Chapter 10:
"Hey guys… umm… I was thinking about Mission RN… and I just realised that… isn't it a bit childish? I mean our primary goal is to prove Captain Rajveer and Naveen innocent and to catch the traitors and spies in the Army… and… I don't know…" Yudi left off trying to find a way to express himself.
"I actually think he's right. We should first think about-" Aalekh cut in while Ali was speaking.
"You two can bail out if you want. I don't care if it's childish. All I want is to see Naina happy, and I know Rajveer Sir will surely do that, and he deserves the happiness as well. They both went through a lot, and now it's time for them to enjoy lives rather than give it up for others!"
"He's right. And there's not much we can do for Naina's brother and hero's innocence except for supporting them, and we're doing that." Pooja convinced her husband.
"What about Huda?" Yudi asked quietly.
"What about him? He'll understand… he's not a kid." Aalekh said indifferently.
"Don't be so harsh… I mean from what I've heard he loves her too…" Orni put in. Aalekh sighed; he couldn't even drink in front of Ali and Pooja. He craved for it so much! It had been days since he last drank.
It was 8 AM and the five were at a valley below the hill the mansion was on. Aalekh was in a half lying position against a rock, and Yudi sitting against it. Pooja and Ali were sitting under a tree nearby; she was resting her head against his shoulder. Orni, though, was quite hyper and was walking (sometimes skipping) from one place to another. She couldn't stay still at one point for long it seemed.
"I guess we should head back. Naina's probably done making breakfast… who knew she was into cooking! Oh, do any of you know where Rajveer Sir is?" Yudi asked.
"No… but he left really early in the morning with some files… I saw him going from my window." Orni replied proudly. Yudi chuckled at her childlike manner, and Pooja and Aalekh exchanged glances at this.
At the mansion: Naina & Captain Rajveer
'Wow!' was all he could think as he saw his protge in her simple outfit and loose hair, and sniffed the mouth-watering smell of breakfast, both coming from the kitchen. Naina stopped on her tracks with the plates, smiling at him as if it was an everyday routine and continued setting the table.
"Breakfast is ready… where were you?" she asked. She realised how it sounded like a wife asking her husband a few moments later, and blushed. "I'm sorry, I meant… uh… you went out really early and…"
"It's perfectly alright Naina. I went to meet Colonel Shakti with the proof, and he said our case is too solid to decline or ignore." He informed her, almost as if a husband telling his life-partner of a promotion at work. She didn't seem to mind at all though; she beamed happily at him and wanted to run up to him and hug him tightly.
Wait… why couldn't she? They both shared the immense happiness of finally receiving the respect they had deserved and grief of the loss of her brother who couldn't be with them to be a part of it all. This thought struck her and she did as her heart guided her to.
At first his instincts and senses told him not to acknowledge it, but what was wrong with hugging his protge, his friend's sister? What was wrong even if he thought of her as more than that? He shut out all the thoughts and brought her closer to his heart, resting his cheek on her silky hair, when-
"- do you think he isn't taking help from-" Pooja stopped talking abruptly at the scene before her. Although they were caught in an awkward situation, Naina and Rajveer reacted very smoothly, unlike however they might've reacted even a month ago. They separated and told the rest about the case.
"See? I told you we couldn't have helped much in the case!" Pooja whispered to Ali.
"Wow… they don't only love each other… they share so much more…" Orni whispered dreamily. Aalekh and Yudi just shared the same thought at hearing her, 'Girls!'
"Oh Sir, since your case is on its way to success, how about a party?" Yudi asked.
"Yudi," in the past few days, they had all been tired of hearing 'Cadet' all the time, so he now called them by their names, "the case is looking positive, but hasn't actually won yet. Plus, you can throw a party when you get back to the academy with the rest of your friends!" Pooja suddenly smacked her head.
"Lo, we've forgotten completely about the Ball!"
"No Pooja, we haven't. The mission I had given you guys still stands, because I doubt Majors Nair and Bhargav will talk; they are well-trained soldiers. The Boss is bound to come to the Ball with new spies of his, since his old ones were caught. He wouldn't waste any time doing this, so this mission still stands."
"So does Mission RN." Aalekh said under his breath, so that only Pooja and Yudi could hear it. They did, and smiled widely. It was time to get down to work.
"Uh Sir… since there's no party, how about something else… since we don't have anything to do right now…" Yudi trailed off.
"Hey why don't we take a tour around Simla?" Ali asked as planned. Rajveer agreed and so they decided to go after breakfast with Orni as their tour guide.
"Naina who knew you were such a good cook?! Your husband's gonna be lucky yaar!" Pooja said, seeing the Rajveer steal a glance at her best friend, and her blushing.
"Bhaiya used to say that too… that's why he was overprotective when I was with any guy, because he wanted to make sure a guy who deserved my cooking got it!" Naina smiled at the memories. Raj wondered whether Naveen would've thought he deserved her cooking or not…
"So… Naina… do you have a boyfriend?" Aalekh choked on his juice at Orni's question. Yudi tried to kick her under the table, but ended up kicking Pooja, who glared viciously at him.
"No! I mean… I've been busy with the academy…" Naina left off. "Uh… do you?"
"Not anymore, since both Yudi and I are grown up now…" it was Yudi's turn to choke on his paratha. Pooja gladly slapped him on the back, making him choke even more instead of helping.
"What's wrong with you guys today? You all seem… tensed…" Rajveer asked looking around.
"It's nothing Sir… we're just… hoping for the best of the case!" Aalekh made up. Naina gave him a questioning look at his discomfort, he just shook his head. She knew something was up, but she didn't think that she wanted to know what it was!
