Summary:
They did not know how long they lay there, holding onto each other, terrified to let go. He smelled of blood, while she smelled of Shyam's stink, Shyam's release, Shyam's sweat. But they couldn't care less. All they knew that when they let go, everything would be different. They were doing what they had left incomplete at the hospital, so many months ago. They were embracing. They were being there for each other. And so they held on for another century, another second. She did not remember how they had ended up back at the Raizada house. Arnav was careful to not wake her from her deep slumber as he covered her with his jacket in his car, wiping away the blood in between her legs with a clean, soft cloth he always kept with him. She did not remember how she had snuggled closer into his chest, burying her face in his neck to smell him, to smell all of him. Because even in her dreams, she needed him.
