Chapter 9
PART 12
Kripa had turned away from the lake so she wouldn't have to witness Angad and Harshini going at it. She sighed deeply, thinking about what Harry had said.
'Should I just go back to him?' she asked herself. She wasn't sure what she wanted anymore… well, that wasn't true. She knew what she wanted, but she also knew that it wasn't possible. 'He loves someone else.'
…
Angad snuck up behind her, catching his breath. He approached cautiously, not wanting to scare her. She was crying, but he wasn't sure why.
"Kripa?" he called softly. Her sniffles abruptly stopped and he saw her stiffen. He approached her, reaching out for her. She turned and backed away from him.
"No, Angad! Go away!" Angad looked at her, hurt.
"Kripa… please, don't be like that," he begged. Kripa shook her head, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Just go back to Harshini! I know that's what you really want. It's what you wanted all along… so just… go," she said softly. Angad shook his head vigorously.
"I have what I want right here."
"You don't have to lie to me."
"Whoever said I was?"
Kripa looked at him skeptically. She shook her head and sighed.
"Angad, I saw you two kissing across the lake," she told him. Angad rolled his eyes.
"You, of all people, should know not to jump to conclusions! She kissed me. I didn't return it. She doesn't mean anything to me anymore… I'm just sorry it took me this long to realize that the only thing that means anything to me is you. Don't you understand, Kripa? I don't like her anymore. For the past few days I've realized that it's YOU I've been in love with all along. It's been you, Kripa. I love the way your eyes light with anger when you are arguing, the way your hair blows in the wind, the way you are totally oblivious to the fact that you could be the best person that I have ever known."
Kripa gave him a half smile, her eyes still watery with tears.
"You really mean that?" she asked him, wanting to be sure her ears weren't deceiving her.
"Every word." Kripa ran to him, smiling happily.
"Thank you," she said. Angad looked at her oddly.
"For what?" he asked.
"For loving me," she responded. Angad's gray eyes locked on hers, filled with love and emotion.
"And thank you, Kripa," he told her. Kripa chuckled.
"For what?" she asked him.
"For helping me realize what love is." He leaned down and kissed her. Kripa pulled away after a few seconds.
"How did this happen?" she asked.
"How did what happen?"
"How did our plan turn out like this in the end?" Kripa asked. "Not that I'm complaining," she added with a grin. Angad grinned back.
"I guess we owe it all to a twist of love." Kripa smiled.
"Yes. I like that. We owe it to a twist of love… because that's certainly what this is."
"Couldn't have said it any better myself…," Angad whispered, and sealed his words with tenderness.
