Blue eyes & Right

“I can pick them up at 5 ish, will that be OK?” Lyn was at mrs Gomes she needed her help urgently Saturday for back up day care

Lynn was emptying a large sauce pot into a steel container

“I can send bread over Mendy banayega aaj raat ku” she promised Mrs Gomes

Mrs Gomes cat purred and walked between the women and rubbed her tail on Mrs Gomes and left the kitchen

“U take such good care of me darlin”

“Well u said I am your niece, I make 5? 7 things… I can make them over and over again” Lynn giggled

She turned to rinse the chicken

She had made fried fish, some soup, and cooked some rice with the leftover fish and veggies

“Chicken in coconut is my favorite”

“Its from Mangalore, my Mum makes it I told u”

“Mendy is a great cook u don’t need to cook”

“Tell that to Mendy’s Mum”

The women laughed

Mrs Gomes didn’t have any kids

Her sister in Panaji did but both kids lived overseas

The sisters were going to be for each other. She had to have knee surgery, and her sister was visiting her daughter in Singapore so she couldn’t be here.

“I am going to bless u, u know” Mrs Gomes was moved

“Do it after you eat the food, Mendy says the chicken tastes different each time” Lynn laughed

“Mendy is a brat”

“He is” she nodded

“Is he tough with the girls now?”

“NO…. its only gotten worse since his friend is here”

“I see a boy up there”

“Atty is going to love that… he is no boy Mrs Gomes… hes like mendy… THIRTY THREE”

“Well to me he is a boy… tall is he?”

“Yep… and good looking, find a girl for him no”

“I would if Lydia (sister’s) girls were single… both got married real quick hun”

“He wants someone with blue eyes”

“Ooh… that’s going to be tough!”Mrs Gomes had a faraway look

“MENNN” Lynn rolled her eyes

“He dated someone years ago, he searched for her like a man Mrs Gomes”

“Whatt?”

“Yes… I am serious” Lynn was chopping onions, Mrs Gomes was chopping tomatoes on a table by the window inside the kitchen

“Love sick boy” 

Lynn laughed

“I will ask him to move on, bring him here” Mrs Gomes was ready for free advice

“I will bring him… u can feed him my potato fry, boy is vegetarian”

“Silly boy… he needs the protein” Mrs Gomes was sure

“His family is from Bangalore”

“Is this Mendy’s best friend that got divorced not too long ago?”

“Yeah Yeah aunty he is”

“I will ask Lydia if there is a sweet girl at her church in Panaji”

“He will turn her into a vegetarian”

“Fiddlesticks” Mrs Gomes cursed

“I am going to miss you” Lynn teared up

The women sat and enjoyed tea and home made cookies

“There was a girl here two days ago” 

“Hmm?”

“She wants to buy… but thinks Rs66 lakhs is too much” Mrs Gomes mumbled with a mouthful of cookie

“That’s great news.. I mean the buyer”

“Yeah we’ll see” “She had blue eyes” “In fact she was a really gorgeous girl”

Lynn was too focused on how anyone could afford a nice house in this part of Chembur, to focus on the blue eyes part

“Must be wealthy to buy for herself… such a big house” Lynn displayed some envy

“She has a boy she said”

“Oh husband?”

“No… no silly… a child… 9? 10?”

“Oh” “shes a Mum”

“Yes yes.

“I was hoping the child was a girl and 5 and I could keep coming over here” Lynn’s eyes glistened

“Maybe you should just buy it, Mendy and you guys can move here”

“I wish… the girls have their own room” Lynn said sadly

“Umm.. U could… turn this kitchen into a bedroom and make the living room into a open plan hall that’s how rich people live love”

Lynn visualized herself in there

“I really love this flat”

“I know u do, your girls grew up here darlin”

“Is she coming back?”

“She has to….. now… I told her I don’t do email, I want in person offers” Mrs Gomes winked

She was alone and lonely, she drew people in by placing such absurd demands

“Poor girl”

“she looked nervous”

“OH AUNTIEEE” “Not again”

“Yes I know when I see a nervous nellie darlin”

“She is probably just afraid to  buy her first home”

“She lives in Bandra in some highrise… she said a name”

Lynn dodged a went Mendy as the couple flirted in the bedroom

“Do u want o buy Mrs Gomes house? Mrs Gomes keh rahi hai kitchen ko kids room bana lenge, we can have open kitchen in the living, her flat is a bit bigger”

“Tu pagal hai, kon paise dega itta renovation ka rey”

“Mendy I don’t want someone else to buy that house” she moaned

He was busy trying to undo her blouse while the girls were in the living room

“Men… Mendyyy… Min..” she squirmed

“Main Atty ko kahega yaar”

“Some girl with blue eyes saw it, it seems”

Mendy laughed

“Poor family pagal ho rahela hai” he laughed

Held her for a long hard kiss

Atty returned at 8 ish

They ate on the terrace after rains

“Lynn ne tere waste naya blue eyes laaya hai”

Atty laughed

“I am serious rey Mendyyy” Lynn was hurt

“To theek hai na, main kon sa mana kar rahela hai?

“Single nai rey baba, married hogi shaayad… bacha bhi hai”

“Thanks Mendy” Atty laughed

“Yeh mere ku single boli re”

“Mendy” Lynn flung an oven mitt at her husband

“Atty the flat we wanted u to see… that flat Mrs Gomes waala”

Aatreya was not really interested in the convo

But nodded

“I am asking mendy to buy that flat and convert the kitchen into a bedroom” Lynn plugged her selfish idea

Atty looked at her like she was nuts

“U are crazy”

“Apan ke flat se at least 1000 sq feet bada hai” Lynn was insulted

“Apan ka flat 1000 ka hai, who 2000 hai?” Mendy mocked her

“100 hai BASS?” Lynn yelled

Atty was playing hide and seek with the girls

The ADORED him

“Who will do the renovation?” Atty questioned breathless and running

“I like that house rey” Lynn was bummed

“Tu dosti kar le jo naya ladki le legi”

“Tere league se outside hai” Mendy laughed

Lynn chuckled

“U can use Ira and Iris”

“Main bola Mrs Gomes ko 5 year old girl nahi hai kya?”

The men laughed hysterically

“Atty too late man… blue eyes and yet not right” Mendy laughed
