Chapter 55
"What happened?" Sid urged while Sameer watched him calmly, unable to process what he just witnessed.
"Again attack on roli" Sameer replied while his mind wandered else where.
"But, no one was here and nothing happened to me" Roli spoke, unaware of the things.
"She didn't get the chance to do anything and ran off as soon as she saw me here" Sameer informed.
"Who is she? Did you see her?" Sid inquired, curiously. Sameer was about to say but got interrupted.
"What are you all doing here?" Three of them turned to find Ritika. "Arun is looking for you guys".
"Sameer, did you see who that person is?" Sid repeated as his mind was completely occupied by continuous attacks on Roli.
"What's happening?" Ritika could not get what they were talking about.
"Someone tried to attack roli" Sid answered while Ritika was shocked.
"What? Who?" Ritika looked stunned. She turned to Roli and asked with concern "are you alright?".
"Will you stop your acting?" Sameer lashed out at Ritika, making them all surprised.
"What do you mean?" Ritika frowned at sameer.
Shooting a glare at Ritika, Sameer turned to Sid as he spoke "you want to know who that person trying to attack Roli, right? She is that person".
Roli and Sid stood in shock as Sameer pointed at Ritika, who was shocked as well.
"What are you saying?" Sid couldn't believe what he just heard.
"I'm saying the truth. I saw her trying to attack roli with knife. But, before I could react, she ran away from here" Sameer explained.
"I tried to attack Roli? Seriously?" Ritika stared at sameer for accusing her.
"Sameer, you might have misunderstood" Sid said as he believed Ritika could not do such thing.
"I wish I did. But, I saw her here with my own eyes" Sameer stated with confidence.
"Did you see the person?" Sid looked at Roli and asked. For which her answer was negative.
"Ritika was standing at her back and disappeared before she could see" Sameer answered on Roli's behalf.
"What's wrong with you, Sameer? I don't understand why are you blaming me for this" Ritika said, hopelessly.
"Sameer, I can understand your concern for Roli. But, trust me, Ritika can't do this. There must be some misunderstanding and I will not leave the person who is doing all these" Sid voiced his views. While Roli stood in silence, not knowing what to say.
"There is no misunderstanding, sid. I saw Ritika in all my senses. My eyes can't betray me" Sameer was still stick to his point.
"What's wrong with you? Why would I even try to attack Roli?" Ritika queried, unable to take in the accusations.
"May be because of Sid" Sameer uttered, making the others stunned.
"What are you trying to say?" Ritika mumbled in shock.
"I'm saying that you once loved Sid or may be still doing but sid loves roli. Do you need any more reason to harm roli" Sameer's words shocked the others.
"Enough, Sameer!" Sid roared, curling up his fist to control himself from going to beat up Sameer. While others jerked at his sudden outburst.
"You are crossing your limits" Sid muttered, clenching his jawline. Sameer had brought up the topic that sid would never want to reminded of, which triggered his anger now.
"Then let me cross it. If I know someone is trying to harm my friend, I will not sit quiet" Sameer replied, looking straight at Sid.
"And I will not sit quiet if someone accuses my friend for nothing" Sid replied with a glare.
"please, stop arguing you both" Roli was helpless, standing in between both of them.
With burning rage in his eyes, Sid stormed out of the place without looking back while silence filled the place.
"Thank you so much for the accusation" Ritika stared at Sameer with teary eyes before leaving.
Roli and Sameer stood in silence as the happy mood of the celebrations a while ago took a drastic turn, leaving them with heavy hearts.
"Trust me Roli, it was Ritika" Sameer spoke up, breaking the silence.
"I trust you but..." Roli was caught in a situation where she could not think who was right and who was wrong. She knew Sameer could not lie about such a thing. But, as far as she knew, Ritika could not harm anyone, let alone her.
"I know.. just like sid, you too can't believe it's Ritika. And tell you what, even I couldn't have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes" Sameer said.
"You know her for only a few days and I know her since few months. Even we can't believe she would harm me then she is Sid's friend since years so how can he believe" Roli said as the matter of fact.
Sameer did not respond and fell silent.
~×~
Leaving the place, Sid did not went inside the hall. Instead he aimlessly walked away and stopped in a dark corner near a tree at the other side of the garden.
Roli reached him after searching for him all over the hall. Walking near him, she could see his red shaded face and realized he was so angry. Hesitantly, she placed her hand on his shoulder.
"Leave me alone!" Sid mutter, sternly, without turning to look at her.
"I can't" roli replied in a low voice, scared of his anger.
"I said leave me alone" Sid blurted out, shoving off her hand, making her jerk.
"I-I know.. Sameer should not have said that.. I'm sorry on his behalf" Roli apologized.
"Please, don't be mad like this" she literally begged with moist eyes.
"Actually, I should be sorry" Sid calmed down a bit, watching her tears and spoke calmly.
"Sameer was right. It's all because of me" Roli looked at sid with confusion as he said.
"It might not be Ritika who tried to harm you. But, whoever it is, I'm the reason of that person trying to harm you" Sid said with a calm face. While Roli watched him with a frown as she could not understand what he was exactly trying to say.
"I'm already living every second with the guilt for what all ritika had to go through because of me. I can't let it repeat with you now" Sid gulped down a lump stuck in his throat as he opened up about his guilty feeling for the first time.
Though it had been three years since that incident happened with Ritika, Sid could not get over it and would always feel guilty whenever he reminded it. That's the reason he distanced himself from other girls after that incident as he did not want anyone to suffer because of him.
However, all of his restrictions fell apart when Roli entered his life. He tried his best to control his heart, which experienced a pleasant feeling like never before. He even behaved rudely with her initially, showed himself as arrogant. But, nothing could stop him from falling for her.
Sid was in guilt for whatever happened to Ritika. But, if anything like that happens to Roli, he could not even survive. For Roli was more than his life.
"That's not your fault" Roli tried to console him. Perhaps, the first time she was seeing him being emotionally broken and she could not endure it.
"It is my fault. And that person said it right. It's better for you to leave me before it's too late" Sid replied, fighting back with the tears forming in his eyes.
"Don't say that. I'm not leaving you and will never do" tears rolled down her eyes as Roli stated with determination.
"Then let me leave" Sid uttered, making her froze.
"No, please.." Roli shook her head as Sid took backward steps. And then without bothering about anything else, Sid went to parking area and drove his car away.
Roli, though ran after him, could not reach him. Standing at parking area, she could only watch his car disappearing in to the distance, increasing the distance between them.
Sid drove his car without knowing his destination. After reaching a far away place, he stopped his car at roadside. He could not continue driving as his eyes were flooded with tears, making his vision blur. Adamantly, he held those tears within and didn't let them escape his eyes.
"I know it will hurt you, roli. But, it's better than risking your life" sid whispered to loneliness while the weight over his chest increased.
