The Night of Epic Importance

As evening descended, Radha was seized by an inexplicable premonition that something extraordinary was about to unfold. A strange blend of nervousness and ecstasy overwhelmed her heart. Drawn by an unseen force, she walked towards her favourite nook on the banks of the Yamuna, the place where she often lost herself in dreams and silent contemplation.

The Tamala trees along the riverbank swayed gently in the cool breeze. Every flowering shrub and every tender bush stood in full bloom, as though nature itself had adorned the earth for an auspicious occasion. It seemed that every leaf, every branch, and every blossom longed to reveal a secret to her.

The nearby bamboo grove began to sing the melodious strains of the evening raga, Abhogi. The bushes swayed gracefully, as though dancing to its enchanting rhythm. The western sky glowed with a celestial radiance, painted in hues of gold, crimson, and violet, while the horizon shimmered like a divine canvas. It was as if heaven itself was announcing the arrival of an unexpected guest upon the longing earth.

A gentle tremor passed through Radha's heart. An indescribable eagerness stirred within her.

Who is he... Who is he?

"Why is this happening today... all of a sudden?"

At that very moment, a brilliant streak of lightning flashed before her eyes. Dark clouds gathered across the sky, threatening rain at any instant. Looking upward with a trembling heart, she saw the lightning smile playfully, as though greeting her.

A message... Someone is coming for me... for this simple cowherd maiden.

Is it possible to receive a divine light? Will that radiant brilliance enter my heart? Will these mortal eyes behold it? Will these trembling hands ever be worthy of embracing such grace?

The cool breeze whispered softly into her ears, caressing her hair like the tender touch of a longing lover. Darkness slowly spread its mantle over the earth.

And then it seemed that all of nature had found a single voice.

"He is coming... He is coming! Look... there He is, crossing galaxies, transcending every boundary, journeying towards you—to teach mankind the true meaning of love, and to fill the entire universe with its eternal light."

Radha stood bewildered. Unable to comprehend the strange emotions surging within her, she finally decided to return home as the night deepened.

As she walked along the muddy village path, she glanced into the house of her kinsman, Nanda. Yashoda was in labour. Elderly women moved hurriedly around her.

"Not tonight," one of them said reassuringly. "Not so soon. The child will be born before dawn. The darkest hour of the night shall herald his arrival."

Hearing those words, Radha hastened home. Her mother-in-law and her husband would surely be waiting anxiously for her return.

Meanwhile, the slender crescent of the waning moon slowly emerged from behind the clouds, awakening from its slumber to bathe the world in its cool, silvery light. The dark clouds lingered still, as though watching the moon with quiet envy.

The universe held its breath.

A night of epic significance had begun.
