Chapter 10

"Hm... I know mujhe tumhe yeh sab nahi batana chahiye... but after reading your mails and after meeting you.. I have seen the urge in you to live... And that's the reason perhaps why I thought of sharing this with you..."

Khushi was not getting anything and so she just kept on staring at him, while he continued

"Khushi actually... me and my American Colleagues are working on a project of preparing some cure for this very disease. Now... we have completed the Level 1 and are working on Level 2"

And Khushi nodded ... she hearing this felt as if she was part of some secret mission and he said

"Level 1 has been experimented only on lab guinea pigs and it has proved successful but till now it has not been approved by American Government and it has yet not be licensed..." and he stopped.

She waited for him to continue , but when he didn't say anything more she said

"Haan... toh I guess tumne mujhe yeh koi story batane ke liye nahi bola ..."

Arnav looked at her , direct into her eyes and then looked beyond her and said

"Khushi if it starts working on human... then there will be development in condition... in their health.. and they can live more.. till Level 2 is completed."

"Arnav .. mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha hai.. tumhara kehna hai ki... aagar maine Level 1 apply kiya toh mai thik ho jayungi kuch dino ke liye ?"

He nodded and said

"kuch mahino ke liye"[For few months]

"OMG !!! wow that's great... then you should try it on me..."

"No Khushi..."

"Par Kyu ???"

"Khushi its really very dangerous... abhi tak yeh kisi human par try nahi kiya gaya hai.. and aagar yeh kaam nahi kiya... then your condition will deteroite."

Khushi looked at him and thought something and said

"Koi nahi Arnav... kisi na kisi par toh 1^st time try hona hi hai... then why not me.. aur waise bhi... aise bed par lete lete, dheere dheere marne se aacha toh hai ki mai jaldo hi marr jau..." [Arnav its not prb.. you have to try it on someone for 1^st time, then why not me... and moreover its better to die fast than to die slowly like this..]

"Khushi its not possible... mera hi fault tha jo maine yeh sab kuch keh daala.. I mean I cant risk your life like that.."

She wanted to hold his hand and say this.. but as she couldn't , so she looked into his eyes and said

"Please you don't have any fault... you just told me... coz you don't want me to die..."

"Obviously Khushi koi bhi doctor yeh nahi chahta ki uske patient ko kuch bura ho... but still I cant take this risk with your life."

Khushi sighed and said

"Arnav B+ ... aagar yeh kaam kargaya.. then atleast for few months.. I can walk do everything without anyones help and support and jot um risk ki baat kar rahe ho.. who mujhse zyada tumhara hai."

And that's when he knew what she was about to say and looked other side and heard her say

"Risk... who toh tum le rahe ho Arnav... aapne life ... aapne career ke saath... mai toh khair aise bhi marne wali hoon... waise bhi.. but aagar tum successful na hue ... and bahar yeh pata chal gaya that yeh treatment use kiya hai... toh tumhari doctor ki license bhi toh cancel ho jayega... and I know that tum yeh baat jante ho." [Risk... you are taking risk with your life , with your career .. I will die.. so that's not a big thing, now if this treatment proves to be unsuccessful and this news leaks out then your doctor's license will get cancelled.. and I know that you know this.]

And Arnav looked at her and she said

"Remember mai law ki student thi... ok listen mai kal subah hi aamma and Bauji se baat karungi and don't worry I will convince them... you just start preparation for Level 1. "

"Khushi tum..."

"Arnav pls... mujhe jeena hai.. mujhe phirse aapne pairo par khada hona hai... aapne haatho ko feel karna hai.. so pls.. aab na mat kaho and peeche mat haato." [Arnav pls.. I want to stand on my legs again , want to feel my hands , want to live again... now pls don't say no and don't move back.]

And Arnav finally nodded and said

"Ok fine then.. kal aapne Dad ko mujhse milne bolna ok.."

And Khushi nodded. He looked at her for once and then left.

He heard her shrill voice.

"Beta tu thik hai ?" [Son you ok?]

And he opened his eyes to see his mom sitting beside him , looking worried.

He slowly smiled... he missed her.. he missed seeing her so much, but then soon his smile faded , when he saw The man , he hated the most in his life . His dad was looking at him with a look as if saying You are a fool.'

Akash closed his eyes and opened them again and saw his mom. Before he could say anything Dr. Payal came and said

"Aunty aap logo ko abhi jana chahiye... Akash ke checkup ka time hogaya.. aap log pls kal aayega.." [Aunty you have to leave.. its his checkup time , you can come tomorrow.] and his mom sobbed and nodded her head and he saw his mom and dad leaving the cabin.

Akash turned towards Payal and said

"Dr. Payal mujhe maa se baat karni thi..."

"Abhi nahi AKash... abhi tum unse kuch bhi bologe toh who aur zyada tut jayegi.. you talk with her tomorrow."

Akash nodded and then said

"Dr. Payal mai yaha so so kar thak gaya hoon.." [Dr. Payal m just tired...]

Payal looked at him and then thought something for a few seconds and then he saw her removing his drips and he gave her a confused look and asked

"Yeh aap kya kar rahi ho ?" [What are you doing ?]

She stopped , looked at him and said

"Tumhi ne toh kaha kit um so so kar bore hogaye ho... so M taking you out."

"Really ??? you mean we are going out of this hospital.."

"No... M taking you out of this cabin..."

She freed him from his drips and then helped him  stand up, when he was able they slowly walked out of the cabin. She walked straight to the lift and he followed her.. after pressing the required buttons they stood silently , but all of a sudden Akash asked

"Dr. Payal you are taking me out.. but aagar uss khadoos Dr. Arnav ne dekh liya toh..."

"You don't need to worry sis ko kuch kaam hai.. so tonight he is not going to come to the hospital."

"Oh ! ho ... that's the reason Dr. Payal has become this brave.." he teased her and Payal glared at him and he kept smiling.

Soon the lift stopped and they moved out and she said

"Follow me..."

And he started walking behind her. He noticed how graceful she was... yes she was not that tall , but those heels of her made her look tall enough. And then she stopped and opened a glass sliding door and went to the other side. He too followed her and stepped into the open airy verandah. The view from the balcony was beautiful , he looked down and realized that probably he was on the 10^th or 11^th floor and the city of Delhi looked just beautiful. He saw her climbing up and sitting on the boundary of the balcony and he said

"Dr. Payal.. you will fall ... be careful... and if you fall from here.. no one can save you."

She laughed... Yes she laughed... he had seen her smile numerous times , but this was the first time , he was seeing her laugh like this . It was a carefree laugh. He just kept on looking at her , the wind was making her hair fly in all direction. He slowly turned towards the city and breathed the fresh air and allowed the wind to tickle him too and he heard her ask

"Aacha lag raha hai ???"

"Ya... its so peaceful here..."

"Ya I know... its my favourite place... whenever.. Dr. Arnav scolds me.. and I become sad.. I come here.. and this always blowing cold breezes helps me to understand my mistakes .. and to realize that dr. Arnav was right.. for whatever he said"

"Oh ! ho... Dr. Payal.. tell me one thing..  tumhe who khadoos itna kyu pasand hai.. "

Payal looked at him and smiled and said

"Akash... Tell me one thing.. tumhe who kyu pasand nahi hai.. Dr. Arnav.. bahut hi intelligent... and India ke best doctors mein se ha i... I feel lucky ki mujhe unke under mein kaam karne ka mauka mila hai... and I respect him.. naki tum jo soch rahe ho waisa.. and who aaj tak ke sabse youngest doctor hai... jinhone itne kam umre mein itna kuch achieve kar liya hai..." [Why don't you like him ?? Dr. Arnav is really intelligent.. and he is among India's best doctors.. I feel lucky to work under him ... and  I respect him.. and there is nothing like what you think... and he is the youngest doctor to achieve so much.]

"Ok ! Ok ! I don't want to hear anymore about him..."

"Aare Dr. Arnav just behaves as if he is very strict but in real... he is a really good person.. and waise bhi unke peeche toh ladkiyon ki line padhi hai.. but who toh kisi ko ghaas hi nahi dete..."

"Aacha toh phir.. what about Khushi... Dr. Arnav toh use bahut baat karte hai.." [Then what about Khshi??? He talks a lot with her...]

"Akash its just because she is her patient..."

"Oh really ???"

"Ok.. I don't know.. now lets go down.. its really late.. and if by chance he comes and sees us out like this.. then I am gone.." and both of them laughed and went downstairs back to the cabin.

Precap :

"Hi !!!"

Khushi looked here and there and then looked at Akash smiling at her and she giving him a confused look asked

"Kya tumne kuch kaha abhi ???"

Akash nodded his head and said

"See I am really sorry... maine job hi kiya.. uske liye..."
