Part 32 – The consequence
After Archita had broken Nisha and Manthan apart, they both had went in to change. After changing, they went to find the others. After searching for everyone in their bedrooms, they had found them sitting in a circle in the living room.
N: Yeh kya –?
I: (Grumpily) We lost, remember? So we have to do what they say.
A: (Sighs) We were so close to winning! Only one more point!
L: Well, you didn't! We won so we get to decide what you guys do! And we have decided that you girls have to –
N: Hold on!
Everyone turned to look at her. Nisha looked at her watch. She smiled at them.
N: Technically, it's still Holi. And I pulled Manthan into the pool right now. So that means I have a point, don't I?
M: But I scared you and you fell into the pool too. So then the guys have a point too!
A: Not really, bhaiya. You did it unintentionally. Nisha did it intentionally. So she's right; we're tied!
The guys looked at each other wondering if this was true and if they really were tied now.
L: No, we don't believe you guys. Any proof of this?
A: I was a witness! I saw them in the pool together!
M: She's right. Nisha did pull me into the pool.
L: So we're tied?
E: Guess so.
L: But –
A: No buts and ifs, Lakshya! Now we need a tie breaker!
L: (Lighting up) Great! So can the guys pick what the tie breaker is?
KT: No!
E: Why not?
A: It should be a group decision!
L: Ok, I have an idea. Rock Paper Scissors. Best two out of three decides the tie breaker. Ok?
A: (Whispering to the girls) I think it's ok. Nisha, you think we should do rock paper scissors?
N: Sure. I'm just going to go in the kitchen and get some water ok?
A: Sure. (To everyone) Ok, guys. We agree to your rock paper scissor thing.
Nisha smiled at them and left to go to the kitchen. Manthan saw her leave and wondered what was wrong. He was about to get up and go when Eklavya told him to do the rock paper scissors first.
M: Main?
I: Why, Manthan, are you scared?
M: No, I'm not! Who am I facing?
A: Me!
M: Ok, Archie
The first time they did it, Manthan made a fist, indicating a rock while Archita made a flat hand, indicating paper. Archita won the first round. In the second round, Manthan made a fist again, while Archita made a scissor. This time Archita lost. The last round, Manthan made scissors while Archita made paper. Manthan won, which meant the guys won.
L: Ok, since we get to decide. We decide an arm battle. Whoever wins this does what the other party says, ok?
E: So who wants to go up against us?
I: Against you, Eklavya? I can. I can easily defeat you. And you know how?
E: No, it ok. I'm not that good at arm battles.
M: Ok, then, Isha, I'll go against you.
I: (Looks at the girls and then to Manthan) Ok, fine.
Everyone sat in a circle by a round table. Manthan and Isha extended their hands and held each other's hands tightly. Archita placed her hand on top of theirs.
A: Ok. 1, 2, 3, GO!
Immediately, Isha felt a rush of strength against her hand. It was practically impossible to win against a bodybuilder like Manthan. But she had a solid idea and if Manthan really liked Nisha, it would work. She smiled at him. Then she suddenly looked over his shoulder with a worried expression.
I: Oh my Gosh, Nisha di, are you ok?
Manthan turned around, loosening his grip. Isha took this opportunity to slam Manthan's hand on the ground. She smirked at him. Manthan realized what she had done.
M: That's cheating!
N: (Coming in from the kitchen) What's cheating?
I: Nothing, di!
Lakshya told Nisha what had happened and Nisha looked at Isha with a very older-sister expression.
N: That is cheating, Isha!
I: No, it's not, di!
N: Isha - Ok, it's a tie? Alright? We don't win and they don't win, is that ok?
Both teams looked at each other and finally nodded. Since nobody won, they all started doing their own separate things. KT, Archita and Lakshya were watching KBC. Manthan and Nisha went into a deep conversation about something. And Eklavya and Isha were discussing on how to tell Damini and the rest of their family about their future bahu. Just then, the elders came in looking very tired. Most of them went straight up to their rooms after all; they were tired from their Holi as well. However, Damini came and sat beside Eklavya asking him how his Holi was. Just then the lights went out. Everything became pitch dark. Everyone groaned.
D: Tum log yahaan raho, I'll go in the kitchen and get some candles.
N: Aunty, it's ok, I know the way to the kitchen; I'll go get them.
D: Ok, beta. But be careful! It's really dark.
As Nisha slowly walked into the kitchen, she carefully dodged the tables and counters. She opened each drawer one by one and rummaged through it to find candles. After about 5 minutes, she finally got a few candles and a match box. She was turned back to go but accidentally hit something. The candles went flying. Going by instinct, Nisha bent down to pick up the candles. Of course in the dark, this was practically impossible. She felt the floor with her hand, searching for the candles but grabbed something else. Or rather, somebody else's hand. Nisha looked up realizing this was Manthan's hand. She could recognize this hand anywhere. Manthan found a candle, took out a lighter out of his pocket and lit the candle. He put the candle in between them. Nisha and Manthan stared at each other. The entire room was dark except for the little light by this candle. Both of their faces were illuminated by it.
Back in the living room, everyone was still patiently waiting for Nisha to come back with the candles. Eklavya had gone to the mandir to look for candles there.
D: She's taking an awful long to get the candles. I should go and check if she's ok.
Damini got up and slowly ambled her way but was stopped by a hand.
I: No, you sit, I'll go.
Damini smiled as she recognized Isha's voice. As Isha got up, Damini filled up Isha's seat. Eklavya had gone to the temple to search for candles there. However, the mandir was locked. When he came back, he put a hand on the hand besides his'. Little did he know that the hand was not Isha's but his mother's.
Isha walked into the kitchen very quietly, looking for her sister. She was just about to leave when she saw, in the corner of the kitchen, Manthan and Nisha bent down, holding each other's hand and looking deeply at each other's eyes with one candle lit between them. Isha looked at them, smiling. So this was why she was talking so long. They were so lost in each other's eyes that they hadn't even heard Isha come in.
Back in the living room, Eklavya was making plans to tell Damini and was thinking of telling Isha right away. Little did he know that while he had gone to the temple, Isha's seat had been replaced with his mother.
E: (Nudges Damini) (Whispering) Psst! Isha!
D: (Surprised)
E: Ok, we'll keep it really simple and sweet. How about we take maa, Tulsi dadi and Baa in the mandir and you touch maa's feet and then we can tell her that we love each other and that we want to get married. Is that ok?
Damini wasn't really shocked to hear this considering that she'd seen them together and saw how the two looked at each other. But she didn't know that it had gone this far. Eklavya hadn't told her anything yet?
Back in the kitchen, Isha walked stealthily between the two lovers (not that it mattered seeing as both of them were too preoccupied staring at each other!) and put her hands at her waist. At that moment, the lights came on. Manthan and Nisha snapped into reality and saw Isha staring at them with a raised eye brow.
N: (Stammering) Woh – Isha – Hum
I: Yeah, so this is why the candles never arrived.
M: (Looking down at his feet)
I: Never mind, now, it's ok. The lights are back. Let's get back to the – oh wait, do you guys want to finish staring at each other? Should I leave?
N: (Gives the ever famous "I'm going to kill you" look)
I: Ok, ok, I'm going!
Isha ran ahead to the living room only to find everyone staring at Eklavya and Damini. Damini was pulling Eklavya's ear and apparently scolding him for something. As soon as Isha arrived, all eyes turned to her. Nisha and Manthan returned from their kitchen scenario as well. Damini walked up to Isha, dragging Eklavya along with her. Or actually, dragging his ear along with her. Eklavy was looking at Isha and pointing towards Damini's feet. What on earth was he saying?
E: (Mouths) Touch her feet!!
I: Oh!
Isha bent down and touched Damini's feet.
D: So yeh hai meri bahu?
Isha looked at Eklavya with wide eyes. There was no reason to mouth words to each other seeing as everyone already knew about this.
I: You told her! But you promised that we'd both tell her! (She whacks him)
E: She overheard me, Isha!
A: Poor Eklavya bhaiya; on one side, he has chachi pulling his ear; on the other he has Isha whacking him. Tisk*Tisk*Tisk
D: Isha, come here…
I: (A lttle reluctantly steps forward)
D: (Smiles and takes off a bangle from her wrist) Filhaal to mere paas yehi hai. Take this as your first gift from your saas.
Isha looked up and smiled widely at Damini. Damini took the bangle and gave it to Isha. Eklavya grinned. After all that bashing and trashing from the two ladies he loved the most, it had all been worth it.
