Chapter 56
"The number you're trying is currently busy. Please try again later" Roli closed her eyes with disappointment as she heard the same message for the nth time since three days.
Since the time Sid left from the marriage hall three days ago, Roli had been trying to talk to him but to no avail. She even went to Bhardwaj house and his office but she could not meet him. It seemed as if he was completely ignoring her. But, was that the truth? Was he really ignoring her? Only he had the answers.
Leaning back on to the couch, Sid stared at the empty space before him. That's how he felt himself without Roli, empty! But, he was scared to go back to her. Scared of losing her, he felt helpless.
"Siddhant" Sujata entered the room, breaking the chain of his thoughts. "What's wrong with you now?".
Sid glanced at her but didn't respond. In fact, he didn't know how to explain why he had to take such a decision because no one could understand him. They all were thinking that he hurt Roli by breaking their alliance and blaming him. But, what they didn't know was he was equally hurt by his own behaviour.
"Why you're not answering Roli's calls? Do you know how hurt she is? Why are you behaving like this suddenly?" Sujata shot an array of questions, angrily.
"Maa, I don't want to talk about anything now" Sid calmly replied as he got up and went near the window.
"I don't know what to do with you" Sujata sighed helplessly. She was sure her son cared for Roli no matter how much he would fight with her. But, the sudden turn of events clearly displeased her. Resigning her attempts to talk to him, she quietly left, leaving him alone.
Looking up at the dark sky, Sid stared at the moon, which almost got shaded by dark clouds, just like his life without Roli. It had been only three days without seeing or talking to her but it felt like an eternal hell for both of them.
At the moment, his phone started ringing again. Sid didn't move from his place as he could guess who was the caller. It continued to ring for few moments before silence filled in the room. Sid walked back to the couch where his phone was there and glanced at it with a calm expression which soon turned into a frown.
"I'm at public park and I'm not gonna leave this place until you come" Sid read the message he just received from Roli. He then looked at the time to find out it was already past 11. He was angered to know that Roli was out at this late hour of night.
Throwing away everything else from his mind, he dialled her number. However, her response was the same as his when she called him. Unanswered! Without wasting anymore time, he picked up his car keys and prepared to leave as he kept trying her number.
~×~×~
Roli held her phone firmly as she stared at the incoming call. Though her heart was pushing her to answer it, she adamantly denied to listen to her heart.
She knew what she was doing right now would make him worried a lot. But, after trying all the alternatives of talking to him, she was left with no other options than forcing him. And she was sure he would definitely come to her now.
Making her mind strong, Roli didn't answer Sid's calls as she looked away from her phone. She was a little scared watching around as the place was dark with no one around. No matter how scared she was with darkness, she still sat on the bench while praying for Sid to come soon.
The place was near to Bharadwaj house so it didn't take much time for Sid to reach. Stopping the car, he rushed in search of Roli as he found her car parked at entrance. His tensed muscles finally got relaxed after his eyes spotted her.
Roli casually looked ahead and found Sid marching towards her. Her lips curled up and formed in to a perfect smile as she got up, ran over to him and stood before him.
"I knew you would come" Roli spoke, enthusiastically as her eyes got moist with the overwhelming emotions. While he glared at her.
"Go to home" Sid only uttered these words while gritting his teeth. He was super angry with her idea of coming out of the house at this untimely hour. Having said that, he turned around to leave.
"I'm not going anywhere" Roli held on to his hand as if she wouldn't want to let him go. Sid stood rooted but didn't turn to her side.
"Why are you ignoring me like this?" She tried to control the urge of bursting in to tears but failed. He closed his eyes as he felt the pain in her voice.
Moving a little closer, Roli back hugged Sid, wrapping her hands around his waist and queried "how can you think that I will be safe without you?".
Sid inhaled a deep breath before letting out a sigh. He then held her hands, turned to her and shot her a hot glare with the question "why did come here at this time?".
"Why didn't you answer my calls?" Roli replied with a question.
"Answer my question first" Sid demanded with stern face.
"That's what I'm saying, you didn't answer my calls so I had to do something to make you come to me" Roli answered, justifying her idea.
"Is this a way to do that? By coming out of the house alone at this late night? Can you be anymore stupid?" Sid was agitated at her idea.
"What else I could have done? I even went to your office but you were not there and not responding to my calls" Roli replied.
"So you will wander around like this?" Sid yelled, losing his cool. He was angry that she wasn't bothering about her own safety.
"If you want to scold me then do it. I can endure your scoldings but not your ignorance" Roli mumbled with her head hanging down.
"It's a waste of time talking to you" Sid resigned with a sigh. He legitly wanted to give her a good lecture for what she just did but, he couldn't really do it when he realized why she had done so.
"Let's go now" taking her hand in his, he didn't give her a chance to retort as he started walking towards his car.
"I'm not leaving this place until I get what I want" Roli didn't move and stood adamantly. Sid stopped on his track and turned to her.
"What do you want now?" Sid stared at her, suppressing his fury.
"Don't you know what I want?" Roli looked at him, holding her tears back.
"Roli, whatever I'm doing its for your own safety. Why can't you understand it?" Sid tried not to show any emotions and maintained his calm face.
"Do you know where my safety is?" Roli spoke in hoarse voice as a tear escaped her eyes. Sid watched her calmly while she fell on his chest, snuggling in to his embrace and continued "This is it. I can only feel safe when you're with me".
Sid's heart throbbed at her words as he stood motionless. He silently wished in his heart for her words to be true. He wished her to be the safest with him but, unfortunately the reality was bitter.
"I don't mind if you scold me or tease me. I will not even ask you to confess your feelings for me though I would love to hear it from you. And more specifically, I don't care about those attacks. Even if they want to kill me, I would wish to die being yours" Roli expressed her heart out, making his heart cry in silence.
"Can you not talk no nonsense?" Sid pulled her away and glared at her. How could she think that he would let anyone harm her?
"I'm not gonna say anything else. But, if you still want to leave me then please don't forget to attend my funeral" Roli stated as her final decision, looking in to his eyes and walked away, leaving him stunned with her statement.
It took a couple of seconds for Sid to realize that Roli had walked away. He turned around to find her getting in to her car and started driving. Glaring at her, he too rushed to his car and followed her closely. Only after ensuring that she had reached home safely did he return to his home.
Reaching home, they both couldn't fall asleep as their minds filled with the thoughts of the other. The following day, Roli received a call from Sid at morning.
"Hello!" Roli answered excitedly.
"Come to Sunshine resort at evening" Sid spoke from the other end.
"Why?" Roli queried, curiously.
"Just come. I'm sending the address to you" Sid replied calmly and hung up the call.
Roli frowned at his response as she stared at her phone screen. Soon she received a text message from Sid which has the address of the place that he had told her to come.
Roli grew curious by each passing minute as she waited till the evening impatiently. When time clicked, she immediately got ready and left to the address that Sid had shared.
