?"

"Ummm Kripa baby, darling, sweetheart? Am I gonna sleep on the same bed as you?"

She nodded as if she had just answered what color a stop sign was. Angad nodded his head and let out a small 'oh.' He laid gingerly beside her, she tossed and turned in her spot. The lights were out.

"Kripa." Angad said annoyed, "Stop moving."

"Sorry? I can't sleep anymore…" Kripa said immaturely.

He sighed, "Me neither." She turned on the light, and chirped "Want coffee?"

"If we drink coffee, we surely won't be able to sleep." Angad said. Kripa shrugged. "You drink coffee and I'll drink this." He said, pulling out a bottle of Smirnoff.

"Vodka?" Kripa asked. Angad nodded. "I want some too!" Kripa whined.

"No no no, honey. You cannot handle this stuff. This is HARD liquor."

"I can TOO handle it." Kripa whimpered, she grinned happily and clapped her hands together as if gesturing a brilliant idea.

"Let's play a game." she beamed.

"What?" Angad groaned.

"A game. Like truth or dare, only it'll be truth or drink. And we'll ask the question first and then you can choose whether you'd rather answer or drink." she looked at him smiling. He shrugged.

"I'll start. Who was your first kiss?" Angad rolled his eyes. "Like I even remember, Kripa." He grabbed the bottle and drank straight out of the bottle, making sure not to consume too much.

"Okay Kripa." he smirked, he was thinking of something to ask when Kripa stopped him.

"WAIT!" Kripa said. "This is boring, let's add DARE to the list, Truth, Dare, or Drink."

"Fine with me. So Kripa, Truth, Dare, or Drink?" he grinned evilly.

"Dare." She said boldly.

"Take your clothes off." he said calmly. She looked at him as if he were crazy before she began to pull the shirt over her head.

"Whoa! I was kidding! Kripa…" She sighed a breath of relief as she sat down. "Okay I dare you to put instant coffee in this vodka and drink it." She smiled at him. She poured herself half a glass of clear liquid and put two tablespoons of Folgers morning blend in it. She swallowed it whole, it was gritty and hot down her and she wrinkled her throat as she felt the fire spreading to her stomach.

She coughed, "Ew." Angad threw his head back laughed wholly. She smiled while still coughing.

"Wow Kripa, I thought you'd be way more…"

"Boring?" she asked.

"No, straight edge. But that too. My turn. Truth."

"Where are we REALLY going?" Kripa asked seriously. Her eyes were slightly red, affect of the alcohol perhaps. He looked down and took the bottle.

"Your turn, Kripa." he said returning to her normal self.

"Truth."

"Would you marry me?"

"Yes."

"Will you marry me?"

"Yes."

"No. Kripa, listen." He got off the bed and got on one knee and pulled a ring from his pocket. "I love you Kripa Sharma, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?"

She laughed back tears. This particular moment would have been more special she didn't have the bitter taste of coffee and vodka in her mouth. Smiling, she shook her head with vigor. Angad smiled at her and slid the ring on her finger.

"So now what? I'm thoroughly drunk and now engaged, what shall we do now Angad?"

"Sleep?" Angad asked innocently. Kripa looked at him angrily.

"Are you going gay on me or something?! It's been five hours and you haven't even touched me." She put her hands on her hips, which were cocked to the side.

"I didn't know I was allowed to…"

"Well you are." She said putting her hands up.

"You're drunk, Kripa. I'll wait till you're sober." Kripa huffed at him, and took the bottle and took a chug. Angad sighed, taking the vodka away from Kripa. "You've had very well enough."

"No! I want more, you can't stop me." Angad looked at her drunken state. "I won't get a hangover tomorrow morning, I promise. I had the coffee beforehand." She grinned stupidly.

"Let's get you sober, okay honey? You wanna go somewhere, for a walk maybe…brings the alcohol down in your blood." Kripa slapped her hands on her cheeks sitting down. "Anything for you, baby." Angad wanted to laugh at her, but he could save that till morning. He gave her a coat and left, after stepping out of the door, she threw the coat behind her shoulder, "ANGAD IT'S HOT!"

"It's about to snow, Kripa. Wear your coat." Angad said, sounding tired. It was true that he also felt the influence, but being a former party animal it took so more than half a bottle of vodka to get him drunk.

"It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes!!!!" Kripa sang on the top of her lungs. Angad slapped his head when he saw she was about ready to actually take her clothes off.

"God, Kripa you're such a stripper." Angad murmured under his breath.

"I am not! It's just I can't seem to keep my clothes on around you," She said half-drunk, half-seductive.

"We're in public darling. Keep the show for private." He said winking at her. Kripa gasped angrily. They walked until Kripa said.

"Hey Angad, where are we? Look, look!! It looks like he knows where we are." She walked up to a not-so-friendly-looking biker dude covered in tattoos, he was large and bearded and Kripa went up to him.

"Hello mister. Do you, by any chance, know where we are?" She said sweetly, still sounding drunk. The man smiled (which was scary) and pointed to a sign behind him that read "H&D Bike Stop and Pool Hall."

Kripa gasped happily. "A biker BAR!" Angad looked mortified. He heard the stress on the word, bar.

"Kripa let's go home." Angad said pulling her arm, "It's not safe here."

"Angad come on. Look, the people here look nice." She said pointing to a group of tattooed bikers smoking. She coughed smelling the smoke and added, "Nice enough." She walked carelessly into the edifice. Angad followed her sighing.

~PREVIEW: The rest of Kripa and Angad's drunken night, Kripa sure does some crazy stuff when she's got vodka in her system. LOL. A break-up, followed by a hook-up. More on Angad's daughter, and whatever happened to Mahek anyways? ~
