This is my first attempt at a completely different storyline, only retaining most of the characters from GHKKM. Though have a plot defined, will weave the story progress as I proceed with it. Would appreciate your critical views while I experiment and explore this further to ensure that I’m on the right track! The sky had hues of orange as the light was slowly merging into the darkness, with dissimulation of birds returning home, marking the end of another day. Another Day!

But for this man who sat along the banks of the river staring at the disappearing sun, with a gloominess of nothingness in his eyes, every night reflected the disappointment within him. The only solace being the time he spent every evening with the kids from a nearby orphanage and the lively, spirited girl Sai! They together brought a calmness to his aging, broken heart, even if that was temporary. Every evening when it was time for them to return to their respective homes, his heart would sink, and he would stay back watching the sunset delaying his own return home. 

This had been a routine for a few months since he recovered from a cardiac arrest. He would visit on the pretext of an evening walk and spent some peaceful and happy moments in the company of these kids and Sai. He had walked aimlessly one day and reached this place, where he accidently met Sai who was playing along with the kids. He had taken an instant liking for her, like a strong unknown connection as if she was her own. She filled the emptiness in him, along with the children.

Sai was a 3rd year medical student, but despite her packed schedule, she would find time to come over on most days. But the days she was unable to join them due to other commitments, it left him sad and disappointed. She was innocent like a kid, infact she was still a kid in many ways, with a pure heart. But she was far mature for her age too, selfless with an honest, and strong persona with the grit to fight the world for her loved ones. She had sensed the gloominess in his eyes, and he was surprised how she had made him look back at his life with a different perspective despite the years of experience he had with their age gap. He had seen a glimpse of his daughter in her. A daughter he adored, loved more than his life. A daughter he had ignored due to his professional commitments and now when he had all the time in the world, he had lost that daughter to mental illness. And the guilt of it had weighed so heavy, that it became the prime reason for his own deteriorating health. He may not have wronged her directly, he may not have been involved in destroying her, but he had failed to protect her…He had failed her, he had failed as a father!

For the world he was blessed with a happy family, a joint family at that. Not that his family didn’t love him. Infact he was loved by his entire family, but respect was something that fell short on as the patriarch of the family. All the kids in the family loved him to bits, but his own wife and brothers failed to bestow any regard that his stature as the eldest member of the family demanded. No one knew the true side of the story of the brave and one of the most celebrated police officers of his time…. Retd. Commissioner of Police, Nagesh Chavan!
