A Song of Prayer Transformed into the Poetry of Fulfilment

There were no thoughts, no awareness of the world, only longing and the ache of expectation. It was as though Divine punishment and Spiritual reward had descended upon Radha at the same moment.

"Some tears still remain in my eyes, Krishna. They have become the companions of my sorrows. Yet I have no complaint against you, nor can I blame you. My unfulfilled wishes burn silently within my heart. You left me without a word, while I remained here, night after night, writing the endless tale of my longing for my eternal Beloved."

She closed her eyes and surrendered herself to the music of memory. His playful whispers echoed within her as though he stood only a breath away. She longed to call his name softly, hoping he would step out from the luminous frame of her imagination.

Spring was still in its youthful bloom. Clusters of mango blossoms swayed gently in the breeze, and every movement of their fragrant branches stirred anxious waves within her heart.

The earth resembled a newly wedded bride, adorned in crimson for the festival of spring. The playful wind danced through the blossoming mango groves, carrying the cuckoo's song across distant fields and filling Radha's soul with trembling expectancy.

"Krishna, your Radha was born only for you. She has no purpose in this world except you. My birth itself has meaning only because of you. Grant me but one divine darshan. Let me behold you once, and then I shall gladly leave this mortal world in perfect peace."

Eventide descended with a musical silence, ...a silence in which souls could hear melodies that ears never could. Twilight whispered of new beginnings. A fresh page in Time's eternal epic waited to be written. Every possibility carried within it the fragrance of hope.

There she sat beneath the Tamala tree on the banks of the Yamuna, cherishing one beautiful dream, to behold the Divine Light once more.

She gently adjusted the veil upon her head.

That veil seemed to separate the anguish of waiting from the ecstasy of fulfilment; the burning thirst from its cooling stream; longing from union; separation from eternity itself.

When that veil would finally be lifted by destiny, a new dawn would rise in her life.

A mysterious excitement rippled through her heart. Her face glowed with an unearthly radiance. It felt as though the last veil—and the last wail—of her sorrow was slowly being carried away by the evening breeze.

A strange premonition seized her.

Something extraordinary was about to happen.

The trees upon the riverbank swayed gently as though bowing before an unseen presence. Every flowering shrub bloomed with unusual splendour. Every branch, every leaf, every blossom appeared eager to whisper a secret only her heart could understand.

From the nearby bamboo grove floated the gentle strains of the evening raga Abhogi.

The stars blinked knowingly, as though carrying messages meant only for her restless soul.

Why was her heart beating so fast tonight?

Why did every breath carry the fragrance of someone's arrival?

She lifted her eyes toward the heavens.

The stars smiled back like rays of hope.

"There is a message... Someone is coming... Someone is coming for this simple cowherd maiden. But how shall I receive that Divine Light? Why do my eyes search for Him through this enchanted night?"

Night slowly expanded its kingdom.

All of nature seemed to chant in one harmonious voice:

"He is coming... He is coming... Crossing every boundary to reach you. Yes... he is coming"

The crescent moon awoke from its languid slumber and spread its cool silver smile across the earth. Even the clouds paused in silent wonder, gazing upon its beauty with awe and gentle envy.

The universe itself seemed to await an event worthy of eternity.

Then—

A distant rhythm.

The sound of horses.

The rolling wheels of a royal chariot.

Radha's heart stopped.

"The chariot... Is it... Krishna?"

She gazed into the deep blue darkness.

Slowly, majestically, the royal chariot emerged upon the riverside path.

Daruka guided the four spirited horses, who seemed as impatient as the wind itself to carry their Master to His Radha.

Her cheeks flushed crimson.

Loose strands of her dark hair clung to her forehead.

She stood there in a still state.

Before her stood that enchanting dark radiance.....the irresistible, all-attractive Lord, smiling gently at her.

"Krishna..."

The cry did not escape her lips.

It blossomed directly from her soul.

She remained rooted to the earth, unable even to blink, fearing that the slightest movement might dissolve this vision into another dream.

Krishna stepped toward her.

"Radha... allow me to remain beside you for a little while. Forgive these long years of separation.

I have returned in search of myself... in search of myself in your presence!

The war has ended, but humanity has paid for it with immeasurable sorrow.

On that destined day, duty compelled me to leave for Mathura. In fulfilling the destiny of the world, I left behind that tender lover who belonged only to you.

Today I have come back... not as the king of Dwaraka, not as the guide of warriors, nor as the Lord worshipped by the world.

I have come seeking that Krishna whom only your eyes could see.

Let me behold him once again in your love, Radha."

She stood suspended between the irresistible pull of longing and the silent restraint of pride. Pride draped her like a transparent veil, while the gentle zephyr toyed with her dark tresses.

Then, all at once, that fragile veil yielded to the overwhelming tide of timeless love. Like a lovelorn maiden, she longed to claim Him as her own. But the moment her eyes fell upon the vibrant floral garland adorning His neck, her steps halted. It reminded her of the garlands He had once sent her after losing Himself in another maiden's affection.

She searched His tranquil eyes for an answer.

Is this not pure love? Is this not complete surrender?

Her heart whispered, "Yes. He has come only for you—to reclaim His divine self within your embrace."

Yet another voice arose from the depths of her soul.

The sky can never hold a cloud forever; it only treasures the lightning born from it.

His smile gently caressed her being. His mere presence enveloped her completely. She stood before Him, unable to bridge the final distance.

The passing breeze asked the flowing Yamuna,

"Why does Radha not gather her Krishna into her arms?"

The river replied through its murmuring wavelets,

"She is immersed in the bliss of His presence. The veil of pride has slipped away, but the memories engraved upon their hearts still hold her captive."

The bubbling stream smiled softly. The flowing river awakened the fragrance of forgotten love. Yet the moon reflected upon its rippling waters reminded her that He now belonged to many queens.

In a voice trembling with restrained anguish, she murmured,

"While I sat upon the threshold of our love, waiting for a single glimpse of my Kanha, no one answered the cries of my longing. You were busy sharing your life with your queens."

Krishna stepped closer, His eyes filled not with majesty, but with the helpless tenderness of the cowherd boy she had always loved.

"No, Radha," He said gently. "I was searching for you, to find you in every form life offered Me. No beauty has ever surpassed yours. No one has ever soothed My weary heart as you did. No one has dared to cradle My face, ruffle My curls, or squeeze My cheeks in loving anger as you always did.

I have not come here as the King of Dwaraka. I have come as your Kanha, longing once again for the warmth that only your embrace can give.

Let Me rest in your arms once again, Radha. Let Me remember who I truly am."

"Who are you?" she asked, feigning anger, though her trembling voice betrayed the storm within.

"I am you," He replied softly.

Bewildered, she looked into His eyes.

"Then who am I?"

A gentle smile touched His lips.

"Radha, together we are the very definition of love. In separation, we become the images of sorrow. Am I not you, Radha? How can I define Myself without uttering your name? You are the fullness of My being; I am but a fragment within you."

Silence descended between them.

It was not an empty silence, but one overflowing with meanings no words could ever contain. They knew this was the moment destiny had preserved through countless ages....their moment of reckoning.

With a shy smile playing upon her lips, she asked,

"Krishna, are you the charmer of life or the judge of wisdom? In your presence, the cause of desire and the fulfilment of love remain so perfectly balanced."

He answered only with His smile.

When it is time for two souls to meet, nothing in creation can delay what eternity has already ordained.

She longed to run into His arms. But before her thought could become movement, Krishna had already knelt at her feet.

Startled, she stepped back.

The Lord of countless worlds had placed Himself at the feet of the one who ruled His heart.

Her joy overflowed into an enigmatic smile.

She bent to lift His face and lose herself in His eyes....the sight she had waited lifetimes to behold. But tears blurred her vision. She reached out to caress His cheeks, and suddenly another memory pierced her heart...the farewell gift she had sent after His marriage to Rukmini.

A thought, sharp as an arrow, rose within her.

"He no longer belongs to me. He belongs to the world... to His queens... to every heart that calls Him."

Her hand trembled and stopped midway.

No one could tell when the distance between them disappeared.

The next moment, they stood as though they had become one existence.

His arms encircled her waist with infinite tenderness. Every gentle touch awakened forgotten springs of love, and tears flowed freely from both their eyes. Neither wished to wipe them away.

Their hearts spoke where their lips remained silent.

"After ages, we have been granted another chance to create new memories."

Her eyes resembled rain-laden clouds.

Every touch of His hand wrote another verse upon her heart.

She wished she could gather every memory they had ever shared and weave them into a garland worthy of adorning His feet.

Hardly believing what she saw, she whispered,

"Is it true? My Krishna... standing in front me?"

As though speaking only to herself, she continued,

"You are the reason for my existence, Krishna. Without You I have no life. Without You I am only an illusion.

Why did You not tell me You were coming?

Had I known, I would have strewn tender blossoms along Your path. I would have lined Your way with moonbeams to soothe Your weary feet. I would have churned fresh butter with my own hands, just as I did in our childhood.

Tell me... is it truly You? Have You really come... for me? For Your Radha? To lose Yourself in her love once again?"

Krishna's eyes softened.

"Yes, Radha.

As I once promised, I have returned, not to be worshipped, but to search for Myself in your eyes, to lose Myself once again in your presence.

I came only to meet you.

That day I left Vrindavan, I abandoned every personal attachment. I walked away to free my parents, to uphold dharma, and to build a world where righteousness could flourish.

Do not bind Me again with those old ties.

I am tired, Radha... so very tired.

Let me rest my head in your lap for a little while.

Only your touch can quiet this restless heart. Only you can give peace to this weary lover."

Closing His eyes, He rested His head on her lap.

Her fingers gently wandered through His soft curls.

Every touch carried the tenderness of lifetimes.

A profound peace settled upon Him.

Then, as though acknowledging its true mistress, the peacock feather slipped from His crown and came to rest upon her lap.

Slowly He rose, drew her close, and wrapped His arms around her.

His embrace was warm, protective, and eternal.

Within those divine arms, Radha desired nothing more than to lose herself forever.

The world dissolved around them.

Time forgot to move.

Space forgot to exist.

There remained only two hearts remembering that they had always been one.

Their minds became still.

Their love became prayer.

Their silence became eternity.

Radha no longer knew where she ended and Krishna began.

This was the moment she had awaited through ages, the moment she had prayed for with every breath.

She silently thanked the Divine for granting her this eternal bliss.

The overflowing nectar of that bliss blossomed into a radiant smile upon her lips, while the universe stood witness to a love that neither time nor destiny had ever been able to separate.
