CHAPTER 17
"Hi guys!" Kripa yells happily, while walking into the dark building. It was poorly lit but decorated quite stylishly. The people in the bar, though all bikers could recognize a good spirit when they saw one. They were essentially okay people.

"HEY!" A group of large men yelled back, happily.

"I'm Kripa." She said, sitting at the bar. She looked to three men, as they smiled and introduced themselves.

"This is Snuff, I'm Crusher and this is Flick." He said in a happy tough guy voice. Kripa frowned.

"What did your mother name you?" She asked, hand on hips.

The three took turns answering, looking down, "Aditya." said the man closest to Kripa. "Uday." said the next man, the last and largest man coughed out, "Abhinav."

Kripa gasped in drunken delight, "THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND'S NAME TOO!" Angad had been on the other side of the bar, just chilling with a beer. Until that is, he heard Kripa's loud drunken voice.

The men began laughing mockingly, "Hey! I'm not kidding that's my boyfriend's name too! Here he comes, Angad!!!!" He sighed, coming to her side.

"What about my name, Kripa?" He sighed. Kripa kissed him hard on the mouth, "Baby, your whole name please."

He recited with boredom, "Angad Abhinav Khanna. Happy? Did you drink some more, Kripa?" He asked concerned. She nodded violently and said, "No…Nope. Nope." She giggled as she pulled close to whisper, "A little."

"Kripa, let's go…this was a bad idea. We're going home." Kripa nodded like a child hearing instructions from a professor. She smiled, when she arose to walk, much to Angad's surprise she was unable to walk in a straight line. She tripped a little to the left and then to the right.

She stopped and looked at Angad. "Angad, I need help." She managed to say. He sighed and rolled his eyes as he carelessly picked her up, throwing her across his shoulder. She rested her chin on his shoulder blade. They walked back to the hotel. Angad put Kripa down gently on the bed, she had fallen asleep. He pushed the hair out of her face and kissed her gently on her lips. He pulled the covers over her before retiring to bed beside her.

True to her word, Kripa woke herself at noon. She found Angad beside her; she smiled before a powerful throbbing occurred to her temples. "OW…" She said loudly. Angad woke up, "Good morning to you too."

"What happened?" Kripa asked innocently.

"What happened? Oh, you mean why do you have a hangover? You don't remember anything about last night?" Angad smiled, remembering her stupidity. Kripa looked down at her finger, it had no ring. Had it been a dream? She frowned.

"No, that's why I asked."

"Well we played Truth, Dare, or Drink. We had some vodka, and then we took a walk to a biker bar where you got VERY drunk. Then I carried you home…" Angad smiled warmly. He was stressed, did she not remember anything at all. If she had been drunk when she said yes to marry him then…

"That's it?" Kripa brooded. He nodded; he didn't want to remind her of anything she did in a drunken state, including him proposing. Angad wished she remembered.

"So…that's it?" Kripa said. Say it you idiot.

"Yup." She doesn't remember.

"So you're still only my boyfriend?" Kripa murmured quietly despite herself.

"No!" he said happily. "You remember?"

"Well you did propose to me, and I did say yes so duh, I'd remember." Kripa said annoyed.

"I thought you were drunk!" He exclaimed, "I was!" She responded.

"Oh." he said, frowning. Kripa noticed him frown. "But I still would've said yes even if I wasn't." He was relieved until another thought struck him.

"Where's your ring?" he asked, looking at her hand.

She looked around frantically, and sighed when she found it in the mess of sheets on the bed. She smiled and handed it to him, and he simply slid it on her finger again. She smiled at the glimmering diamond.

"Angad, I love you." She threw her arms around him. He rested his arms around her waist. "I love you too, Kripa." He pulled away abruptly, "We better go though, if we wanna get on the road, we got to get there before traffic." Kripa nodded. They checked out and sat in the car. Angad turned the radio on, and Kripa turned it off soon after.

"Why are we going to Delhi, Angad?" Kripa asked. She finally let out a question that had been eating at her inside since last night. She sighed and had let it go the night before, but she couldn't handle the oblivion any longer.

"We're going to pick someone from the airport," He said disappointed. "You ruined my surprise."

"What surprise?" Kripa asked. Kripa knew for Angad, there was always a reason to his madness. Even in all the random doings, always a reason. Sometimes he didn't know why he did things himself, but nonetheless he always had a cause for everything.

"Gemma is visiting India, I was gonna surprise you. I and she had been planning this since last month." Angad said in disdain. Kripa gasped as her face lit up.

Gemma was the only family she had left, she was the daughter of her Aunt (Smiti Maussi) and that was all she had left. She had never been close to her father, and her aunt had been like a second mother to her always, and Gemma was like her sister. Smiti had been disowned by her parents long ago for marrying out of, not only her religion but race too. She had married a charming man named Charles at age 20, and Gemma was their daughter. Raised an Indian, she was anything but British. Looks were deceiving though, her bright green eyes and curly mass of red hair made her seem a tourist. But when she opened her mouth, Hindi and patriotism for her country came out. She had hated India for the 17 years she lived there but when her parents separated and she moved to England, she found she hated London more. She missed India so much; India was where her heart was. And an Indian was who her love was.

"GEMMA'S COMING?!" Kripa exclaimed. She hugged Angad who smiled, keeping his eyes on the road. Angad glanced to and back from Kripa, who sat there in amazement. He could tell she was planning what she could say to Gemma when she got here. He knew the ride home, he'd be the odd ball out, not knowing Gemma at all but it was okay. He could do anything to make Kripa happy. Angad had only spoken to Gemma once or twice on the phone, but he knew Kripa and her were practically sisters. As Kripa planned, Angad turned the radio on…this was how he was going to spend the next couple of hours. The got to Delhi at 5 o'clock, and immediately went to the airport. The flight was to arrive at 6. Kripa insisted on going an hour early. He sat, admiring Kripa as she excitedly talked about Gemma. He wasn't listening, she knew. It was one of those times, Kripa talked just to hear her voice and pass time.

At the pick-up area, Kripa saw at a distance an ivory-skinned girl come step closer holding some red luggage. She was some 100 feet away but Kripa screamed on the top of her lungs, "GEMMA!!!!!!!!!" The girl smiled and quickened her pace, as she walked closer. Instantly, she threw her bags down and hugged Kripa. She was quite a few inches taller than Kripa, and impeccably thin. And strong, in embrace she actually picked Kripa up.

"Gem, I missed you so much! And this is…" She began pointing to Angad.

"Your boyfriend, Angad." Gemma completed. She looked him up and down. "Good taste, Kripa." Angad grinned wide; he was used to getting compliments.

"Pssht, he's not my boyfriend!" Kripa said casually. Angad and Gemma looked at her unbelieving. Kripa brought her finger up, flashing the diamond. She whispered in Gemma's ear, "He's my fianc."

Gemma looked at her delight, "Congrats." She hugged and they screamed pointlessly for minutes. After a long talk, they decided to head toward home. They got luggage and began the drive back to Mumbai.

"So Gem what happened to that boy you was courting in college at London University? You never did tell me his name." Kripa asked. Gemma frowned.

"He graduated and went back home. He lives around here, I think. But never mind him, he never kept in contact. We didn't break up, he just kind of…"

"Left..." Kripa completed.

"bas***d." Angad said under his breath. Kripa smiled at his sensitive-protective nature.

"Aw, don't say that. I'm sure he had a reason. I mean, I'm mad too. I loved him but I guess he didn't back…Kripa's told me you've broken a few hearts in your time too, Angad." Angad smiled, Kripa talked about him. A lot, he noted.

"A few? More like a few thousand. And he's going to break a couple thousand more when he disappoints the girls of the world by marrying me." Kripa beamed. Angad was amused by Kripa, he drove quietly.

"Angad, we still got to go shopping." Kripa said, noticing his smile. The smile was wiped off his face.

"Aw man, Kripa!" Angad said. He took the nearest exit; he knew there was no avoiding it. They walked into a store and Kripa saw Angad muttering something under his breath. She smiled and stood on her tip-toes to kiss him. "Two outfits max, I promise." Angad looked at her nodded. Her and Gemma got a pile of random clothes and took it to the fitting room.

Gemma talked to Kripa as she struggled to get into a pear of jeans. Finally she gave up and changed her shirt instead.

"Cute tattoo." Gemma mused; Kripa smiled sarcastically, "Thanks." Gemma continued, "And nice bellybutton ring," she laughed whole-heartedly. "My little daredevil. Kripa." Her voice turned concerned.

"Yeah." Kripa said, once again trying to fit in her jeans.

"You're looking a little thin." She said poking her abs, "You been eating right, I know you haven't been since…" her voice trailed off, she noticed no change in Kripa's expression.

"Maa and Choti died?" Kripa asked.

Gemma looked deathly worried, Kripa turned and smiled, she rubbed her cheek. "You guys worry too much about me. Angad has me running around all the time, that's it." Kripa said, looking down at her stomach. She never noticed, she had been getting thin lately. She didn't like it, she was sure Angad didn't either.

She left the fitting room; she tried to get in jeans and t-shirts like she wished but as always she still bought two salwar suits instead. Angad paid and the three left, within three hours they were back in Mumbai.

The whole car ride, there was occasionally conversation but mostly flirting between Angad and Kripa. Gemma's eyes couldn't help but wander to Angad's face. She was glad her friend was happy, but she couldn't help but wonder what it was about Angad thought she herself found so interesting. He reminded Gemma of someone…but whom?

They unlocked the front door, and Angad shouted, "Look whose home?"

"It's you man, we know you don't have to…" Kartik said turning around, stopping dead in his tracks. "Gemma…"

"Kartik…" Gemma said shocked, Kripa and Angad exchanged glances both unsure of what to say.
