Chapter - 10

After a few minutes of drive, Sid stopped the car in front of a mall. Roli looked around with a confused look as she turned to Sid and asked "why we're here now?". 

Sid looked at roli for a while before replying "I got something to buy so.. let's go". 

And he got down and moved into the mall, followed by a silent roli. 

After wandering around for a while, Sid entered into a watch store and roli as usually followed him like a obedient kid. 

Sid started looking at ladies watch, which obviously made roli even more confused. 

"Are you going to buy ladies watch?" Roli couldn't help but open up her query with a blank face. 

Sid glared at her but soon turned to the different styles of watches kept before him. 

He's surely going to buy it. But for whom? Roli's mind was occupied by these thoughts. As she confirmed that Sid was buying a ladies watch, she felt bad for some reason. 

"Are you buying it for maa?" Roli was hoping for his answer to be 'yes'. But, unfortunately he nodded as 'no' as he added "have you ever seen maa wearing watches and all?". 

Of course Sujata never used any such stuff. Roli felt stupid of herself for asking such a question. 

"Then... For whom?" Roli continued to query as her heart began to race with the thought whether Sid had someone special in his life. 

"Can't you shut your mouth for a while?" Sid burted as he was obvious of what roli would be thinking in her mind at the moment. 

Roli, who was already in a messed up mind, lost her patience by now as she turned to go. But, soon a hand stopped her, holding her hand. Roli turned around and was stunned to see Sid placing a beautiful watch around her wrist. 

At the moment she didn't know how to react and what to say as she just kept gazing at Sid, who was now turned to make the payment. 

"It's for you" Sid's words brought roli out from her thoughts as she looked at him in surprise. 

"Me?" Roli couldn't believe as she asked. 

"Actually, when we go to college at morning or when we return to home at evening, you always make me to wait for long. I thought to give you watch so that you can at least have some time sense" Sid explained with a neutral expression. Whilst roli glared at him in anger but, Sid was least bothered about her glaring as he turned to go. As he walked past to her, roli's anger was now turned into a beautiful smile on her lips as she glanced at the watch wrapped around her wrist. 

As they stepped out of the store, Sid turned and asked to roli "do you want anything else?". 

Roli looked at him and shrugged her shoulders as she had nothing to buy. 

"Let's go then" Sid said and walked past while roli followed behind him. 

While they were walking, a group of boys were passing comments on girls around. When RoSid reached the place where those guys were standing, they all looked at roli. But, as Sid was walking a few steps ahead to roli, they thought roli was alone and whistled at her.

And it didn't went unhear by Sid as he stopped on his track. By now those guys started moving towards roli but, before they reach her, Sid approached roli as he wrapped his arm around her, protectively. 

Roli, who was still now in her dreamland with her eyes fixed at the watch on her hand, looked up and was shocked to see Sid so close to her and even his hand wrapped around her shoulder. 

"What?" Asked Sid to those guys, who by now stopped on their way as soon as they saw Sid. His voice contained a kind of threaten that they didn't dare to utter a word and disappeared from the place as soon as they could.  

At this moment roli understood what was happening around her and cursed herself for being so careless of her surroundings. But to her surprise, Sid didn't even say a word as he walked ahead by holding her hand in his. She smiled at him and held his hand with full rights as they both continued their walk. 

Afterwards sid took her to a restaurant. Roli was obviously confused at his weird behavior today. But when she asked about it, he simply found a reason of letting her to taste the delicious food at famous restaurant of delhi. After hearing to his reason, she didn't got much to think of anything as sid already made her to settle on the table at a corner. 

"So, what do you like to have?" Asked sid, as he sat opposite to her. 

"Haven't you said that there is a famous dish here? So, how would I know what is it?" Roli said with obvious expression.

At that time, a waiter came to them and placed a cake on the table with 'happy birthday' written on it. 

"Cake?" Roli was surprised as she looked at it.

"Thank you" sid said to the waiter while waiter nodded and left the place. 

"Happy birthday" Sid's words got hit to roli's mind as she looked at him in shock. 

It was her birthday! 

Roli hit her head as soon as she realized it. But, how did he know about her birthday? She wondered.

"How do you know about it?" Roli asked in surprised. 

Sid thought for a while before he reply her "woh... Last night after fighting with me, you left your phone in my room. At night 12 your dad called to wish you. But, as its already late so he said not to disturb you and asked me to celebrate it on his behalf".  

After listening to sid, roli suddenly felt upset as this was the first time her dad wasn't with her on her birthday. 

"Will you cut the cake?" Sid asked to divert her mind as he notice her sad face. 

"But, why you didn't tell me about all these when you returned my phone today morning?" Roli seemed to not satisfied with his answer.

"Uncle said to keep it as a surprise" sid replied with a sigh. 

"Cake" reminded sid to escape from her question bank. 

Roli smiled at him and cut the cake. She took a piece and kept near his mouth. Sid looked at her with neutral expression. Roli pouted as he didn't open his mouth. Sid smiled and opened his mouth. Afterwards sid forwarded his hand near roli with a cake piece while roli smiled as she tried hard to control the dancing butterflies in her stomach. But it didn't last long as sid applied the cake on her nose, instead. Roli glared at him angrily whilst sid laughed at her and soon she too joined him. 

Soon they completed eating and left the restaurant. By the time they reach home, it was already night. They both laid down on their respective beds, exhaustedly. 

At the time roli's mind was completely taken over by sid's thoughts, her phone rang. She swiftly got up and answered the call.  

"Hello papa" roli literally jumped with joy as she got to talk to her dad after so long. 

"Thank god you aren't angry. I was so scared to call you now" jamanlal let out a sigh of relief.

"Why would i be angry on you?" Roli got confused.

"Because today is your birthday and i've not got time to wish you" said jamanlal sadly.

"But you've told siddhant to celebrate it. So, im not much angry on you. But, im not very happy without you on my special day. This is not at all fair, papa" roli complained like a kid. 

"But i never told to siddhant any such thing. In fact, i didn't even get a chance to talk to anyone since two days. Or else i would have definitely planned a good surprise for you. But, i missed it. I'm sorry, beta" apologized jamanlal.

Roli was shocked. Her dad didn't say to sid to celebrate her birthday then why he lied to her. 

"Ok, papa, i'll talk to you later" roli said and hung up the call. She then looked at the watch on her wrist. 

On the other hand, sid was tossing on bed. He was confused. Confused of his own behaviour. Whatever happened today was not normal for him. He was trying to make a proper excuse for himself for whatever he had done. 

Giving gift to roli and celebrating her birthday. Why he had to do that? He had never done any such for anyone till now in his entire life. Then why such sudden change in him? What roli meant to him? 

Sid was trying to find a proper reason for all his changes. But, at the end, he couldn't get any answer. At the time roli entered his room. He stood up as he tried to look normal. 

"Water bottle" it was the only reason that roli could find at that time to enter into Sid's room. 

Sid, without saying any word, took his hand out to take it but, roli took her hand back and stared at him. 

"How did you know about my birthday?" Asked roli, raising her eyebrow. 

"I think we've talked about this already" sid replied neutrally. 

"But, papa just called now and said that he didn't talk to you" roli's words almost made sid to froze. 

Sid looked away and tried to avoid her gaze on him. He was stuck in such a way that he wasn't getting any words out of his mouth. 

Soon he was even more shocked as he felt roli on his chest with her arms wrapped around his waist tightly. 

"Thank you" roli said as she closed her eyes peacefully in his embrace. 

Sid didn't return her hug nor did he moved her away. He just stood still and let her to hug him. 

After few moments, roli got up from Sid's chest and left the room with a satisfying smile. She didn't know how sid knew about her birthday and why he celebrated it. But, it was indeed a special birthday for her. Very special! 

As for sid, he was the one, who submitted roli's documents in college. So, he saw her date of birth at that time, which got fixed in his mind. 

But, still what was the need to make it special for her? He might not got any reason now but, he would be definitely going to find an answer for his confused feelings, sooner or later.
