Part 46 – Suhaag Raat

 

M: What do you mean you can't let me in?

E: Arre, Archita, Pari? Yeh kya hai?

A: Kya hai matlab? Hamare paise nahin do ge toh entry nahin milagi!

E: But it's my room!

A: Bhaiyaa! Pehle paise do!

E: Achha yeh lo

 

             Eklavya reached into his pocket and got 3700 rupees out. While Manthan took out the money he had. Stupid marriage customs*, he thought quietly. He handed them to Archita and Pari.

P: Sirf 5000?

E: Toh aur kitna lootna hai?

A: Bhaiya, itni special raat hai, itni kangusi mat karo!

M: Arre! 5000 toh diye aur kitne- ?

P: 1000 aur!

M: Kya? Pagal ho gaya ho kya?

A: Theek hai 1500 aur! Waise bhi, this is really cheap considering that there are two of you! We should be charging double!

E: Lakshya, meri madat karo!

L: Sorry bhaiya, if I take your side, then they won't spare me during my wedding!

E: (Sigh) Theek hai, Yeh loh 1500 aur! Kush?

A and P: Thank you, bhaiya!

             The girls took the money and cleared out from their ways. Finally, they thought, they're gone! Manthan went to his room while Eklavya went to his'.

             Manthan opened the door slightly and entered the room. He saw the room decorated with roses, jasmines and lilies. It looked beautiful and smelt sweet because of the special candles that Manthan had ordered. He walked over to the bedside, moving the vines of flowers out of the way. He was shocked as he saw nobody sitting there. Where was his bride? She couldn't have left, could she? Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a white piece of paper on the bedside. He walked over and opened with his hands shaking.

Manthan,

Sarika called and told me

What really happened that day.

You are better off with her

Please don't follow me after

             What? Manthan looked at the note frantically and read it and then re-read it. It didn't seem to make any sense to him at all. She had left him? On their nuptial night? And what had Sarika said? He ran outside his room. He had to find Nisha.

Eklavya walked towards his room quietly. He was actually married! Somehow, he was still having trouble accepting that. He slowly pushed his bedroom door open. Everything inside looked beautiful. The different flowers added a pure scent to the room. The lilies were Isha's favourite flowers so he had purposely told the florists to fill the entire room with lilies. He looked at the milk on the counter table but ignored it and went straight to his wife.

             He walked towards his bed slowly. It seemed as if every step he took seemed to last forever. Finally her got on the bed and lifted the 'gunghat' off of his bride. Turns out it wasn't his bride at all under the 'gunghat'.

*I'm not sure if you guys know of this or not, but for those who don't there is this marriage custom in India where the sisters of the groom demand for money before he can step into his bedroom to see his bride. That's why Pari and Archita were asking for money.
