Chapter 55

Part 56 – Surfing lessons

 

Isha: Eklavya!? Come on!  I don't wanna be late today!

Eklavya: Don't worry, we wont be late. Ok, I'm ready. Let's go.

 

             Isha led the way enthusiastically towards the beaches of Maui. She sighed at the beauty of the place. She could stay in this paradise forever with Eklavya! She grabbed Eklavya's hand and ran with him along the beach.

E: Isha, what exactly are we doing here?

I: Oh, we're surfing today.

E: What?!

I: Yeah, surfing. Maui is the perfect place for surfing! Have you seen the waves here? They're awesome! Come on!

E: But –

             Eklavya didn't bother to finish his sentence. Surfing? Great. After dancing, now he had to learn how to surf. Next they'd be climbing Mount Everest. Isha gave him a wet suit and pushed him into a nearby change room. Eklavya came out, feeling, and in his opinion, looking ridiculous.

E: Isha –

I: Yeah?

E: I look stupid…

             Isha looked over and smiled at him, giggling slightly. She was putting on her own wet suit and it seemed to look great on her, Eklavya thought.

I: You don't look stupid, Eklavya! You're just not used to it. Come on! Let's go buy surf boards.

             Isha led him towards a small shop and bought two surf boards.

I: (top the store keeper) Thank you! (To Eklavya) Come on, Eklavya! Let's hit the waves!

E: Yeah, there's only one problem, Isha…

I: What?

E: I can't surf.

I: (surprised) What? Oh, never mind. It's ok. I'll teach you!

             Isha took her surfboard and started demonstrating how to get up on the board just when the wave came. It looks easy, thought Eklavya. He grabbed his own surfboard and waited for a wave. When the wave hit, he quickly paddled and tried to get up on the board. He slipped on his board and toppled over.

I: It's ok. That was actually good for the first time. Try again.

             Eklavya tried again. And again and again and again and again. But nothing happened. The longest he stood on the board was for about 3 seconds. This was so embarrassing. His wife could surf and he couldn't. He retired helplessly on the sandy beach. Isha came up to him and sat beside him.

I: Its ok, Eklavya. It took me weeks to get my first wave. You're really good for a beginner. Don't worry, you just gotta keep trying.  You wanna try again?

E: (Sighs) Fine…

I: Ok, this time. We'll both go on one board. Just hold on to my waist.

             Eklavya held on to her waist and let the first wave come. This time he paddled and paddled and with Isha's help, he stayed still! He got his first wave!! He was surfing!! Of course, after another few seconds they both fell in the water. But he had actually been surfing! He splashed water on Isha for fun. She splashed more water back. He pulled her towards him in the water and dived under so she couldn't see him. Then, he grabbed her legs and pushed her into the water. They surfed, splashed and played in the water for a while before coming out to dry.

E: That was awesome!

I: Told you! Once you get the hang of it, it's so much fun! Now I'll teach you scuba diving and then we can go mountain climbing! And after that we can go –

             Eklavya clasped his hand around Isha's mouth.

E: How about we just take a walk along the beach?

             After surfing for a few more hours, they agreed to take a walk. And it was the perfect setting too; the beach of Maui in the moonlight. What more could a couple want?

 

 

 

I'm sorry this part isn't that good...This is more of a visual part and I'm assuming that most of you  haven't surfed before, so I don't think you all will like this part a lot...Sorry...But to help you imagine a little, here are some pics on surfing:
