Wrote this long back but didn't post it I don't know why. It is inspired by an episodic show I watched long back but I changed lots of stuff and it's completely my story. You may find resemblance with that show if you have watched, for which the credit goes to the writers of it. Enjoy. Not proofread so there'll be goof ups here and there.

Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai...

Adjusting his tie, he looked in the mirror and smiled a smile that hid something called pain. Putting on his blazer and taking the first copy of his newly published book from the dressing table, he moved out of his room. "Ah! Mehek. Just because of you I'm in these suit on my read of the novel. You know I'm more of casual wear guy. Look what you make me do. Hate you for that." Shaurya just complained while he was on the way to the place where the world awaits for him. "And I love you for that." Mehek pecked his hairy cheek and snuggled into him. Shaurya couldn't help but adore the beauty in white completing his black suit.

He sat in the spotlight having intense gaze of listeners who were there to listen to the best seller of the year in the voice of the teller. He could see Mehek in the rather dark auditorium sitting in the very first row just in front of him. He cleared his voice, and Mehek blew a flying kiss towards him and he smiled before starting. "This story, is very close to my heart. I hope ki dil ki kahani aap sab ke dil tak pahuche." Shaurya said before starting with the story.

~~FLASHBACK~~

"Oye. What are you doing there? Marne ka shauk hai kya?" He heard a loud voice from behind. It was a female voice he was sure of. "God! Koi shanti se marne bhi nahi deta ab." Shaurya was pissed off. He was again thinking to jump from the cliff into eternity, thus ending his failure life. "Sunai nahi deta kya tumhein?" He heard the same voice that was nearer than before. She was just standing behind him. Her lavender smell gave him goosebumps. Kehte hain kuch khushboo humare andar ek ajeeb si sensation paida kar dehi hain. Shaurya ke liye ye wahi khushboo thi. There was something strange with her lavender smell he thought but didn't give into it and again gathered all his courage to jump off the cliff. Marne ke liye bhi badi himmat chahiye hoti hai. By then she had held his wrist firmly, not wanting him to end his life and bring sadness to his dear ones. "Yaar, shanti se marne toh do." Shaurya said pissed off on this unknown girl holding his hand. She jerked him and pulled him to look at her. "Why do you want to die. Huh! You should rather be grateful that you have got to live. Jaane kitne hi log ek aur saans ki dua karte hain har waqt aur tumhein iski koi qadr hi nahi." She was scolding him and he didn't say a word. "What will I do with this life anyway? Just go from here and lemme do whatever I want. Non of your business." Shaurya shook away her hand. "Tum. Tum meri help kar sakte ho in delivering flowers." Mehek said excited. She was anyway searching for someone to help her in her flower shop. "No way." Shaurya who was already annoyed told bluntly. "Oh gosh! Seriously. I mean. Ok fine, just help me for this valentines week and then you can carry off with your suicide thingy. It's really hectic in shop and I can't manage alone." Mehek pleaded. "No." Shaurya said without looking at her. "Okay." She took a deep breath., "I'll call the police then and tell that you're trying to commit suicide. You know na it's a criminal offence?" Mehek said nonchalantly dialing some numbers on her phone. "You sure don't wanna land yourself in jail for last few days of your life. Just say a yes." Shaurya thought to himself. Mehek anyway wanted to distract this stupid person and that's why she wanted him to work for her.

"By the way what do you do?" Mehek asked opening the door of her flower show and turning the plate to 'Open'. "I'm a rejected writer. Puri life bas rejection hi jheli hai." Shaurya sat on a chair and played with a twig. "Oh. Writer. Hmm. Nice." Mehek was impressed. She liked artistic people. "No publisher wants to publish my stories. They already rejected five manuscripts." Shaurya told. "Koi nahi. But you should never stop writing aur mujhe lagta hai your next book will be best seller." Mehek who was working on her next order told him. "And how do you know that?" Shaurya chuckled. "Bas. Pata hai." Mehek smiled and put three red roses together.

Shaurya was much of a listener and Mehek loved to talk. She would go on and on about her liked and dislikes and dreams and passion and Shaurya would just listen to them. "Oye stupid, will you come for my friend's birthday party?" Mehek said giving him his slice of pizza. "Naah." Shaurya refused. He just didn't want to get out of his shell. Just wanted those four more days to pass so that he could get away with her. "Arre come na. It's a beach party. Maza aayega." Mehek pestered him and he couldn't say no.

He was waiting for her, outside her flat that was just next to her flower shop. She came in white flowy dress with open hair and a tiara on it. She looked like an angel and he couldn't take his eyes off her. She sat on his bike, "chalo bhi." He heard her say when he didn't start his bike. "You look gorgeous." He complimented her before starting the bike and she just blushed.

"Will you dance with me?" Shaurya gave Mehek his hand. "Sure." Mehek kept her hand in his. They heard slow music in the background. He kept his hand on her waist and she kept hers on his shoulder, the other hand in each others' and they moved swiftly to the tune of some romantic song. Having finished their dinner Shaurya dropped her at her flat and she invited him for a coffee. "Coffee? Iss waqt? Itni raat gye?" Shaurya asked. "Ahaan. One cup coffee under the starry night sky with the breeze directly coming from the beautiful sea. Aaise coffees zindagi ki unn chand coffees mein se hoti hain jo zindagi bhar yaad rehti hain." Mehek meant something only Shaurya understood.

"You know life mein kabhi kabhi mann karta hai bas aise hi stars ke saath baith ke baatein karun. Kabhi kabhi na main puri raat in stars ko dekhti hi reh jaati hoon. Kabhi kabhi aisa lagta hai hai ki kahin palkein jhapku aur kuch miss na ho jaaye. Life is so precious. You know my Mum committed suicide, wahin se jahan tum mile the. My father rejected her. She was that other woman in his life and I was that illegitimate child. Mom ke baad, Sonal ki Mom ne mujhe paala. She was my Mom's best friend. Sonal is my best friend who lives in London studying fashion designing." Mehek had a lump in her throat. "Aise suicide karne se kuch haasil nahi hota hai. Humein lagta hai sab sahi ho jaayega but kuch sahi nahi hota. Trust me." Mehek looked at Shaurya. She looked back at the sky and smiled seeing millions of starts shining brightly.

It was a bright new day and Mehek was her chirpy self working on her orders while talking with Sonal on phone, "Nahi yaar Sonal. Mera aur uska kuch nahi ho sakta. Tu sab jaanti toh hai na yaar." Mehek giggled. "Hey Mehek! Sup?" Shaurya entered the shop and sat on the chair where he usually sat. Mehek hung the call and wished him a good morning. "Was just talking to Sonal." Mehek told him. "By the way, tum bade khush lag rhe?" Mehek looked at him who was chirpy today. "Nahi. Kuch nahi. Aise hi." Shaurya was caught off guard by Mehek. "Anyway, Sonal is coming tomorrow. Wohoo." Mehek was excited. "Oh good." Shaurya said nervously.

"Maasi you know this can't happen. Me and Shaurya? Never." Mehek was hurt. "But why Mehek?" Shaurya heard her saying that. "I'm not obliged to tell you anything. Just go from here. Your job is done." Mehek shrugged him of and closed the door on his face. "Mehek open the door please." Shaurya banged on the door. She just stood by it and cried. He called her and messeged her but she didn't reply to them.

Sonal was home that evening. She found Mehek crying in her room. "Tu ro kyu rahi hai Meheku?" Sonal hugged her. She looked at her Mom who was sitting beside Mehek pacifying her since morning. Her Mom told her everything. Mehek sobbed in Sonal's arms. "Rote nahi hain Mehek. Tu toh kitni storng hai na." Sonal said caressing her hair. "Dekh main hoon tere paas." She said more of those soothing words until Mehek slept in her lap.

Days passed by and Shaurya couldn't talk with Mehek. He was very anxious. Something was not right. "She's having HIV." He heard the same voice that he heard on the phone some while back who claimed herself to be Sonal he had heard about. "What !!!" That came as a real big shock of his life. "Yes. It passed on to her from her Mom. It was her strong will that she survived for all these nineteen years. Doctors told ki jab tak hai tab tak hai." Sonal said wiping the lone tear from the corner of her eyes.

"Yahan baith ke pastry enjoy kar rahi aur wahan meri jaan nikal gyi thi." Shaurya said looking at her from back. She didn't want him to see her in tears. She wore her best smile and looked at him. "Yeah. Sorry. Anyway, you're free from your job so you don't have to come now." She stuffed her mouth with more of the red velvet pastry to curb her tears from falling. "Tum itni bhi acchi actress nahi ho. Kyu door kar rhi ho?" Shaurya said coming near her. "I can't give you pain." Mehek cried. "I love you." Shaurya was on his knees. "No Shaurya." Mehek looked the other side. "Why no Mehek? Please let me be with you please." He pleaded. "Mehek isse jaane mat de. Please." Sonal said. Mehek looked at Sonal's Mom who nodded her head in agreement. She smiled and hugged Shaurya. "I love you." She said. "I love you too." He embraced her tightly.

The world spinned in front of her and she fainted in Shaurya's arms. Opening her eyes a little bit when everyone was panicking she held Shaurya's hands, "Shaurya, tum mere jaane ke baad khush rehna. Don't think about suicide again okay. You have to live for me. Don't stop telling the world your stories. Tumhein bahut bada writer ban'na hai okay. Ek din jab tum apni story reading ke liye jaoge, I'll be just in front of you listening to your story. You'll always find me with you." With that she took a one last breath and died in his arms.

~~FLASHBACK ENDS~~

"She told me the real meaning of life. Babumoshaay, Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi. Uski favourite movie ka favourite dialogue hai. Har waqt bolti rehti thi. Aur haan, aaj bhi uske jaise lavender ki khushboo kahin nahi mili mujhe. Mehek thi woh, meri zindagi ki Mehek." He closed the book and saw her toothy smile on the cover page of the book.

Everyone clapped. He looked at her, she gave the same toothy smile and he giggled to himself. "Thank you for being my Guardian Angel Mehek." He said hugging her. "Mention not." She hugged him back. Pyaar kahan kabhi khota hai...
